Team problems

My team is having disciplinary problems as far as showing up for practice and following orders on the field. I want to find a way to correct this but I don't want to be too harsh to them. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you.

Hugs. Or the cat o' nine tails. Whatever floats your boat. Just realize this: these guys are going to follow your lead just as much as they d@mn well please, since you don't cut their paychecks, they haven't signed any contracts, and they're doing this of their own free will, for fun. So if they aren't team players or any sort of committed to the team or sport, you aren't going to change that. May as well cut 'em loose, save yourself some grief.

Edit: I'm not actually advocating corporal punishment for missing practice...

I agree with Triarius. Don't waste your time trying to change their way. If they did not get the idea of how a team should work, just let them go.

p.s. Triarius, I also agree with you about the corporal punishment. Its awesomeness can't be applied for missing practices

Honestly you are asking how to make somebody follow orders and have discipline in an activity that is voluntary and for fun. It doesn't sound like your teammates take the hobby nearly as seriously as you do and I don't know that you are going to change it.

Yep, find another team that meets your guidelines for what you want airsoft to be.

Not trying to insult you, but it may just be that you don't command the respect of those your are trying to lead. I'm really not trying to insult you, but to lead people they have to think of you as infallible, as well they have to know to take you seriously, as well as not. Also, a lot of people react differently to being told what to do, and reorganizing your squad so that everyone is considered equal may produce results, or maybe even giving command to someone that people take seriously, or more professionally.
