Overview:
Two months have passed since US forces apprehended Abu Musafara in the small central African nation of Antoga. A known terrorist and enemy of the state, Musafara was also a key figure head in a violent central African drug trade organization whose base of operations stemmed from within the tiny African nation's borders.
Since his capture, Musafara’s organization, including his top deputies, have gone underground and all but disappeared from the US radar screens. Because of their long relationship however, these individuals are still believed to be hiding out in Antoga, supported by the Antoga Rebel Authority. Amidst all this, US forces now find themselves fighting a violent and brutal guerilla war in Antoga against the rebels and elements of what's believed to be remnants of Musafara's organization.
International discussions within the UN Security Council over the situation in Antoga have been heated and highly debated. At the onset, opponents criticized the US when covert operations in Antoga became known. However, recent actions on the part of the Antoga Rebel Authority have provided the US with support from several other nations with the intent to restore order and the diplomatic regime that once governed there.
The US along with its allies are now tasked with restoring order and bringing the diplomatic government back to power in Antoga. UN Security Council Resolution 2094 has authorized a US coalition led force to oust the ARA from power and provide temporary security to the people and the nation of Antoga.
Can the Antoga Rebels maintain control and their position? –OR- Will the US led coalition seize control and restore diplomatic order to the country? … All will be answered on June 3rd 2006 when these forces collide once again at Operation: SAFARI STRIKE! 2
Don't miss out!

The rules will be roughly the same, just be sure to keep checking for the event site to go live. I really don't see any change on the age limit due to liability and insurance issues.

Last year including all participants, we had just about 100 players. This year, we hope to see more faces, hopefully 150 players. As for the acreage, Pinnacle Woods is showing it as 105 acres, which can comfortably accomadate a large op.
Stay tuned, more details to come very shortly.

youre really not making younger players look better either...
anyways, how much of the field on the arial photo can we play on? any way you could box out the borders? i was assuming that it was only the open areas, but i wasnt sure if we could play in the wooded parts too.

strikers_blade
01-23-2006, 01:49 PM
Snowman, Please read the top of this page and the bottom of the first page, it will give you the answer.
Beside, could you please not use the word "retarded? because to me (sorry I am learning english), this word means someone or something that can't keep up with their equivalent. For example, someone retarded is someone that is mentally challenged and will most likely not be as smart as someone with the same age. Another example is someone using oil lamp in his house (not by choice). you could say his lightning system is retarded. So in your case, the information was given already and you did not read it. So basically saying that if I apply what I said above, you would be the retarded, not the event itself... :p
note: Just messing with you here.

From the roster and what I assume is team colors it looks reversed. (?)
Scorpion
01-26-2006, 12:58 PM
No that is correct, all US forces use Tan(chocolate-chip, 3 color, DESPAT, Desert DPM ect.) and all rebel use green(MARPAT, woodland, cadpat, DPM, tigerstipe, OD ect.)
Most of the NPC(Team TAC) had blue, black and white civilian contractor clothes on for the first one.

Will there be night play?

It will be the first 100 who complete registration. Here's a quote from the event website:
Note: You are not considered completely registered until you have paid.
So I guess to answer your question, the first 100 players that are paid in full will receive the hat.

Only the Airsoft Hand Grenades are allowed. I'm talking about the water, citric acid, and baking soda grenades. Here's a picture of what I am refering to:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v634/nextmayor/OPSS%202/AHG.jpg
No pyro devices will be permitted, except for cold burning, pull ring smoke grenades. Anyone caught using any other pyro devices or anyting with an exposed burning fuse, will be expelled from the event with no refund.

Even if there were a night mission, ROAD FLARE WOULD NOT BE PERMITTED.

We're not really that far into the details yet. We're still working out the mission details. Once we get the missions set, we'll get a schedule posted on the event website.
I could be wrong but I think the missions ended between 5:00 and 6:00 PM last year and then we had the raffle.

IF registration keeps going at this pace, we will have to cap the number of players. Registration opened 1 week ago (10:30 PM, January 24) and we're already at 170 players signed up. 30 of those 170 are already paid in full.
We're still looking at the field to see what we think the maximum number of players would be. IF we need to cap attendance, figure it being capped between 150 and 200 players. We just need to get the missions figured out and see what the best number of players would be.

