Magnum Motor
Hello,
I am in the prosess of getting all the parts i need to make a MG36. My problem starts at the motor. I found the Magnum which I think is more for power wile the Turbo is for speed. What I am looking for in a motor is rapid fire but still has a minimum of 380FPS. If what I am looking for is non-exsistant please tell me. Thank you to all for your help.

ummm....first of all the motor has nothing to do with FPS mate.
And to save you and anyone else that might respond to this time, dont even think about a magnum motor if you do not have upgraded high torque gears and piston. On a side note, you need to be a lot more specific. What kind of gun do you have? What kind of motor do you currently use? Last edited by <Maverick>; 02-14-2008 at 05:58 PM. |

The magnum motor, while it is made to power heavy upgrades, it will most likely increase your rate or fire and your trigger response time. It is an awesome motor, I highly recommend it.
edit: Mav- While you most likely have had a bad experience with running a Magnum with stock parts, I have not. I've had nothing but success with magnum motors in stock or lightly upgraded (spring) Classic Army and TM guns. Last edited by Grease Man; 02-14-2008 at 06:00 PM. |

I've been in the Airsoft Industry for over 5 year, and the Magnum motors have been incredibly reliable. I've personally installed them in several different guns, including those with little or no upgrades, and generally haven't had any notable problems that I can recall.
That being said, mixing a high rate of fire with a high muzzle velocity isnt recommended. ROF and FPS is generally a tradeoff. You could make a gun that shoots 500FPS at 20 rounds per second, but it wouldn't last very long. If you're looking for excellent torque and trigger response, the Magnum is the motor to go with. Well I'm not gonna argue but I'm just trying to relay the point that depending on what gun he has, there may not (and probably won't be) a need for a magnum motor. I will just say this, there is a reason that they make systema super high-torque gears and they're not to accomodate your average EG1000.

Well the motor is going to go into a Classic Army G36. I was planing on upgrading the gears also. What I was trying to get at is If I have a 120 spring will the gun have a good ROf and decent Fps perferably over 350?
And If worse comes to worse the cost of all the stuff I'm doing to this gun will come out to just under the cost of a Ca SAW. But I would rather have a MG36. Thank you to everyone for all of your help!!

If you are unsatisfied with your rate of fire, try increasing the voltage of your battery. If you are using an 8.4, go to a 9.6v. If you are already using a 9.6, you may need a new motor, I'd go with the TM EG1000. Half the price of a magnum and work just as well with a 120 spring.

If all you're wanting to do is have a gun that shoots reliably at 385FPS and has a good rate of fire, just upgrade your spring and then use either a 9.6V or 10.8V battery. An EG1000 isn't going to make any noticable difference, so just save your money. If anything, maybe install a better piston to increase the reliability, but most of your stock components should work great. I've got a CA36 I converted to an MG36 and it's shooting about 390FPS with a Systema M120 and I think the only other thing I changed out was the piston to a stock ICS piston, and it's been incredibly reliable for the past two and a half years.
If you're wanting to go with the Magnum motor, then I think you'll do just fine without needing to upgrade your gears, but you might want to do the piston too. Darkstar out. |

I agree. The first un-upgraded part to fail would most likely be the piston. You shouldnt have to worry about the gears for some time, but if you want to prevent anything ahead of time, upgrading them to systema would ensure that they would have a significantly lower chance for chipping.
If you are looking for FPS, you might look at the following parts: 1) Air Nozzle 2) Bore Ups (Some people disagree over their effectiveness and worth) 3) Tight bore barrel 4) Spring (As you mentioned. Stock parts can take an M120 very well) Though some of these parts do not produce a significant jump, combined they can make a fair increase in FPS. Ill reinforce from above that if you are looking for ROF, try a higher battery. Hope this helped. Good Luck.

Just throwin my experience with the magnum in right here-
Ive run mine on a Hurricane M120S (Chronoed at 445 at FT3) on stock gears and an 8.4v battery with no problem whatsoever. Just gotta shim it right, and youll be good to go. The other thing that I would worry about with an MG36 is finding a god Cmag. I just got done reading some horror stories on arnies of nonfunctioning Cmags, so for me too, what are the Cmag options that work well with MG36s?

Thank you,
Well I found a Classic army C-mag and I want to see if that would be more reliable than the hero arms. I wanted to up grade the gears for safty and mabe squeeze out an extra 3 bb's a second. Also I was planning on using a 9.6v battery or a 10.8 with the new motor. I was also looking at pistons but which one would be best for this situation. Thank you to all for your help.

Well I have a CA36 with a magnum on it and I just ordered the CA C-mag/necessary parts to convert it to an MG36. I will let you know if the CA C-mag seems good or not, because that is the model I chose to try. I read all kinds of bad things about the Hero Arms one... but the CA and Star models are supposed to be much better.
As far as the magnum goes, I am running stock gears and a stock piston. I havent had a problem yet with it and on a 9.6v battery you will notice a huge difference in ROF between it and a standard CA motor. My CA36 has a PDI 150% spring with a 455mm Systema tightbore and last chronoed at 398fps. I also put one in an upgraded Echo 1 M14, it is kind of a project gun... but I found that with the magnum in it, the piston was getting worn down, so I put one in it with titanium teeth... problem solved. -In my opinion, if you shim the gears properly and put a piston in there with metal teeth... you should have a pretty reliable setup. I did order an aluminum Systema piston and some Systema gears to put in my CA36, but I wouldnt say you necessarily need to upgrade the gears. With all the extra shooting you will be doing as a support gunner, I would recommend some sort of metal toothed piston however.
