Welcome to Airsoft Ohio. Make sure you read the forum rules and make sure to abide by them. For future reference opinion like posts are not liked on here as it can start an arguement.
--Gas guns are just as good as electric. Its your decision on what you want. We can't choose for you. Gas guns will not work/or work as well as electrics in the cold. If you plan to airsoft in the fall/winter getting a gas type as your only gun would most likely not be the best idea. Again Welcome to AO and hopefully I'll see you out there on the fields. Seeing where fields are you can see under the search bar and where all are located.

Gas:
some have blow back
fps lowers throughout mag
doesn't work in cold weather
normally low rof

Electric:
some have blowback
fps lowers throught day from battery
does work but is not its best in cold weather
differing rof
Depending on what gun of the two types you want, you can research about it to find more specific info on it.

LIke FH said.. read the rules.... opinion threads are not allowed...
you may want to use the search feature to find related posts.. showing the pros and cons of each weapon..
granted on cold days.. batteries will suffer and not perform as well as on a warm day.
and gas is generally used in its compressed form. and being cold, expands gas. causing it to be no where near compressed, this will cause you to get less power / less shots per charge of gas. It may also cause the seals and the mags to change size .. eventho ever so slightly, it can be just enough to keep your mag from making a proper seal and all the gas will leak out..

This is something to consider when purchasing a gun going into the cold months.

welcome, and again.. check out the search feature, and scan thru the older posts that have lots of great info about just about any type of gun desired.

and just to add on to what FH said..
elec will not cause a lower fps due to battery weakness.. cold may effect fps.. but a as the day goes on.. batteries die, and you may loose ROF (rate of fire) not so much FPS, as that is usually an air seal issue, not so much a how fast the piston is pulled back.. they cycle forward the same speed with a full or half dead battery.. that is from the spring installed..

So the only good choice of a gun is a JG, and only in those models? Why do you keep spewing this crap, not only is JG a low-to-mid grade company, there are a ton of different weapons that he may prefer.

Get whatever you like and what ever feels good. There are a good number of stores in our area so you should be able to try a few weapons to get the feel for what model and company you like. If you can't make it to a store, then maybe try to just come to an event or two as a spectator (I think this is allowed, any event organizers correct me if I'm wrong) and I am sure some people will let you take a few shots with their guns.

Anyway, enjoy your stay here.

Yes, go to a store or even an open play event to see and maybe feel the different types of guns. For instance do you want all metal? A CQB or full length rifle? There is a lot more to getting a gun than just JG- gun X. Although I did have a JG M4 that was a nice starter gun. There is a lot to think about, if you dont know search the forum because it has probably be asked before. If it hasnt then ask. Good luck, happy posting and welcome to the sight.

And this is why we don't allow "What gun should I get?" threads.

Do yourself a favor and don't buy JG. Spend a little extra and get an Echo 1. I don't even sell JG at my store and I bet we do 10 JG repairs for every Echo 1. JG may have a few guns that people haven't had issues with, but it's rather hit and miss. With Echo 1, it's pretty unusual to have problems right out of the box.

The biggest issue with getting started is to not settle for the cheapest gun if you can help it. If you've got the budget to get a nicer gun, like an SRC, ICS, Classic Army, KWA, VFC or whatever, then don't go with a JG or Echo 1 just because it's cheap. Look for quality and reliability, and not just price. It is still true in airsoft: You get what you pay for.

Darkstar out.

my echo 1 went bad. my wires got fried and my hop up messed up. so i would go w/ a starter for classic army, a select few guns from echo 1 and maybe even tokyo marui. make sure you do the research. make the fps legal and safe, good accuracy, descent price, full metal and good reviews.

OK, I was going to stay out of this. But after looking at all the purchases I have made I feel that I can share a bit and not call it an opinion, but rather a few facts. So I am not looking to debate.

I started this game by looking at what I thought would be these amazing guns from Ebay. They were, " Full size replicas" and for a low price of $20.00! I bought two and quickly found out that I had been fooled. So my next purchase wasnt going to be that way. I went back to ebay and bought what was explained as a Tokyo Marui AK47! How could I go wrong with a name brand? It comes to me in a box labeled Both Elephant. It shot better than those little spring powered guns I had bought and looked nice. About this time I had found this Airsoft store called Airsoft Arms in Milford. So off to the store with my shiney new BE AK for gear and upgrades I go! I was told that I had yet again been fooled and it was a cheap POS.

I left Airsoft Arms that day with my shiney new Echo1 AEG's. The Stag Arms M4 and the Vector Arms AK47. Over the period on the next several months I bought AEG after AEG. I bought online, instore and from other players. I went crazy because I was looking for that perfect AEG. I wanted those really awesome guns the senior players had, so I started upgrading. I have spent thousands on buying and upgrading all of these AEG's. I gave up, stopped buying upgrade parts and went straight to the Systema PTW M4.

Morale of my long winded story? There are several "nice" AEG brands out there. Some are lower end and won't cost you a lot to get into the sport. Then there are others that break the bank. But none of that matters. It doesnt matter what gun you buy because that is only a part of what the "sport" of airsoft is about.

The Sport of Airsoft is about many things. For me its brotherhood, exercise, tactics, and having fun. Others have different reasons why they play, but your question needs to be answered since your new to airsoft.

Come out to a game. Go to an Open play and get to meet the wonderful men and wemon of Airsoft Ohio. Then start making your choices based on what you find there. Just reading about it doesnt do it any justice

GIFTS, some of those "people" you are talking about happen to be moderators and very well respected people on this site. Being the new kid on the block, as you are, I'd suggest learning your place quick. You have to realize that you are not the first person, nor the hundreth, nor the thousandth person that has asked the same questions you've asked. As you can imagine it gets tiring after awhile. So, long story short, mind your head boy - Or you just may lose it!

I can tell you that it is not an opinion, it is a fact, that anyone who says that JG's are the only ways to go, and that you need to stay away from anything that is not a G36, M4, or AK47, has no idea what they are talking about.

Yeah, there are a lot of choices, but there are a few really easy ways to narrow them down.

Look at your price range, that takes away a lot of things there, if you can't spend 300+ on a gun, you are looking at anything from TM quality down. Then you can decide what specific model you want (ex. M4, M16, L85, ect.). Look for a few guns online in the price range you can afford and read reviews. Like I said before, you can test out guns at shops and at fields.

Saying that there are a lot of guns and it is too hard is an excuse and tells everyone here that instead of taking the initiative and looking for things yourself, you want to come here, take up bandwidth, completely disregard rules, and expect others to do it for you, when we don't even have any idea what kind of thing you're into.
