Commo?

As far as commo is going what are the majority of people using. Is mbitr a big thing in the civilian world?

You get a bit of everything. FRS and GMRS are the norms. Talkabouts radios are the one I see the most at open plays and small milsim events. When it becomes more serious gaming, Mbitr and alike are used much more.

MBITR's are used by the more serious players, but casual players are more likely to be seen with walkie talkies. A nice medium between the two are Baofeng radios, which are amateur handheld ham radios that are repurposed for airsoft use. They generally feature a good range, low price, and great functionality for most fields.

The baofengs are programmable radios in the VHF/UHF range, and most people program them onto the FRS/GMRS bands used by most players. That's by far the most common setup I've seen.

Piggybacking off of this, I can't give the Baofeng enough praise. The price, functionality, and modularity is all there. I have my baofeng set up with a boom mic (Baofengs take 2-pin headsets and mics), extended battery, and an extended antenna. It is also programmed to FRS/GMRS on my channel mode, leaving frequency mode for manual programming. All around an awesome radio.
