Maruzen MP5K Not Cycling

I bought a GBB MP5K off of a guy on craigslist advertised it does not hold gas in the mag. Picked if up for $30 assuming it was a WELL G55 and just needed a new mag. Turns out it is a Maruzen MP5K and the mag does hold a charge. I was using green gas and did not know at the time it need HFC 134a gas.

I took it apart and everything seems to function right up to the pin pushing the button on the mag releasing the gas does not fully push it in resulting in it only cycling some of the time. My question is will using HFC 134a gas solve this problem? and if so is there anywhere local I could get it because from what I understand the gas is Freon (I could be mistaken).

Also, once fixed would it be wise to field this as it is an antique (again from my understanding I could be mistaken) or should I sell if and buy something else? It is in very good condition minus a couple off scratches and scuffs.

Any input would be helpful. Thanks in advance

Maruzens are designed to be run on R134a, not GG, so the 134a should help your problem. That is, however, assuming that the GG hasn't already damaged the internals.

134a is a lower pressure gas than green gas. If the striker is not hitting the magazine valve, this is more likely a mechanical problem with the trigger, not with the gas being used.

I would look at the trigger firing pin/striker assembly to see if there may be an obstruction, missing component, or even damage. I would suspect damage from dry firing.

There was a modification for the Maruzen MP5K to use Green gas, but it involves modifying the magazines as well as reinforcing the gun's internals.

Keep in mind, some japanese gas magazines have a blow out feature/flaw that prevents prolonged use of high pressure gases. On some designs its intentional while others, more likely just designed for 134a with no intention of pushing it beyond that.

I would suggest checking out Classic Airsoft or asking there as the Maruzen is an older design that just happens to still be in production.

Somewhere in AO's older posts there may still be linkage to an airsofter that did some extensive modification to his Maruzen - this would be back in the 2003-2004 posts and I doubt the guy's site is still alive, you might need to use Wayback or some other archival service to find the materials.

If you do a google search, I would suggest "Maruzen MP5 Green gas" or similar search keywords.

Thanks for the responses. I actually fixed the problem by lubing the piston and magazine valve mechanism which solved the problem because a gas release of some sort was sticking inside the piston. Got it working not and tested it using the special type of computer duster cans
