If I may throw my two cents in, it also depends on what loadout you want to go with. Marine and Army loadouts were basically the same, OD uniforms (I don't think they used normal OD BDUs, the stuff at Combat Sport Supply looks period authentic) M1 helmets with Mitchell Pattern covers which you may be able to substitute with an OD boonie hat because of how heavy M1 helmets are. Ofcourse that depends on what event you play at, because certain vietnam events require you wear correct gear. If you want to be real authentic you can get a period correct flak jacket, but it'll probably wear you out and dehydrate you because it's so heavy.

Web gear was M65 LCE with H suspenders:
http://www.olive-drab.com/od_soldier...am_webgear.php
Alot of people think that ALICE gear was used in Vietnam (Especially the ROTC program at Kent State as up until this year they were issued ALICE gear for training) which is not the case, I do believe ALICE was fielded for testing in limited numbers in Vietnam in the later years but I'm not sure. In theory you could use ALICE as a stand in if you wanted but if you went to a diehard vietnam event you'll probably get pegged for not having the right gear. Also they tended to use either brown or tan "bandoleers" draped across their chests to carry M16 mags. Of course since you have an M60 you won't have to worry about that. Not sure what machine gunners did with their extra ammo, sure you see alot of old pictures and characters in period films draped 7.62 nato ammo belts across their chest but I'm not sure if that was widespread or accepted back then. Infact to be 100% about gear, here's a pretty good list on this website with links explaining everything,L-shaped flashlight, E-Tool, canteens, etc:
http://www.olive-drab.com/od_military_gear.php

Different unconventional units wore the same web gear for the most part. However they wore different camoflague. For instance LRRPs (Long Range Reconaisance Patrol), MACV-SOG (Studies and Observations Group), Navy Seals and Special Forces wore Tigerstripe camo. Tigerstripe you may want to be careful with if you're going for the period correct look, because I've seen two different shades of it, a light and a dark version. Not sure which is period correct, Olive Drab might be able to tell you. These unconventional units for the most part also droppe the usage of helmets and stuck to either tigerstrip pattern boonie caps or OD or tigerstripe bandanas either wrapped around the forehead or as a skullcap. Also MACV-SOG sometimes wore regular ODs with a "tigerstripe" like pattern spray painted on. If I can find the link showing that I'll bring it up. Navy Seals typically preferred the Stoner 63 in the LMG config over the M60, and they also made their own chopped down version of the M60 wear they cut down the barrel and the stock and removed the sights. I've only ever seen one airsoft Stoner 63 on the internet, and it was a completely custom kit so I wouldn't worry about that, nor would I chop down an M60 so you would be okay with a regular sized M60. Also if you ever decide to drop the M60 in favor of a lighter weapon, the unconventional units utilized alot of other different weapons aside from the M16 or the M79, like the M14, the Xm177E1, and the Mac-10 (usually with a silencer) of course those are only the ones I can think of that are easily obtainable in airsoft.

If I'm wrong on anything you guys can go ahead and correct me. I just thought I'd write this up because I felt like it and I have been researching this stuff alot lately as well as in the past.

FYI-

Vietnamairsoft moved here:

http://www.vietnam-airsoft.com/phpBB3/

Go read those forums, they have great beginner guides and information. There are also militaria dealers there with excellent prices.

Comrade,

For the most part you are correct. However, the web gear is M1956' or 56' gear. There is also the less common M1967' or 67' gear. Alice did not come out until the late 70's. What you see in late war is 67' gear which looks very similar.

It was still a pointless post that contributed nothing to this thread...
If you don't have anything to contribute to the thread (I.e. not saying something was too expensive for you) then don't post it.

Quit digging your grave.

Rambo: To help you out, currently there is a for sale thread with the bare bones in terms of gear you might need right now for a steal. Its the basic belt and suspenders.

well i guess what your saying is right, but if you looked at the price of the next cheapest full metal M60, you could buy a decent car with the money. haha