One question regarding uniforms that I cant seem to find an answer to anywhere (correct me if I overlooked it).
Can members of the US team wear green gear, or must their gear also fit the brown uniform regulation?
Thanks for your help.
nextmayor

Only the uniforms are regulated at this event. US must wear TAN BDU's and the Antoga must wear GREEN BDU's. In regard to gear, use what ever you want, as long as your BDU's meet the above stated requirement. FYI, I don't think we've ever had that question (seriously) before, thanks for asking

And dont think that wearing Tan gear on a Green based BDU will make others think your a US guy, or vice versa.
I recall a big fuss about gear color prior to Irene and once there it wasnt even an issue.

I've been to all 3 Irene's and do not recall John Lu, the organizer ever having an issue with gear color. Team TAC has been to a lot of events and in our opinion, as long as you are wearing a full set of TAN (US) or GREEN (Rebel) BDU's, the IFF issue is not a factor.
So, once again here it is.
US / Coalition Force - ANY TAN BASED BDU'S WITH ANY COLOR GEAR. ACU and MultiCam also permitted.
Antoga Rebel Authority - ANY GREEN BASED BDU'S WITH ANY COLOR GEAR.

Delta members were yelling at their team to not wear tan gear and Charlie guys were telling us not to wear green gear.

To reiterate what NextMayor said, John Lu events (using him since he is the one making the biggest event so far) have the BDU/TOP requirement only. Meaning that BDU and head cover have to be color specific for each team.
So for Woodland BDU, you are not allowed to wear TAN cap...and vice versa.....

Hmm, seeing the amount of people that have signed up and the expanded player limit actually has me re-considering whether or not I want to go to this event. I went last year, and I think there were 90-some players at the game. I have to question whether or not the field is going to be able to handle a 175 player limit or whatever you said the cap is in the email. With over 200 registered, this game is starting to unfortunately lose its appeal to me :( There were times at the game last year where too many people were in one area, and it just became a spam fest. And like I said above, that was with just 90 players. It was already easy enough to get bogged down in certain areas, and I fear it will get worse with more players. :(

Violator,
Last year with the way the missions were designed, the player count, and how the forces decided to conduct their operations, less than half of the field was basically used. The field has hosted 200 players in it's history and this year we have tested and re-tested our missions and designed them around the target number of players we are expecting. Was there a choke point at the field last year? Undoubtably yes. This was the case due to many factors however, including the mission objectives and ultimately the tactics employed by both sides.
This year with the expected player count, all of these factors have been carefully scrutinized and taken in to consideration. This is how we arrived at our target number, achieving what we want to do, without over-saturating the field. Last year I remember walking over a LOT of ground from the US HQ all the way up to the pond that was NOT being used. In addition on the "Rebel" side, there was also a LOT of ground that wasn't being used. Again, this year, everything is being designed for the numbers we are expecting. Careful consideration went in to designing missions which would maximize the use of this entire field, and we are CONFIDENT about what we have done.
Violator, I have talked to EROCK myself about the event. The problem last year have been adressed. The owner was made aware and after the good conduct and safe play has allowed the whole field to be used. Remember it was a paintball they have never seen a milsim event so hindsight is 20/20. Don't jump to conclusions about what it will be like. Just ask the event holders instead of printing negative feedback before you find out the problems have been addressed. If you don't want to go don't, no need to tell the world!
I don't feel violators comments were meant to be negative. He only said what i heard even tac guys say last year. It is a legit concern.
In the same light i know that the problem of choking at the horse shoe middle will be resolved. tac has had plenty of time to think about the issue, which i know they are well aware. Nextmayor is all toooo correct. Except i think we only really used 20% of the field.
I think the added players will bust things up.
And if those things still don't work... fight harder is how i feel.

