G&G M14 and other Shot Show news!

Hello all. Darkstar here.

This week I returned from the 2005 Shot Show in Las Vegas, Nevada. And while there are many interesting things to talk about, the first question is many people's minds is the new G&G M14 airsoft AEG. So with that, I'll dive right in...

One primary target for the Shot Show was the Guay Guay Trading Company's booth. Guay Guay, commonly known by G&G, is introducing at least two AEG's this year, their new M14 AEG rifle and their SR-25 Stoner Rifle.

On approach to G&G's booth, one could clearly see the two M14 prototypes that were prominently on display.

After inspecting both guns, I spoke with several G&G representatives about the new M14 and asked for a complete rundown. The M14, which many people have been waiting for for a long time, is set to be released in March of 2005. Gladly, we won't have to wait long. Unlike other M14's currently on the market, G&G's M14 will be a full line production gun and is not a custom job. While actual delivery dates and quantities were not up for discussion, they seemed to indicate that while there may be initial shortages, there shouldn't be any major problems during the launch. I guess we'll have to keep our fingers crossed and hope they're not shooting for March 31st.

The M14's build is equally impressive as it's look. Upon picking up the gun, one will immediately notice its weight and solid feel. Having seen photo's of Marui's M14 prototype, I expected the plastic stock to have a more light weight feel, ala' Marui's AK-47 series fake wood grain stocks. This isn't the case with the G&G M14 at all. While they wouldn't specifically discuss what the main stock is made of, it definitely feel's heavy duty, and might survive the popular 'tree whack' test. It literally felt like I was holding the real thing. The receiver and barrel are all made of heavy aluminum, or perhaps even steel. A quick shake test passed with flying colors, with no apparent wobble, creaks, groans or other noises that might indicate a less than perfect assembly.

The look of the gun remains faithful to the real deal, from the flash hider to the fold up shoulder stock for extra support. The bolt mechanism, while not having any real function, can be locked back into place and release for that cool "Ka-Chink!" sound. Everything on the gun looks great, right down to the fire selector. Like other AEG's, the M14 will have both semi auto and full auto fire.

Another impressive feature is that the G&G M14 can be field stripped in about 20 second, just like the real M14 as well. While I wasn't able to really dig into the gun at all, this may take a lot of the disassebly work out of doing maintenance or gearbox upgrades and repairs.

The gearbox is also a completely new design. Being such, no one knows if it will be similar to the Marui M14 just yet, so we'll have to wait to see. Good news is that all the gears and pistons and those kinds of things are supposed to be compatible with Marui/Systema upgrade parts. I also have to comment on how heavy the empty gearbox they had on display felt. I was impressed. The motor is also bolted to the case like most Version 3 gearboxes, making out-of-the-gun testing much easier.

Batteries are stored in the stock, just like the M16's, G3's and such. Storage space appears to be cavernous, and G&G said it should fit a 9.6V without any modification, and "maybe even larger ones". This is good news for those wanting to convert theirs to a sniper rifle.

My only complaint was that they didn't have a working model there to dry fire. I would have liked to have heard the gun and felt the recoil during its operation. Honestly, I think I'll be impressed once they finally arrive.

G&G is also working on a true SR-25 style rifle that takes actual G3 magazines. Like the M14, the bolt locks back, and hitting the bolt release will release it for a nice sound. This will also make access to the hopup much easier. While they didn't have a completed version (the case of the body was pretty rough), they expect a release sometime in April or May of this year.

Also at the G&G booth was their new metal body for the Marui PSG-1 sniper rifle. I was impressed by the look, but it felt very light weight. That being said, I think it will still be as durable as other G&G products. I'm sure it will be welcomed by anyone who wants to add some extra durability to their PSG-1!

Well, thats about it. I think I've pretty much covered all the bases as far as what info I was given by G&G. If I've left anything out, I'll be sure to add it.

Darkstar out.

Darkstar, thanks for the great review, many thanks to you personally for bring us back this nice simple write up. I look forward to getting one of these personally, and will probably be first in line to pre-order one. It's just really nice to have someone who's handled one and can give us the heads up as to it's initial quality. I think for a lot of us the March release date and price tag could easily sound too good to be true, but I'm really happy to hear that the prototypes all look and feel really good, so that "too good to be true" feeling is definately going away.

Glad you had a good trip, and glad AA could give us some feedback. I think all of us who've been waiting years (3 in my case) are in for a real treat!

darkstar, did G&G have anything at their booth indicating anything about the UMP they are supposedly working on?

They did not have at their booth, nor did they provide any information on their UMP, so I unfortunately have nothing to report.

There was no difference between the two prototypes other than one being equipped with a scope mount. Both were non-functioning and were otherwise externally identical.

I emailed Airsoft GI last week, and they replied that the unit would be 500 dollars, I posted this on that other thread, I don't know why people didn't pick up on that fact.

While G&G says that final pricing will primarily depend on manufacturing costs associated with the full scale production runs, they say they are shooting for a $500-$550 price tag. They did not mention if that would be HK or US price though, so lets hope for US pricing.

Wink The M14 Variant Race has begun!

With all the news and rumors of new M14 variants from G&G, Hudson, TM and the like, it's refreshing to see a relative newcomer producing a new AEG. Star has recently released photos of their upcoming M14 SOPMOD. As posted on Arnie's Airsoft:

Quote:
StarAirsoft M14
StarAirsoft have added a shot of the M14 SOPMOD that's been doing the rounds to their site. There's no details yet, only a photo of the product. It's listed as "AEG-01" which would tend to hint towards it being a complete AEG rather than a kit.
http://www.arniesairsoft.co.uk/?go=h...acturer%20News

For those of you interested, the Star M14 SOPMOD is based on the Troy Industries M14 SOPMOD currently in use by Navy SEALs and various other US SF teams. It is a 16" barrel variant with a newly designed RIS kit. Troy Industries has produced the M14 Folding stock for several years.

There are some pics on Specwargear.com as well as Military Morons. Note the telescoping stock and adjustable cheek piece. Despite it's awkward look, I have shouldered one of the earlier realsteel M14 SOPMODs. It had a good solid feel.

I would expect Star will be releasing their M14 soon, as with many of their previous "news announcements." No price is available as of yet. For more information, visit Arnie's Airsoft and Star Airsoft.

Will the barrel be longer or as long as a TM m-16A2?

Well it's amazing what can happen when I'm gone for 2 weeks....

I think I fell in love.

It's good to see G&G kind of jumping ahead of the competition here with some new AEGs to tickle our taste-buds. I know a lot of people were distraught at the thought of another M4/MP5 only company, but it looks like G&G has pulled a fast one, and IM NOT ANGRY!

Along with, I'm sure hordes of people by now, I've already set aside about 450 for the M14, and that number will grow. If I am not mistaken, I heard you mention 2 prototypes? One with a scope mount, and one without? Does the one with the scope mount come with iron sights? No I don't want to make a Delta M21.... I have other plans in mind.

Thanks much,
Jack.
