KJW M9 blowback issue

So I fire the m9 and it shoots... but it doesn't blow back. It fires small bits of gas after the original shot (small bits dont fire the bb). It wont blow back to recock the hammer. Any idea whats going on?

Small amounts of gas could be caused by a number of things.

Are you using propane or green gas, and how much is left in the tank?

How cold is it where you are shooting? How cold is the magazine?

When did this start happening?

Is there a large amount of gas spewing out the top? Or do you just get little puffs of gas when you pull the trigger? How many times can you get those little puffs of gas before the magazine is empty?

Green Gas and I only fill the mag with one, one second push. I get about 5 or 6 small puffs before i have to recock the entire slide again. Mag still has lots of gas. I was just testing it today and it wasnt really cold. room temp. I bought it and it worked fine then I switched out the outer barrel for a threaded one a few months ago and haven't shot it since.

Does the new barrel pivot when you rack the slide?

Only one second charging?

Well, for one thing, a green gas can is a lower pressure than a Propane tank. So you'll get less gas per charge. Secondly, only 1 second charging time is incredibly short. I usually charged my mags for at least 3 seconds on a propane tank, sometimes more, and I usually managed 40-70 rounds on one charge of propane per M9 magazine, depending on temperature. On a hot day I usually could get 60-70 rounds per charge.

A cold magazine will reduce the effectiveness of your gas, since a cold gas will exert less pressure, because it expands less.

Getting small puffs but still having gas in the magazine can be indicative of light striking, where only a little gas is released every time the striker hits the release valve.

Just to satisfy my curiosity, could you charge the magazine for a longer period of time and try again?

Video would be great too.

Have you tried filling the mag with more gas? If you're only doing a one second spurt so that you don't 'over fill' the mag, all you're doing is under filling it. There's absolutely no way to over fill any gas magazine.

@Texx: The barrel moves up and down slightly from the tip back in the slide.
@Aiden and Italian: I tried it with more gas, and it worked for a few shots but I came to the conclusion it wasn't blowing back all the way cause it wasn't catching with an empty mag. Will post a video probably tonight. Will do a fire test with bb's and without along with a take down piece by piece and to show you all what's on the inside.

so have you tried shooting it with the original outer barrel and seeing if it shoots? If you can, compare how the pieces fit together with the stock barrel, and the threaded barrel. There may be a burr or something thats not letting everything fit together and cycle fully (reset the hammer).

Another possibility is the striker is now striking light on the magazine. It just seems very strange because it coincides with the installation of an aftermarket part.

Hello AO.

Thank you for all the help I got here. I wanted to let everyone know I figured out the issue (after 2 months of fiddling). I came to realize the replacement outer barrel I bought to change the threads for the suppressor, was too long! The gas wasn't all getting into the blowback mechanism and therefore the blowback was short and it wasn't resetting the hammer. Now, I'm still in the process of fixing the problem buy shortening the outer barrel from the back by filing it down (a painfully slow process) but its already showing improvement from tests. So let me finish up with a warning about buying outer barrels, make sure they will fit properly on your specific model. Some modifications may need to be made to have your gun working properly after the swap. THANKS again AO!!! Mods please Lock.
