It's cool to see a thread like this, however you make yourself a target for theft. There have been people within the community that have had property stolen from them do to the fact the showed things off publicly. Use caution when posting "real steel" items in an open forum. ie Blur serial numbers

lots of our guys blurr serials... its more of a privacy issue than a theft reducer.

if someone tracks you down and steels your stuff its not because they saw your serial numbers... its just because they know you got it and where you live.

you can find anyone on the webs real location if you really want to, IP locator's are available and easy to use.. so is google maps..... especially in a small circle of people like websites this size (less than 100,000).

its even easier if you have class 3 toys or beltfeds like we do.

so we dont bother to hide anything we show & we dont show anything we are worried about. Alarm systems, dogs, lights & preparation are all you can do.

now home visits are a different story. i allow very few people to my "shop" or home.

here is my 50BMG M3AC it has a ACME crankfire on it and yes that "baby gun" in the back ground is a 1919a4 set up in 7.62 nato.

built them both right there in the garage.

As a guy who owns class 3 items, I have no problem posting pictures of my stuff on hobby sites. Course, I ensure serials can't be seen on any of my rifles or pistols, but the serial number is more for privacy than anything else as stated.

sorry, no lecture was intended, its just part of my job in the gun community to promote "being aware, not scared" (which is the main tool the anti gunners use)

its just one of those "myths" that peoples guns are stolen by the serial numbers being shown.

they are stolen because someone knew they had it(location) & could get to them (availability). you dont need serials for that. only transportation.

exploited serial numbers? you mean i take your number and put it on one of "my guns" commit a crime and "you" get blamed for it? sure it could happen. or do you mean someone claiming that "your gun" is theirs because they know the numbers.

id absolutely love to hear more on this and could use it as great discussion & info on our board if you want to share your experience in this area.

built this a few years ago, its a DP28. shoots 54r and is one of the loudest guns (for being a standard cartridge) ive ever seen.



then for the beltfed fans:
