Military Color pantone (color code)

For all the geardos out there {looking toward Mr. Kong} , do you have any access to the military color pantone on the market?

I looked online and did not find anything official regarding the Coyote brown pantone, which is the one I need the most.

So I guess having some sort of a color chart would help for those trying to paint guns or equipment with more accuracy.

Here is a link to the Federal Color Specifications:

But, I didn't see CB listed?

Blade, from all the research I did (in the last 5 minutes) it looks like an 'official' pantone was never released for coyote brown, and also it seem the precise "coyote" color in the USMC DESPAT uniforms is actually patented by Ralph Lauren, so finding a good matte paint in the color may be nigh on impossible, and also explains why so many companies have their variation on coyote.

Whenever I've painted something CB either for myself or someone else (urban) I've always used Averoe Field Drab (link below.) It looks the part and is a good matte finish, but doesn't seem to bond quite as well as Krylons do. If you want to make it more permanent I would suggest a good priming (should go without being said) and multiple layers of a matte clear coat to prevent wear as well. However if you're looking for a "battle hardened" worn look just skip all that **** and paint.

Phil, I found the same info you did with the exact same results. What i actually want to do is turning my way too-well polished new opscore helmet into a battle helmet. The first version were textured but this one is as shiny as a freakin egg shell.

Thanks for the link, time to start testing...and painting.

Colorcode: Coyote: 498. If you are buying any fabric you want solution dyed anti IR material. This is the official USMC color.

Yeah, not if its real. You would instantly compromise any real protection it would offer.

D-boy, where did you get that number? not saying it is innacurate, just surprised you got access to it

Phil, I got the Ops-core Sport helmet. It was the best compromise between cost and effectiveness. It is perfect for those looking for comfort and wants to carry a christmas tree on their head. Sorry, no pics yet.

Its legit, don't worry. I worked for a parent corporation to many defense contractors. Not to mention I had my rig custom made in that particular color, all sourced from the correct levels.

The issue with gear color is that it all depends on the day and from what stock the piece was created. I've seen so much EI CB pieces with different shades, granted time exposed to the elements has some play. So you really cannot go wrong with finding a general color, such as what Phil linked.

This in mind, if you buy something from a reputable source with the code coyote 498, you will be sure you are in the ball park of the right shade. Not all CB was created equal.

Just an idea, do you think it would be helpful if someone (or a group of people) compiled a list of Color Pantone/codes for most camo based colors? Or would it be too time consuming/updated constantly to be useful?
This is coming from in the past wanting to know what color paints/dye to get to achieve a certain pattern but coming up with too many different versions of the same color.
