Suggest a Teams section

Would there be any benefit for there to be a teams section of the forums? I was thinking of something where teams could post their rosters and keep in touch as far as camo patterns for upcoming events or team announcements or even updates as to whether or not a team will be participating in an event.

Why not have a team spokesman that takes care of registering the team for an event, but that is a subject for another thread I think.

The last teams section wasn't too much of a success. Too many non-legit teams registered themselves into the old teams section, and it became very cluttered and difficult for people to navigate through and find the legit teams as well it wasn't really on the "space saving" side. As far as I could see, once someone registered their team (legit or non-legit) on there, they just kind of left their little plot of bandwith to be as it was and never updated it with new rosters or a new team site address if they changed domains.

Personally I think the new links section works perfectly well for those who would like to put their team's site address up, but there really isn't any need for a section dedicated to teams let alone a forums section dedicated to them either. I'm sure there's plenty of others here that feel the same way.

Thats the worst idea I've ever heard, with the exception of the time my exgf told me to come home to meet her parents during her sister's graduation weekend. There were a few problems that should have kept me away:
  • I had already known her parents for several years, as her brother was a friend of mine. I didn't really need to come back to see them, I knew what her house was like.
  • Her plan for us to sneak out in her parents truck was flawed due to the fact both of her parents had passed out from doing shots of Cuervo and you could have driven a dump truck over the house and still not awaken them.
  • Her plan for us "to sit in the bed of the truck and just snuggle" was inherently flawed as she had chosen to leave her pants on the driver seat - how can you get warm when your nearly bare butt is sitting on cold metal? a fact I largely regret roughly nine months later and ever since.

Yeah, I was stupid and made mistake by listening to a 18 year old make plans for my weekend. Never again.

Oh yeah, the teams section - bad idea. Very bad.

But so that this thread isn't totally negative and bring you down with hurtful feelings, think of something pleasant like puppies and fluffy bunnies...That's better.

Team Section on AirsoftOhio

I've noticed (unless I haven't looked hard enough) that there is not a team option on the website. I don't know what everyone else thinks but it'd be kind of nice to have a list of teams on this website with the appropriate members in their respective teams. What does everyone else think about this???

From what I've seen on other websites, it's a pretty pointless section for forums. It doesn't get used enough to warrant it. Most teams have their own sites.

Actually, when the old AO had a teams section, the problem was just the opposite. There were too many teams being added while most of them were group of 3 or so guys that just registered and did nothing. It was extremely cluttered with inactive and nonexistent teams.

Such a section would work if there was a time limit set on the listing. If not updated in a given time it would expire and be deleted. This is an easy way to keep it clean without human intervention.

As one of the moderators who used to co-administrate the old Teams Section, I am glad it is gone and hope it never comes back. Kiddies whose "besets friends" just got a Daisy PowerStrike would group themselves into "Teams" and have the "besets" time creating a forum...

Then it would sit unused for the next six months until it was removed. Towards the end of my Administrative duties, I used the unused Teams Forums to store Locked Off Topic Threads until such time as I could delete them.

Then there were the accusing PMs to various Moderators and Admin accusing them of treacherously refusing their team in all matters of reason. Alot of it outright accused them of fascist motives or elitism.

Pathetic.

The current Links section gives you the ability better catalog the link to your private Team website.

If you must advertise your team, post a thread in the Introductions thread and then make an effort to show up to games and contribute, as a team, to the community.

I hope the Teams Section never comes back and that we all learned from the horrors it created. Six teams with mispelled names because the person forming the team could not spell and that their interest in posting a team uncovered the Nefarious AO Nazism Plot...

I actually just remembered this, but this thread is a remnant of one of the common threads that occured in relation to the "Team" section:

"Teams Section"

I've been contemplating starting this thread for about a week now, and I've decided to go for it. So, here goes.. . . .

I noticed, way back in the day, before AO received it's makeover, there was a section for the Teams of Airsoft Ohio to post their information. From what I had heard and understood, the reason that this was removed throughout the "makeover", was because it was an "administrative nightmare", and I can understand where that came from.

