Torque, I got the Khaki charge pouch for really cheap to see if I liked it as a hydration carrier. Then I sold it to get the RG one.

Jack, what's an AP brush?

Sent from my Ally using Tapatalk, because I cant'afford a real Droid.

I picked up an SRC G36 in a trade. The Externals are not bad, but I never would have taken it if the original gears were still installed. They were replaced with a Modify Modular gear set.

I like the outer barrel design SRC uses and especially like the fake gas tube assembly. It is a little cheesy and flimsy, but the aesthetic payoff is quite good - you get a realistic-looking gastube. The metal parts have a realistic "bluing" coloration that is a decent pay off.

The G36C-syle rail lacks the metal plate reinforcement that Marui and JG use to make it a bit more sturdy, but I never intended to keep that rail and have already replaced it with a CA Optic Carry handle.

Another drawback to the SRC is the crappy wiring and trigger contacts - they are not able to push anything beyond a 9.6v and forget about running a LIPO unless you replace the contact points immediately, expect a melt down. Luckily, the G36 family and I are well acquainted and I plan some work on this gun before I toss it into any heavy work.

The one piece hop has been swapped out with a spare JG hop and magazine welll - this was a simple drop in and required no modification. I suppose I will be tossing that up for sale shortly - the two-piece Marui design used by JG, Marui, and CA seems to not have as many feed problems or maybe that is just this particular hop.

I understand quite well the g36 plastic hop is a delicate and fragile flower. The one-piece metal design is an improvement, certainly if you intend to swap the inner barrels. But this particular SRC hop is problematic - I'm glad the gun took the replacement because otherwise, it would be sold for scrap immediately.

I don't care for the fact the guns ship with an A2 flash suppressor - the G36 has its own unique style flash suppressors and the fact they leave that out bothers me. While I'm not exactly losing sleep over this, it is yet one more piece of metal to be replaced on your way to HK purity. They also try to glue their metal suppressor to the out barrel - not that its a problem to remove, but if they're going to try to glue a flash hider, they could at least use the right design. Nit-picking, sure. But they are producing a g36 variant, they can, at the very least, complete the look with accurate components.

I still prefer my previous custom build JG-based G36E and CA G36 to the SRC. I have never liked any of the SRC guns - I think they are flimsy and I've yet to see a gear set of theirs that can stand up to even moderate use. TSD should simply pull the stock gears and sell them with a gear set that's worth a damn. I have seen far too many SRC guns go down badly from just running a 9.6v, which they are supposed to be capable of running out of the box.

A unique point to my criticism of the SRC G36 was with my previous JG-based g36E, I used a Star G36 outer barrel and flash hider. These parts were well-designed and sturdy. But the star design was also a bit longer than the CA G36 - the Star allowed use of a 510mm M16 barrel as opposed to the 490mm CA. This is a benefit as the 480/490mm barrels are often used on M4s with use of the OPs Style over barrel fake suppressors. These suppressors are quite popular making the 480/490mm length inner barrels quick to disappear from the market. The ability to use a standard length M16 inner barrel without modification or the need to chop becomes a god send.

I find it somewhat amusing that a design coming from the STAR/Ares legacy could overlook externals while continuing to use the same crappy quality gears that shy me away from anything STAR/Ares other than external aftermarket components and magazines. I am glad they didn't make the gearbox utilize proprietary parts as that is a death sentence in design in my book. Do these companies actually intend the average player to use their guns out of the box? Certainly, I would not recommend using an SRC gun unless you are comfortable tinkering with it.

SRC does score brownie points for including two Midcap magazines and the Star G36 Midcaps seem to be the only existing G36 midcap that can operate without need for modification. King Arms/MAG Midcaps - meh. And while G&P does make a good G36 midcap, the availability and price leaves much to be desired. If not for the CA Beta Mag, I'm afraid this gun would not have come to my possession at all. Praise be to Allah.

I absolutely love the magazine release SRC uses. It is metal extended release, move you trigger finger downwards to activate. This makes mag changes quite easy. If i go through with a second JG build for the G36K, I will make sure to pick up one of these mag releases as they are a G36 operator's dream.

So, I have a Russian Sfera "Sphere" helmet on the way.

I'm fairly excited because I have been hunting for one for a long time now. There are Ukrainian ones out there that most people see, however, naturally, I could only settle for a real Russian one.

I finally managed to score one.

The big differences between the Russian and the Ukrainian ones is that the Russian ones have a plastic chin cup while the Ukrainian ones have fabric one. The Russian ones typically come in OD but there are camo covers for them. VSR is very commonly seen. Ukrainian ones are usually always black.

I should get it next week and hopefully in time for Broadsword 3.

For those not familiar with the Sfera helmet -

As seen during the Beslan school siege;

And back when it was most common during the First Chechen War.

These helmets have seen action from the late 80s / early 90s and are still in use today. They are unique because they are made from three pieces of titanium. These pieces slide when the wearer puts the helmet on to create an "One size fits all" use. It is rated Russian level 2 and according to some sources - "It is designed to protect no less then 10dm2 of the total head area from all sorts of explosion fragments as well as 7.62mm Tokarev and 5.45mm PSM bullets and 6.35 & 5.6mm pistol bullets (Russian protection level - 2) ."

It's currently still seeing action in some specialized MVD units.

Once I finally get my hands on it, I'll post pictures.