Agreed 100% with John, Xray, and Nextmayor...
Last year, there was a choke point only because everybody crammed into that area (by the pond). However there was plenty of space to move into US and Rebel territory by going around the pond. We did it all day long, in fact I only recall being involved in a single battle near the pond. The fastest way isn't always the best way :)
That choke-point was only an issue because nobody made any attempts to go "the long way" to get to the bad guys.
You don't need a 250 acre field for 200 players, and I for one, am happy that I won't have to walk up huge hills all day :)

Xray, my concerns are legitimate. They are not meant to be inflammatory in any way...I recall several chokepoints in the game last year, which is why I mentioned this (I was there, I think I'm entitled to ask questions or raise points that I think are valid, so thanks for your "concern" and comments   ).
I was expecting nextmayor to bring up the point of alot of the field not being used last year. This may be true...but if the entire field was being used by hordes of players, I'm not sure the scenario would be much fun at all - you have to have breathing space, areas in which you can move a squad. With an entire field of players, this could be impossible. Also, I don't feel that all areas were suitable for play last year. You might recall that a substantial amount of "open area" on the US side had ropes designed to simulate grids on the map. While I believe this was a good attempt for navigational use, it was restrictive to gameplay - you just couldn't move fast without tripping over ropes. Again, not criticizing, just providing reasons for my concern. I'm not posting here to spew useless garbage, so people who see it that way need to keep their clams shut
nextmayor - thanks for posting and addressing some concerns. How many staffers will you have in the field? Last year I remember you as the only one really walking around with a orange vest keeping an eye on the game. Other TAC members were taking part in the NPC/prop rolls, which is certainly understandable. I could also be wrong about you being the only one with orange on - it was just memorable probably because you took more hits than anyone else.
The ropes may cause problems to those vision impared. But as far as the game being bogged down in certain areas... I know there were ways around last year. I saw it happen. I really feel this issue needs to be addressed by the commanders more than the staff. The players decide whether they get bogged down.
I saw at least 5-6 tag guys throughout the the day in orange. Alot more were in game refs. Seems they have enough staff signed up for me.

The ropes are there because the field is cut up into 10-12 different fields for paintball, TAC did not put them there, and they were not there as "grids".
Very little of the field was used. I used to play paintball at pinnacle every week before I found airsoft, including several "scenario" games using the whole field with 160+ players. These games were nowhere near as organized as an airsoft event is, and the field was not even close to saturated.
In my extensive experience on this field the ropes have never been a safety issue. You either go over them or under them.
The missions this year will make it impossible for a team to win without using much, much more of the field. That is all I can tell you now.
If you choose not to come to our event that is cool with me. Our games are not for everyone. That is why there are so many different styles of play, because everyone has their own preferences. That is what I like about this country. Choices.
PS, there were 12 TAC guys on or near the field throughout last year's event. Even role players are "referees". If you have problem, let us know.

We're already aware of this, but the only real choke point that TAC saw was the area by the 2 story structure. As mentioned before, we're taking steps to decrease the improtance of that area. Additionally, while the woods were thick, there was a lot of area to the north of the two story structure that did not get utilized. On several occassions, prior to OPSS 1, TAC made a point of walking the WHOLE field, plotting locations, and testing the the missions. There were several ways to get around the choke point in the woods to the north. Due to the heat of combat and the choices made by the commanders last year, this area became a bottle neck. There were other ways around the choke point that just didn't get utilized.

Even if the numbers of players at OPSS 2 doubles that of OPSS 1, the field is still more than large enough to accomodate them. Pinnacle woods advertised it's field as 105 acres. Say you round that down to 100 acres and figure 200 players at OPSS 2. Even then, you're still only looking at 2 players per acre. Sounds pretty spacious to me.
As you mentioned, you saw me walking all over the field. I can personally attest to the fact the OPSS 1 was fought mainly around the "choke point" that you mentioned above and in the area immediately around it. Very little action was seen in the extreme northern end of the field or the extreme southern end of the field. TAC members have played in large 200 player events at this field and are confident that it can support the numbers that we expect for OPSS 2.

The ropes had absolutely NOTHING to do with land nav or anything related to OPSS 1. This was explained prior to the event, at the general briefing. These ropes are the sub field boundries for when Pinnacle Woods hosts smaller games not utilizing the whole field. We're aware of this issue too and are trying to address it, but it all depends on Pinnacle Woods.
In regard to your tripping issues, I'm very sorry to hear about that, but having obstructions like that in the field COULD also happen in real life. Fences, walls, debris, and other obstructions could all be encountered while operating in real life. We'll do what we can about the ropes and few area where the was some confusion.

There will be 13 TAC guys at OPSS 2. No mater what their duties, ALL TAC members keep an eye on what's going on, enforce the rules, and just make sure everything is run safely. Even if a TAC member does not have an orange vest on, doesn't mean, he's not keeping an eye on the game.

