Deans allow for a more efficient flow of energy and are less prone to arcing that can cause tamiya connectors to melt. I've seen it happen.

Deans are actual hobby connectors the tamiya one originally came off appliances way way WAY back in the day.

Deans are soldered to the wires whereas Tamyias are crimped onto the wires. Deans have gold plated connectors, the other don't. Deans wont fall apart or melt in the middle of a game like Tamyias can....

EDIT: Sniped by Kraken.

The biggest difference is durability. Deans are more reliable, whereas tamiya tend to get bent and /or the wires get pulled out of the connector. I have done a little testing to see if ROF is higher with deans over tamiya, and there is a negligible difference if any.

A negative to deans is that you have to know how to solder (or have them installed by someone who does) but the soldered connection is far stronger.

+1 on Deans connector. Much easier to unplug and plug in on the field. Just remember that the female goes on the battery and male connector on the AEG. And remember the charger you had for your battery will also have to get converted.

Higher discharge batteries almost require Dean's over Tamiya. Dean's can handle more output current which in turn will likely improve ROF or just not melt your Tamiya. If you have a mini Tamiya type connector I think Dean's can handle something like 5 amps more.

Not to hijack but I have a question of my own with this subject. Will it have any negative effect if you just use a converter on your charger to go from tamiya to deans?

Not on the charger, only on the battery.

It will be fine. There will not be any negative effects while using the converter on the charger.
