People and their insults.
So today i got into an argument with one of my friends. He every time i complain about something he responds with "cause your gay" and today i finally snapped.
Now understand i have nothing against gay people and i think they should have the choice to do whatever they want. However, i am not gay. Though yes i wear skinny jeans most of the time my hair is a little weird, (an mini afro essentially because it so curly i cant figure out what to do with it, Son of liberty if you read this, help me.) Anyways, i really don't care what people call me but it's about why.
Yes i do joke around with him a good bit, but it's always very sarcastic and always in good nature. He always takes it the wrong way and proceeds to call me gay, and a flamer etc...
Now i don't quite see why gay is always the term used against me and people like me, but it really is annoying and indecent i do believe.
Now, please discuss.

The word ‘gay’, has become to mean ‘homosexual’ in the modern era however, pre-19th century it meant ‘carefree’
Today it is morphing into another meaning that seems to mean ‘lame’ or ‘rubbish’. There is a widespread current usage of the word amongst young people.
The word 'gay' ... need not be offensive... or homophobic ... however, this new meaning is simply an example of a living language.
For the benefit of the uneducated amongst you, a living language is one that is still changing ... like English. On the other hand, a dead language is one that has ceased to change ... i.e. Latin (no new words or meanings are being added).
So, we are just keeping up with developments in English usage. In that context, your friend has just replaced the word "lame" with "gay" ...

Get a 4 on the sides and use clippers on the top. Take it down to about 2 inches and get it thinned. Get Axe Sophisticated paste and do a stylish flip with your bangs and slightly tussle the top around. Hope that helps!

Kawaii: Context is created by the situation. You can't have one single context for a word, that would be impossible. Whiterook is right. While gay can mean "homosexual" when used in "context", it can also mean in another completely seperate context "lame".

I thought the word gay quite being used as an insult a few years ago, or maybe it was just used by high schoolers around here and I just now realized that more mature people don't use it as an insult?

Its kind of like that South Park episode, where the kids use the word "fag" to describe Harley riders. They weren't saying they were gay, but that they were just annoying.
Also, fun fact: The reason Latin is used for the genome and species of plants and animal is because it is a dead, static language.