I am also aware that Big Clips had made a thread at one time titled (or close to), "If you are looking for a team/recruits, click me, read me, then PM me." (I cannot find the thread anymore). Anyways, that seemed to loose it's touch, and soon Big Clips was not responding to it and people were simply posting their information all over the thread (this included myself, I'm not pointing fingers).

I was looking over the "Introductions" section of Airsoft Ohio and I noticed that it seems to be working out very well, where people can introduce themselves, carry on conversations with others about their selves, gain credit, etc. . .
So now I'm sitting here thinking, "Why can't we do the same for teams?" Keep the principals the same, start a thread about your team, if you are recruiting or not, team information, and contact information. This would also help resolve the threads I see now and then about teams recruiting in the "General Discussion" and the such. Then they could be updated continually as needed.

This is just a thought from myself that may perhaps help to keep things more organized and user efficient on the boards, maybe not. Now, I'm looking for input, and I'd like to see what the rest of the community has to say on my thoughts and suggestion.
Thanks.

Look at the Links section. You'll find you can add an entry for your team.

I believe Big Clips had posted a thread for people who were actively looking for a team and what area they were located in. As you said, after a while he didn't keep the list updated and it just stagnated. I don't really see a need to have a thread about who wants to be on a team or not, though it might be cool to have a user setting of some kind to show other people you're looking for a team. Of course I guess users could always create something for their signature or user bars that would indicate they're looking for a team, or are recruiting for their own team.

Darkstar out.

Oscar: Thanks, I didn't notice that, I have probably looked everywhere but there, I haven't ever noticed that, now that I think of it.

Darkstar: That's a greats suggestion, I haven't thought about that.

I just figured that it would be a more convenient way to categorize this type of thing. Thanks for the input so far.

So what if a team roster stays the same? Who's in charge of making sure its updated? What rules for "updates" are there? If i create a team website and do a news cap once a month, is that an update? If my roster stays the same for 6 months will it be deleted?

Yes, but why promote a team-dictator?

Just make an independent site for you team, and let's move on.

Welcome to AO.

Perhaps if the Team creates a team introduction, maybe that would not be out of line for posting in the Introduction area.

You could call the thread: "About Team XXX"

List where the team is based, what the team is about, and whether you are recruiting. Than have the members introduce themselves as subsequent posts in the thread.

Otherwise, I'm sure we could start an "Airsoft Ohio Teams" teams thread in line with what Big Clips had done previously, but lock the thread up and set it up to contact a moderator to have your team added. There would be some requirements for the team to post there, but that is mostly to insure that we don't fall into the old problems that plagued the last one.

I'd volunteer to host said stickied thread, if others were interested in it becoming a reality, as I'm on rather more often than Big Clips.

Yeah, the only problem is teams that become inactive, or never become active to begin with. You can probably expect an angry post from someone every several days, expressing their malcontent with your moderating abilities after you deleted their team titled, "UBER-NOOBS WITH WALMART PISTOLS".

Props if you want to take it on, but it'll be a lot of hassle.

Well I suggest a solution to that issue. Provide a rule that every month on a specified date, such as, the first of every month, (or within 3 days of that date) each person or team on the list has to send Spencer a private message regarding whether they are active or not, and if they don't send you a message, presume their information is now invalid and delete it from the thread. I'm sure its a lot of work, but if Spencer is willing to take on the responsibility it would be good for the community in my eyes.

I made a list of possible requirements to prevent the "Ubar-Noobs" scenario.
  • Team must be an active participant within the AO Community
  • Team must actively participate in Ohio/Ohio Area Airsoft Events
  • Team must contain 5 or more active AO members
  • Team must maintain a current team website with current contact information

The Teams thread will be locked and information updates will be via contacting the moderator.

I think these requirements would encourage teams to organize beyond the "wow lets have a team since we all gotz gunz, lolz!!11" phase. If the team wants to be recognized by the community, they need to do their part to be an actual team, show that their team is worthy of be noticed, and actually attend games that community is putting together.

We could do it similar tot he way the Ohio Airsoft Retailer thread is situate in the Retail Section.
