I was wondering, and, correct me if I am wrong, but the moderators lock threads that are inappropriate because they take up space. The point to locking threads is to save space on the site, correct?

Well, I was thinking that if a thread was deleted completly, instead of locked, wouldn't it save more space (and make the forums look tidier, instead of having inaccessable posts everywhere).

My humble advice is that if a moderator finds a thread inappropriate, they should SEND A NOTICE TO THE AUTHOR TO PERMANTELY DELETE THAT POST, or it will be locked the next day. IF THAT PERSON DOES NOT DELETE HIS/HER POST WHEN ASKED TO DO SO BY A MODERATOR, THAT PERSON WILL RECEIVE A STRIKE, AND THEN THE THREAD WILL BE LOCKED.

Would this be a thought for the moderators to consider???

The reason I didn't delete your thread, BW, is because I wanted to make sure you'd seen it before I deleted it. Because it's in the wrong section and you've already reposted elsewhere, I'm going to go ahead and delete it. I don't think it's necessary to punish you for not doing something we could do for you just as easily and with less fuss.

No, you misunderstood...I wasn't taking out any frustration on you by posting this...forgive and forget...it's in the past...I was just thinking it'd be easier to delete posts instead of lock them...

I'm sort of new to this site so i don't know how everything works...i thought that if you lock a thread it can't be deleted, and it stays here forever...taking up space...so i figured having them delete it would save that space altogether...

But i didn't know the moderators can delete them...so if you can then...yeah...i learned something new today:p jus tryin to help out

It's cool, dude. Seriously. You can always PM me if you have questions. If I don't know the answers, I generally have a 'pipeline' (hehe, I said "pipeline"...) to someone who does, even if he hates it when I ask questions. ;)

Threads take up very little space on the server. Pictures are what really eat up space. Also threads are generally only locked to prevent further conversation (ex. when a flame war breaks out, when threads go off topic, or if something is posted in the wrong spot.). Locking a thread doesn't save any space.

No, i disagree. By locking a thread, people can no longer post pointless off-topic pics or remarks, which thusly, SAVE SPACE.

Pictures take up to 1MB of storage each. And with roughly 2000 pics in the gallery, you can see where alot of forum resources can go. That doesn't count the pictures/files uploaded in posts on the forum, using the "attach file" feature.