If I remember correctly, ALL of Team TAC was in the field at OPSS 1. We had guys dedicated to the US Force and guys dedicated to the Rebel Force. To keep these guys a little less conspicuous, they were not wearing orange vest. However, all of the TAC guys were at least wearing a Team TAC ball cap, team patch, or other indicators denoting they were part of the host team. IMO, OPSS 1 had very few issues. Those that were witnessed, were addressed immediately by Team TAC.

These guys were still keeping an eye on the game and I know that several talked to players about questionable actions or accusations. All of Team TAC works as a ref no mater what role they have at the event or what they are wearing.

I was being both a ref and a photographer last year, so that is why you mainly saw me. I tried to go where ever the action was and get pictures. Other guys were out there too, just not in the same capacity as me. As for getting shot a lot, I did. I found the best location for taking pictures was in the middle of two opposing forces. It's very difficult to take pictures at an event with out giving away a players location, so in the middle it was. This year, I'd appreciate you guys not shooting me so much. ;)
Another question that I just want to make sure is verified:
Is there a limit to the number of SAW's one side can have?
I know there is the limit as to the type of weapons that can be considered a SAW, but nowhere in the signup did it actually make mention to who all would be a squad gunner vs. basic rifleman. Just wanted to make sure I could use the 249 when I got there.
Thanks.

To begin with, do you ask all event orgainizers where the money goes? Do you think anyone has asked John Lu (organizer of Op: Lion Claws and Irene) how his money is spent (except for OPI 1 with the scholarship fund)?
A lot of time and effort goes into planning an op of this scale. FYI, OPSS 2 is held at a commercial paintball field. With that said, the vast majority of the money goes to pay the field rental. Other obvious expenses such as the shirt that all attendees receive as well as props, costumes, and other supplies are paid for by registration fees. Is that complete enough for you?
Just curious, how did you spend your paycheck last month? :D LOL

I don't think anyone is being forced to come to Safari Strike 2. If $45 dollars is more than you want to pay, don't. As a matter of fact this is $5 cheaper than last year's price.
The game is well worth the price, and I wish I could play rather than host this game. We are not making money off this, but I'm sure not going to LOSE money because someone thinks $45 is too much.
And I disagree, you really are complaining.

Team TAC puts on the best ops in Ohio period. None of them need the money. Keep in mind they have to pay for the use of the site, the t-shirts and I'm sure some of the raffle prizes weren't free. I'd pay much more to attend a TAC op, because I know how much work they put into it and the events are always top-notch.
Bottom line, these guys turn their guts out to make the best milsim ops. Props, role-players, milsim atmosphere and objectives. It's all there at a Team TAC op. They rival John Lu's op series and even surpass them in many ways. Raffles are huge and everyone usually wins something. My point is, these guys are going out of their way to plan for and provide the best op of the year. I, for one, am grateful they continue to organize ops every year, because without their contribution to airsoft in Ohio we would definitely be lacking.
Here's to Team TAC. Hooah!
As for the bottleneck problem of last year... Even the best planning can't account for everything. I was there. I saw what happened and why. If anything, the decisions made by both CO's were the determining factors of the bottleneck, not the ropes or TAC's organization. Antoga had to move all over their half of the field to achieve their objectives. They met little-to-no resistance, which is why the objectives were met way before end of day. I don't blame TAC at all for the bottleneck problem. What I saw was US forces trying to assault via one avenue and Antoga fending them off successfully.
This year should be different as I assume TAC is going to spread objectives all over the playing field. It should make for some interesting gameplay. Last year is in the past. TAC knows what they're doing. Lets give them the benefit of the doubt and wait to see what happens. I've been to all of their ops and I have zero complaints.

Don't worry man...
Almost anytime someone holds an event, there's usually at least one person thats never invested the time, effort, or expense into holding an event themselves, with the same old question "What are you doing with the money."
I guess I can see how it wouldn't sound offensive unless you have actually organized an event. Did you attend last years Safari Strike? Erock took me in the back and showed me the props they purchased for the game, which included literally hundreds of pounds of multicolored african currency that they had printed up, and packaged in bricks, a similar amount of powdered sugar cocaine, all packaged up into neat little "drug bags, a very slick-looking shoulder fired missile launcher, and much more. All that stuff costs money. As Freth said, none of the guys on TAC are doing this for the money, they put events like this on, in the hopes that someone else puts on similar events that they can actually attend, and play at, instead of organize, and watch everyone else have fun. It's frustrating, trust me.
It's worse when someone questions where the money goes. To be perfectly blunt, it's nobody's freaking business where the money goes so long as you have a good time, and walk away from the event grinning, exhausted, and counting the days till next years event.
Don't take this as some kind of butt-kissing for TAC, I've known those guys for years, and the last thing they wanna do is try to get rich off Airsoft..

