Rifle Ranges in Central Ohio...

I'll start off this post by telling all of you something about myself: I am a first time firearm owner. At the end of last year, I bought a 1938 Mosin Nagant 91/30. Not the greatest gun in the world, I know, but I love it. Regardless, here's the point of this post.

The only range I'm aware of in Central Ohio that allows full-sized rifle cartridges is the range at the Delaware Wildlife Area. However, this range closes in the wintertime. I only got to the range once with my rifle, and I am currently itching to go again. However, it won't be open for a few more months.

Here's my question: Are there any rifle ranges in central Ohio that are open year-round?

Here is a list of public (ODNR) ranges:

http://www.dnr.state.oh.us/Home/wild...1/Default.aspx

And what their uses are.

As for private ranges:

http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=8&f=12&t=160

Link to Ohio ranges and mini-reviews. Might take some time paging through them.

Hope it helps,
Fox

Oh god yes. Basicly $20 just to get in the door. They've gone way up in price. Plus that place is getting dangerous. A suicide and accidental shooting in a 6 month period.

so after reading UMs comment about the accidental shooting and the suicide, i clicked on their web site and saw that their mission statement is:
Our Mission: To ensure you have an enjoyable, safe, shooting experience each and every visit..
and thought, hmm, not so safe, and got a chuckle outta it!

First off, WONDERFUL! The hobby & sport of shooting and gun collecting is very misunderstood in the US ... Second, the Mosin Nagant is a great way to start. That rifle is full of history and is a great shoulder arm ... you should love it. You should also consider supporting national organizations that help to preserve your rights.

For some detailed infromation on the history of the Mosin Nagant, consider finding a WWII Soviet Living History Reenacting organization; they will have a ton of information to share with you about your new rifle and how it was employed on the battlefield. Such as:

http://www.39thguards.com/

or these guys ….

http://www.95thrifles.org/

I know you have an itchy finger and want to shoot your new firearm, but wait until Spring! It is a much more pleasent time to shoot.

I personally go to Aim Hi. Close to home and my dad helps out at the GSSF shoots and pin night. Can't really say much about the suicides, just unfortunate cause it gives the range bad rep.

I was a member for 3 years and it's not what it used to be sorry.... My visit in november was less then par from what they used to be. Most of the rule changes were in part the fault of idiots I do admit that. The staff I delt with were too busy playing with each other and when I got help, they had attitudes. I felt like some unwelcomed ****ing noob when working with these people considering I've had classes, a membership and did member shoots on a weekly basis for 3 years.

If Im not mistaken most of the ohio public ranges open back up in just a couple weeks. While not exactly in central Ohio it is certainly worth the drive - Woodbury is the coolest range Ive seen so far. Bathroom facilities and such arent great - portapotty BUT the range is on the top of this plateau and they have 25 - 200 yard and theres never been more than a couple people there.

all the good people at nasr left a while back.
prices are supposedly going down but i have not been there in a year at least.

private ranges are the way to go and even better is private land.
http://www.pcsirange.com/
http://www.bigdarbycreeksr.com/
are fairly close.
there's also a place called contenders/rushville, your gonna have to check the forums to find out where it is.
there used to be some pretty big local shoots but liability issues killed them being on private land and what not.
