My first game was a blind fury game so it can be done. However, I would suggest you go to a couple opens first to soften the learning curve. Get out and play, meet people, learn about how the game is played and how you play. Teams will recruit you or you might form one organicaly just by playing with the same group of folks often. Airsoft is most fun when played with friends and friends can be easy to make in airsoft.

That said, if you do not have gear to go to an open don't go asking to be recruited. Any team, even the most casual group of buddies, will want you to be able to pull your own weight durring a game. If you dont have the minimum kit to play then you will be a drain on the team.

I dont mean you need thousands of dollars of high speed tacticool COD inspired junk, but rather the equiptment nessisary to shoot at people and get shot at safely. A gun, a mag or mags, some bbs, a water bottle or two, a redrag, good ANZI rated goggles, suitible clothing for running around in the woods, and sturdy footwear should get you started. For an open play you dont really need much else to start. Nothing else would be needed if you are cool with using pockets to hold your stuff. If you want a vest, look online at surplus gear, its can be really cheap and durrable if not pretty and "cool."

Sort your minimum kit and go play. As you play you will meet people, and form relationships that ultinately are the backbone of any team. You will also learn about other stuff you might need or want in you "load out". Just make sure you read the rules for the games you are attending and have a good atitude.
