Okay guys, my gun is an ICS MP5. I've had it upgraded I a bit, and it recently started making a very scratchy noise. It's very violent-sounding and to me it sounds like the pinion gear is stripping from the next gear that it moves (don't remember what that one is, sector? bevel?) If anyone knows what this might be and how to fix it, I would like to know.
http://youtu.be/whd6EiydEUI here is what it did sound like Second, after firing it like this for a while trying to diagnose it, I took out the motor and looked at the pinion gear. It looked okay to me, and I put it back in. Of course, like any noob, I put it in the wrong way so the pinion gear tried to work against the next gear. Immediately smoke came from the gearbox and I heard a sort of noise you hear when you use mouthwash then spot it out. Kinda bubbly, or like something sizzling. Thanks for reading, and if at all I don't sound like I know what I'm talking about, I probably don't. So be nice to a gearbox noob ![]()

Sady it's toast, instead of throwing it away you can send it to me.
![]() The video wasn't 100% helpful. Either sounds like the motor adjustment is to high or you got something rubbing against the gears. A lot of care has to be in mind when using a high output batt, either you were welding your contacts together, burning up the motor, wires, or putting one hell of a load on the batt. If this doesn't help - Do what I did with my brand new ics mp5. I took it apart and fell in love with the simple mp5 design. |

you may have desoldered a contact. Have you turned the motor around and tried cycling the gearbox again?
If your hearing a gear noise check your shimming first to be sure none of the gears are hanging up on each other (open it up and look for contact marks on the sides and edges of the gears), if thats all good be sure they are not shimmed too tightly, this could also cause a high pitched screetchy noise. |
