Unhappy Broken ICS m4a1 Full Metal

So I got this ICS full metal m4a1 about 2 and a half years back but some stuff came up and I didn't really get a chance to use it until recently. I still have only probably put a max of 20 mags threw it. It's shot great except for a few minor issues (3 bbs always fall out when mag is released, tricky selector switch) but nothing really big, until now. I picked it up and when I went to shoot it it make this very slow and painful sound. I thought the battery was just dead so I charged it all up (with a smart charger) and the next day I put it in but it still made the same sound. I know that the piston has always been a common problem with people and this gun, do you think that could be it? I will post a link to a youtube video of this sound soon if I can.

Did the gun fire at all? Your gearbox may be locked up.

No it didn't fire, but the bbs did feed i just had to shake them out of the barrel. I have the split gearbox, so it might be easy to check. Any idea how I could see if this is correct or fix it?

What postion are the gears in? When you craked open the recievers, did you push the foward assist? Also have you tried to shoot it when the gearbox is split?

If you had it in storage for 2 1/2 years, your battery, no matter how much you charge it is wasted. Try borrowing a friends battery...I would bet it works.

...just saw the video...battery and piston would be my best estimate.

Naw I think the battery is fine it's been working fine the past few weeks that I've been using it, it's just recently when I picked it up that it wasn't working.

From the video It looks like the first tooth on your piston is gone. The lower gear shell sounds fine to me, make sure the piece of the piston isn't lodged in anything too. As for replacement of the piston, well you're in luck. You good sir have one of the easiest guns( and best IMHO) to tech. I suggest using a Bravo polycarbonate piston (red or blue) Those are the pistons I use in my ICS guns and I haven't stripped a piston yet. Need anymore help shoot me a pm man.

This is the go to guy for all your ICS needs. He knows just about everything about them. He is who I go to for my questions. The first rule of life, ALWAYS listen to Colossus. Very smart and a awsome guy to be around!

colossus would you say that the red (or extreme toughness version according to ASGI) piston is better than the blue? Or are they the same?

Alright. So I got the piston and I was taking apart the old one and noticed how odd the stock piston head was so I figure I might as well replace that too. I know ICS is particular about some parts that work in it so what would be a good piston head to go with the bravo piston (i got the red one)?

Almost all piston heads will work in an ICS. When I get mine back from Colossus Im going to put a Huricane piston head in mine.

Lenahan is right, almost all piston heads will work. You can get any type you like, I use the flat topped ones myself. You could even use the piston head from your old stock piston if you wanted. Just make sure whenever you put the new piston head in that the AOE isn't thrown off. If you need help send me a PM and we'll go from there.
