It's great to see that the site is getting the attention needed. If it wasn't for the site I wouldnt be involved as much as I am. I'd like to see the Classifieds back to hoppin' like it was a couple years ago, and more events listed! I love the way this is going.

I second that, back in the day I couldn't keep up with the classifieds. People were just buying/selling like crazy, now I see maybe one new thread a week of someone quitting and selling their stuff off lol.

Anyways, good luck and be safe at BF everyone, I hope the meeting goes well and I can't wait to read about it on here. I look forward to the future of airsoft in Ohio.

2 things I have noticed in regards to AO and the airsoft community in general.

1) I use to be able to come to AO, see all events listed in one place, see how many were attending, and choose my OP based on this information. I now have to bounce from face book, to hidden valley to FW to DP to OOBI to here and I still do not know who is going where!!!! AO was great for the community and as it has declined, so has the community

2) I whole-heartedly agree there needs to be more teaching and less trolling in this community. Airsoft will die fast if it is not nurtured. I would like to take my hat off to Jonah Mullins and OOBI for running training OPS through the year to help revive this sport. More of this is needed.

Well well welly well. What have we here. I'm on board to support the next step no matter what it may be in any capacity I can.

I won't try and make any points that have already been brought up but I do have a few points to make. I don't think the community has changed in a negative way, or even a positive way. It's just changed. It's not what it used to be, and that's OK. Now is the time we get to choose in what direction we want it to go.
It's 4days before Blind fury, hands down the largest and most historic game series in Ohio. I will be on the field as staff talking with some players first hand to hear what they have to say, not just about the game, but the community, the comraderie, and where they want to see airsoft Ohio.
We must throw away the preconceived notions on what airsoft Ohio was and focus on the future.

As the recent Red Dragon host, I totally agree with the 4,7,8, and 9.
This is where I throw in my full support. Fully scratch AO, new accounts, wipe forums will happen but we can eventually rebuild that information as a community, most of us know vast amounts of information on the hobby/sport by heart at this point, no reason that stuff can't be expressed again.

One thing I do want to throw out there is having the option to attach a real name to our callsigns/nicknames that identify us on the forum, I see this as a positive element of facebook, you have to own up to your own identity, people know who you are, and you are held accountable for your words and actions.

Finally I am extremely happy to see people stepping up to get real discussion down. It seems there are many collective goals people want to see. Just because this thread went all over the place, I think I want to leave my thoughts on software updates, stronger and cheaper website hosting, and a stronger, more useful event listing system that can produce better RSVP responses.

I can tell you that the forum update discussion is already ongoing with Prophet who will be doing hosting and development as well as maintenance. As for the rest of it, I am very encouraged to see this many people participating as well as throwing out ideas an support! I look forward to discussing this more in person at Blind Fury!

I don't like the idea of "scrapping" the AO site and starting all over. I agree that there are some things that need to be removed and/or cleaned up. I don't think that deleting everything will really solve anything that is "wrong" with our community...

Finally, I will also assure everyone that we HAVE the ability and willingness to actually put the plan in action. This will not be just another "oh let's do that" and we sit on it thread. At the very least we will move AO to a new server with the latest software. For that I am looking for volunteer webmaster who can help with the transition.

Comments are definitely welcome! Let's hear them!

If i had the time, I would be the webmaster, but I probably won't. put me down as a last option. now for your questions:
1.delete all accounts six months inactive, and their classifieds.
2.there is some relevant info. (EG pmogs, classifieds, ECT.) so it so it should really be a thing of delete ONLY the inapplicable ones and all classifieds where the OP has not visited the forums in six months.

Well, I didn't expect a large turnout at the revival meeting, but I did expect more than 1 or 2 to show up. I was profoundly disappointed to see that the only people that showed up were Jonah (for a little bit before he had to go to his civilian meeting) and Blade. Literally nobody else, not even people that messaged me about it.

I'm not even really sure what to say about that, to be honest.

I would've been there too but things happened and I didn't arrive until dark.
Had to set up before the rain came.

My understanding from talking to Wallace is that there will be a new server &/or host with all the same topics saved as there is still some valid and useful information in these threads.
Wallace said something to the affect of, (and this is not verbatim)
"Who am I to decide what should stay and what should go? We don't have the time or manpower to sit and vote on each and every post."
So he said something along the lines of just keeping it all and moving it over.

He DID say that there will be minutes posted of the meeting and what happened during the meeting.

Wow, I honestly feel bad for having prior commitments now. Wish I would have been able to come to the event and meeting. Maybe next time we schedule a meeting, we shouldn't do it at an event, too many things going on. I would gladly take time out of my day to go to a meeting somewhere for an hour or two.

Also I'd like to add that when I asked Blade about it either Saturday or Sunday morning, he said that it might happen on Sunday after the game, and when I talked to Wallace after the raffle, he said it had already happened. Lots of miscommunications there...