No hard feelings at all, I think some of the guys that have posted sum it up pretty nicely. The event's still 4 months away and we've already got countless hours into it. Additionally as was said before, every couple of years someone asks an organizer where the money goes and after all the work we do, it can get a little frustrating. In hind sight, maybe you weren't asking how we spend the money, but what needs to be purchased for a big event. TAC's already done with issues, and does not harbor any ill will towards you.
In the end, no hard feelings at all. I've talked to at least one other guy on your team, and TAC is happy that airsoft is growing in the Cleveland area. You guys are more than welcome to attend, and we're glad to have you. If you need anything, drop me an email or PM and we'll talk.
Additionally, I just wanted to say that your follow up post showed a lot of maturity and class. I'm sure you'll fit right in at this event. Looking forward to seeing you and the other BEAST members on June 3rd. As I said, if you've got any other questions, just PM me.

Also, after helping out with the 08th's OP back in November, we didnt really take in much cash in terms of profit. After all the prop purchases, time, field fees, and what not, we were only taking in pennies on the dollar.
From what I understand we tried to mimic TAC's abil;ity to run an event, and doing so takes cash. Regardless, if you have a problem paying the $45 bones to play, then one of the other 50 people behind you in line will gladly push you outta the way so they can get in.

Registration for this event has been closed since February. Don't feel bad, I also missed the cut off date.

Update - 5/3/06
Troops,
With just 30 days until deployment, battle plans are being drawn up and worked through, units are preparing and training for battle and EXCITEMENT and ANTICIPATION levels are building! … As we move even closer to deployment, we’d like to take this time to review a few items with all players.
1. If you haven’t already done so, ALL teams and/or individuals on the active duty roster must visit their force private forums for roll call and to receive and stay abreast of additional force specific information and/or instructions. As previously noted in this thread, please follow the proper procedures for gaining access to your force private forums.
2. ALL players on the active duty roster should’ve received the Player Registration Kit via email. This kit contains general event rules and information. It is MANDATORY each player review and understands ALL information contained in this document. Remember, NOT KNOWING the rules or NOT FOLLOWING procedure will NOT be an excuse day of event. Note: A copy of the Player Kit can also be downloaded from your force private forum.
3. Be sure to PRINT out and COMPLETE in advance the APPROPRIATE waiver and have it ready to turn in at time of check-in. Waivers can be found in the Player Kit or can be downloaded from the 'INTEL' (http://www.airsoftcleveland.com/event_intel.htm) page.
Players 18 years of age or older… You must complete in advance of arrival the “ADULT” waiver and have it ready to turn in at time of check-in.
Players UNDER the age of 18… If your PARENT (NOT your brother, sister or friend) will not be with you day of event, you’ll need to print out and complete the “MINOR” waiver and have it NOTARIZED by a notary public. Without a properly completed and notarized waiver, players under the age of 18 will NOT be permitted to play and will NOT receive a refund. NO EXCEPTIONS will be made.
4. Re: FRIDAY on site camping… If you are camping on site FRIDAY, be sure to review ALL camping rules and regulation as listed in the Player Kit and on the 'INTEL' (http://www.airsoftcleveland.com/event_intel.htm) page. In addition, be sure to schedule your arrival within the gate access times listed. Once the gates close, they close. No admittance beyond the access times will be permitted. ALL other players, as listed in the Player Kit and on the 'INTEL' (http://www.airsoftcleveland.com/event_intel.htm) page, gates open at 0700 hrs day of event. Please plan your arrivals accordingly.
Remember, your cooperation with ALL event rules and regulations are not only requested, they are required. If you have any questions, or need further clarification on any items, you may post questions for the staff on the OPSS2 forums or contact us via safaristrike@airsoftcleveland.com.

What's your call sign for the event, I'm not recognizing LeafNinja. If you're already registered and paid for OPSS 2 (which is sold out) you can find all the info you're looking for in the private forums for whatever force you'll be playing on.
