Real Steel Kel Tec SU-16c
I've googled this gun extensively and found pretty positive reviews. It seems to have numerous upgrade options, including being able to basically make it an AR-15 but I like the standard configuration too. Anybody on here have any experience with this bad boy? What are your thoughts on it?

Nutnfancy on Youtube had a nice review on one. I like the fact the gun takes AR mags.
But also liked their RFB... ![]()

His review is the single reason that I'm very interested. I can't seem to find one locally to get a feel for it. That gun is sweet. I'll bet the price tag is nice too.

I'd recommend against any AR style pistol, they're all of the bad of a pistol, i.e - crappy accuracy, limited range, etc, with none of the good - compact size, light weight, low recoil, etc.
If you're going to buy a weapon chambered for an intermediate power rifle cartridge, it should be shoulder fired. I guess that could be considered an opinion, but it's an opinion formed by a good deal of experience. Kel-Tec seems to have a pretty good reputation. I have only fired the Sub-2000 and a couple of their handguns. They weren't the best I've ever fired, but were decent guns overall. I have only seen SU-16s for sale at gun shows, I don't know of any shops in the Cincinnati area that carry them. You could always ask local shops if they can special order them though.

I've heard only good things about the SU-16 family... fun rifle to toy with and work on. Lots of options. I haven't had a chance to handle one myself, but a few guys at either steyrclub or silencertalk have gone on about them.
And the RFB... I want.

I think that it does look fun to tinker with. Kind of like an airsoft rifle, there is always something else to upgrade. I hope to find one so I can feel the weight and just look it over. Might be a good thing to stash away some cash for.

I fired the SU-16, and it is a great rifle. Very light and very accurate.
I only had a couple of small complaints. For starters, I did not like the bipod deploying hand guards. I thought they were a little gimmicky and had a little too much flex in them when they are folded. My other one is a total personal preference, but I just prefer rifles with pistol grips. Both of those are small complaints though. I like the fact that the SU-16 takes AR mags, can have a rail system installed, can have either a pistol grip/ collapsing stock or standard folding stock, has a top rail for optics, is super light weight, and Kel-Tec as a company has great customer service. My negatives are mostly personal preference as well. I like it. It has been quite some time since I have fired it, and it was not actually mine, but a close friends. But I would give it a cautious recommendation.

Good deal. Glad to hear you liked it and your complaints are noted. The first upgrade I do would be to get rid of that hand guard. I like the price at around $500. Appreciate the feedback.

I just messed around with one at a local pawn shop. I would like to shoot one sometime to see how they are.

The PLR-16 is what we had. It was one of the loudest guns we had ever shot. In fact, me and dad joked that if we had to use it in home defense. The shot would be enough to do the job. But we loved ours, it was very very fun to shoot.

Just to close this thing out, not that anyone cares. I found an SU-16c in athens. From the moment I handled it, I knew it wasn't for me. It felt flimsy and cheap. Honestly, my AEG's are sturdier than that thing. So I picked up my second choice, a Ruger mini-14 Ranch Rifle with pistol grip and folding, collapsible stock. I have to say it was a great decision and I'm very happy with the rifle. Shoots great and has 35 years of history behind it. Not to mention I'm a big Ruger fan. So my quick thoughts on the Kel-Tec, it's a hunk of plastic that would probably break if dropped.

I've also been eying kel-tec weapons. Just was never really sure of the dependability.

The "plasticky" feel is exactly what I said about the Su-16. Sure it only weighed 5.1 lbs. or something but I can't imagine it being reliable long term. The mini-14 was heavier at 7.3lbs or so but it seems to be a gun you keep for life if taken care of properly. I like the way they are going with their designs but they have a long way to go before I lay down my cash.

I'm holding out for the KSG. Hopefully they are more solid than they are sounding like they may be..
Hopefully they will be as awesome as they seem to be..
