Anyone want to join airsoft team, RT Indiana?

I want to pull an airsoft team together based off of US Special Forces in Vietnam known as SOG. I've been reading up on a lot of their stories and most of it is unbelievable. Team name would be RT Indiana (Recon Team Indiana), which was a real SOG team during the Vietnam war. The purpose of the team would to reenact a SOG team as much as possible. That is by, using weapons like, CAR-15's, AK's, M16A1's, 1911's, Grease Guns, MP40's, Swedish K's (If they have that airsoft gun), Hush Puppie's (If they have those too), M79's, M60's, and guns like that. We'd stick to basic NAM gear like bandoleers an such, and stick with Tiger Stripe as our camouflage. It would be a small team, since recon teams weren't that big in SOG. I know most people don't want to do Vietnam ALL the time, so after we do NAM style for a while, we would do Modern Day or whatever else you want, because I have my share of Modern Day gear too. I believe I already have 1 or 2 people wanting to join, so if you are interested and live in the Ohio-Indiana area contact me by E-mail, MSN, or AIM. E-mail is S4paintballer@aol.com same with AIM, and MSN is S4paintballer@hotmail.com. I am currently converting one of my M4's into a CAR-15.

There are several VN-era airsoft team and reanactors. Two of the largest that come to mind are actually non-American - Russian and Canadian teams.

I wish to point you toward the Fox Military brand as they manufacture several vintage-style items such as mag pouches, belts, suspender, bandoleers, and holsters. I also suggest that you look into some of the other US Vietnam-era Reinactment groups. There is a large Texas-based one and several east and west coast groups.

I really regret that I cannot as of yet provide you with better contact info, but I would do a search of the forums because I do recall posting somthing about one of the teams. There is definitely information on Arnie's Airsoft regarding the Canadian and Russian teams and both sites have links to other similiar groups from all over the world.

Finally, You really have lucked out now that G&G is producing more VN-era conversion kits. Their M16 and M16A1 bodies and barrel kits are becoming quite popular. While the original Marui CAR-15 maybe be somewhat dificult to find, the availability of the later XM variants (177, 655, etc) will likely be of even more help.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Thanks for the information, but I was thinking about starting a team in the local area, just a small team. Also, haha it's not G&G it's G&P that has all the Vietnam-era conversion kits, and that's exactly what I planned on doing. Currently I have two M4's, one of which I'm going to convert into a CAR-15 using the G&P M16A1VN Metal Body, and the G&P XM Fore-grip conversion kit. I've never heard of Fox, is it good quality gear? I recently went to the Army Surplus store looking for woodland tiger stripe camouflage, but all they had was this new style tiger stripe. I asked the guy if they had Vietnam-era Tiger Stripe but he said no, it's rare and it's expensive. Would you happen to know if Fox has the same Tiger Stripe pattern they used during the Vietnam War?

try www.airsoftarms.com and http://www.hdesert.com. they both have VN style tiger stripe camo. it may not be authentic, but its probably as close as you will find.

It's Jungle tiger, not woodland. woodland is lighter, jungle is pretty dark.

VN

useful fact: US special forces mainly operated in teams of two with a squad of VN troops (trained by US special forces). so get a friend, then recruit a bunch of south vietnamese for assistance. don't forget to invest in some green berets with company flash above the left eye.

It was often more or less than a sqaud of VNs. They also can be Chinese, or Montagnards... so that gives you more options on who to recruit.

Green berets just about never wear their berets in the field. Its a soft cover or a helmet once they leave base. Once my team and i discussed the idea of buying berets, but we realized for the maintenance theyd be, they werent worth it. I would stick to soft covers, unless you want to spend the money to have two separate covers.

heres something interesting if you want to do recon team indiana.

Thanks for you help guys, but that's not what I'm looking for. Everything both of you last two people had just said I knew all about. The green beret thing is true, they don't wear those on the field. I've looked into patches, but I decided not to have a team patch because I do not believe SOG actually wore patches in the field. I know it's airsoft an all, but I want to stick with what's correct as much as possible. SOG did not operate in teams of two. Normally there were two actual Americans in a SOG Recon Team, an then the rest were mainly yards. It all depended on the mission though, there was no actual set format. Same with weapons, you don't get issued weapons, you use what you need. Sometimes Recon Teams could consist of 2-4 Americans, and 4-6 yards (Montagnards).

The main purpose of this post was to recruit anyone interested in joining my team. I just want a bunch of guys with CAR-15's, AK's, any Vietnam War Era related weapons, including NAM gear, who I can call RT Indiana.

One-Zero,
Just sent you a PM, I might be interested.

As for some of the uniforms, I like the idea of the good old black pajamas. Many SOF teams had at least their Point man in black pajamas to confuse the enemy. Plus it can double for a OPFOR uniform as well.
