Systema 120 Gearbox Trouble

Man, am I having the luck.

This is about the breakdown of a Systema 120 gearbox that is less than six months old. It all started with the piston jamming in the spring compressed position. Upon opening the gearbox I discovered nothing out of the ordinary minus a small piece of grey metal. It is a rectangle about 5mm in length. It was floating freely inside the gearbox. I had a hard time placing this piece and found no location it was missing from. It was when I rebuilt the gearbox and fired it several times that the next problem occured. I had lost power. Went threw the check list
  • Check battery connection
  • Check fuse
  • Try another battery
  • Check wires from fuse back to gearbox
  • Check motor connections
  • Test power with volt meter to motor
With a volt meter I noticed there was no power to the motor. It was time to check the switch. When I opened the gearbox I found the switch plug up and out of position. This was causing the trigger to miss the switch plug. I reset the switch plug and rebuilt the gearbox. After a few shots, the same problem occured. I had been talking to another player and we had identified the random piece that had come out of the gearbox. It is a piece molded to the gearbox shell that prevents the trigger plug from moving out of place. It is a small cheap piece of pot metal that never looked like it would hold up long at all. The is no way to replace this piece asside from buying a new gearbox shell.

To sum it up, I'm disappointed with the quality of the design of this piece. I'm going to have to contact Systema to see if they can solve this problem. I'm hoping the worse case is buying a new gearbox shell. But with how fragile this parts was, I'm affraid to buy another one.

Hopefully this post will help someone if they are having the same problem.

That was one of the problems that was in that batch of V2 G&G gearboxes a while back that they replaced.

I've seen this happen several times to Systema gearboxes over the past few years. Nothing new. You'd think they would fix the problem by now.

You MIGHT be able to drill/tap a hole for a countersunk screw and file the screw square as a replacement. But then again, it might be more work than its worth.

This isn't just a systema issue, it happens to all Version 2 gearboxes. I've seen it happen to plently of Marui's, as well as Classic Army, ICS and others.

Darkstar out.

This is the second time I've seen something like this happen. What were the circumstances? Was it wet/cold?

If you bought the gun from a US company that deals with ZShot.com, then they come with warranties, although I can't say that I know off hand how long it is.

It happened on a warm, dry, and sunny 70 degree day. If I remember, they come with a 90 day. If that is the case, I'm SOL.