I know. I had read that when you had posted it, but I don't know you in person so I couldn't find you, nor did I actually know that I actually did in fact know who Wallace was either. At the time, I didn't know Wallace was the guy from ZShot. I had seen him at Crucible but I didn't really talk to him much, nor was my team this interested in reviving the community so we didn't really meet and remember many folks.
As I said, I was late Friday night. Couldn't be there as much as I wanted to, being that I started this thread...
So the only person I knew to go to was Phil (Raider) or Blade. When Phil said he wasn't sure if it happened, I went to Blade, this I believe was Saturday morning, possibly Sunday. Either way, clearly after the meeting had happened.
That being said, when I asked Blade, I said, "Hey, do you know what's going on with that AO meeting? Did it happen?"
He didn't actually say whether or not it happened from what I can remember, but I know he DID say that it may happen after the game/raffle on Sunday.

When I arrived Friday, I knew I was late, I was simply trying to find out what had happened, and that's what I was told. That's all I'm saying.
I'm not saying there was any ambiguity...
I'm saying Blade clearly gave me the wrong information, that's why when I found out that the ZShot guy is Wallace, I went to him directly and asked, getting the answers I sought out for.

First AO Reform Meeting Minute

Gents (and ladies),

The first AO reform meeting went well and I would like to thank everyone who showed up. To keep you all updated, the meeting mainly rehashed items already discussed so there are no surprises here. But I would like to cover the action items as a result of the meeting. Primarily, it has been agreed that the current AO lacks several important aspects:

1. Features – the forum software is, arguably, 11 years old. VB v.3 was introduced in 2004, and the latest stable maintenance release (3.8.7) dated back to 2011. i.e. no new features has been added for at least 4 years, which is an eternity in today’s internet age.

2. Insufficient “leadership” for new members. There will always be noobs, but not all noobs are idiots. When we start writing off inquisitive minds as ignorance, the sport will fall. And I think the big reason is that perhaps many of the old moderators has been burned out – it is a very thankless job, and since nobody ever get paid, it will wear on you.

3. Site availability and future stability – I want to personally thank Locutus for managing and paying for hosting fees for the better part of 10 years, as well as Jonah and his crews for stepping up to the plate after Locutus’s retirement. However, without a strong financial backing, AO members will always face some risk of long term viability of the forum.

Many ideas was discussed but in the end the following items had been motioned and approved:

1. Software Migration. A new thread will be created to discuss feature requirements, then actual selection of forum software, and defining project scope. I will take the responsibility for forum software funding.

2. Hosting upgrade. AO will be moved to a new server that will be funded directly by ZShot Inc. However, ZShot will never be given any control of AO’s management – whatsoever. This will essentially and forever protect AO from being “commercialized” – AO will not require any other financial support to function (i.e. it can remain advertisement free), while continue to be community-controlled. I basically want to avoid the downfall of the PTW forum, which is now run by a businessman who, among many things, openly deletes posts that disapprove his product and services.

3. Moderator refresh. Once the new forum software is in-place, a new management system and moderator election process will be implemented. This process will involve identifying individuals with leadership quality who can be trusted with the important duty of being AO moderators. It will be a two-step process: "AO Leadership" program and "AO council" election.

3a. All members are encouraged to participate in “AO Leadership” program, by attending AO events and teach newcomers the honor and respect of the sport. After demonstrating a proven track record, such individual would earn the “AO Field Leader” position.

3b. Once a year, AO members will be asked to nominate “Field Leaders” to be placed in the AO council. Council members will then be given forum moderator authority, as well as deliberate AO policies and other decisions. Currently I am considering no more than 12 seats in the council. Nominees will be voted into the council by AO members through an open election, and council members, if nominated, can be re-elected – but no more than 3 years consecutive terms can be served.

3c. Before this can happen, there will be a transition period where potential leaders can emerge and prove themselves to the community. During the interim period new moderators will be appointed and will be tasked to run the forum temporarily: Initially two SuperModerators will be appointed. I have nominated Blade and Jonah to bear this important duty; both attended the first AO reform meeting and I feel their many years of service to the community deserves to be recognized. Next, these SuperModerators will each appoint a number of moderators who will oversee AO operations for 1 year. This multi-level of "appointment" structure ensure the necessary transparency and neutrality of the forum – aka as owner and financial backer of the site, I myself (nor ZShot Inc) will not have any say in the forum’s operation whatsoever. This will also ensure the upcoming council election in a year will be run open and fair, and that anyone who wishes to contribute to AO’s future growth (such as Kishi who started this thread) can step up to the plate and show the community “we care”.

4. Online/Offline “integration” (OOI). Being a regional community, the attendees believe the more we can incorporate real-life activities into the online forum, the tighter the community will become. The “Leadership” program is just a starting point; we will build a platform upon which we can continue to reward integrity and sportsmanship to every members of the community. Although it is still premature to discuss the details, we must however ensure the foundation is present in the new forum software to allow these future expansions.

I think the above summarized all the major discussion topics occurred in this past Sunday night. I personally want to thank all of you regardless if you were able to make it to the meeting. Your participation is very important to us, as knowing there are people who care is what drove us to move forward. So please keep your suggestions coming as every single one of them will be considered!

As far as elected council can a few 4-6 members be regionally elected? Since we are from different corners of the state/area we all frequent different fields and play regularly with different people.
