Memorial Day

Most people have cookouts, get togethers with family and friends and enjoy a 3 day weekend. Do you know what memorial day is really about?

Memorial Day is a day to remember those who gave their lives for the country you live in and to reflect that these few men and women are the backbone of this nation.

Some of you know someone who has given their lives to our nation. On this day.....stop drinking your beer and eating your burgers for a few minutes and give them your thanks by remembering them for what they did to keep you in the greatest nation on this planet.

VETERANS: You are only a 6% of this country......you know someone who has died in battle.....get your butts to the cemetary and place a flag on your brother's/sister's grave and give him or her the deserved salute!!!!! Remember the brother's and sister's you served with who are no longer with us.

PLEASE DON'T RESPOND WITH WAR STORIES OF PEOPLE YOU KNOW....

Memorial day...........it's not supposed to be a happy day

Great idea SK09 but the best way you can show your respect to the fallen is to fly a flag on your house.....they would appreciate it.

Correct.....half mast until 1200.

Procedures for half masting:
(1) Haul up quickly
(2) Lower very slowly

Thank you to my uncle and relatives who have served, and everyone else who have served this Brave, Free Country. WE all owe a debt greater than we can ever pay.

I'd rather see people go to the cemetary and place a flag on veterans graves. You can easily tell them as they have a bronze star by them
You can get a small American flag for less than a bag of BB's or an event fee.

Your welcome. Everyday should be a memorial day to our fallen brother's and sister's.

Although I am only a cadet, going to school to earn my degree before I commission, thanks to all who are serving and those who served. I hope to join your ranks soon. For everyone I have a quote that is near and dear to my hart that symbolizes the strength and sacrifice of every service member.

Sir, John Stuart Mill's quote is as follows,

"War is and ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decay and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself."

This is very true in our country and if it wasnt for the exertions of better men, this country would have never been founded and it would not be the greatest nation in the world. Remember, land of the free, because of the brave!

SB, your welcome.

Thank those who you can't say that to in person, they mean more than us who are alive.

I agree with everything that Miyagi said, except perhaps for the last line. I contend that this is supposed to be a happy day, as well as a day of remembrance. Yes, we do mourn for those who have given their lives, and we pay them all due honor and respect, but today is also a day when we celebrate those freedoms that they've fought so hard to preserve. For many, including the veterans I know, this does mean a trip to the cemetery, but it also means spending time with their families. Remembering our veterans should make us feel lucky, proud, and honored to have received such a gift, and by all means we should make good use of it.

So go to the cemetery, place a flag. Then if you want go home, light up the grill, and raise a glass of cold beer in their honor... there's more than one way to salute.

Here is one of my favorite quotes for this special day.
"If you are able to save for them a place inside you,and save one backwards glance when you are leaving for the places they can no longer go. Be not ashamed to say you loved them, though you may or may not. Always take they have left and what they have taught you with their dying and keep it with your own. And in that time when men decide and feel safe to call war insane take one moment to embrace those gentle heros you left behind."

It is said that the soul travels ahead of the body.
That our thoughts, emotions, and inner strength travel
faster then our physical being. It is my prayer that
those who have given their lives for our freedom have
traveled well. I pray that they may have traveled without
thoughts of pain, regret, or sorrow. For those of you who
have honored us with your greatest sacrifice. We remember.
We will always remember you as true heroes, fighting for
our salvations. What ever religion, backround, or ethnicity
you may be, may you continue to serve amongst the
greatest militia known. May you walk within the ranks of
angels, forever with peace. Your footsteps will always
be engraved into history. Rest in piece, ye brave
warriors. You will always be remember.
