A listing of the "newb" questions area. Things that people generally don't know when coming into the airsoft arena. Like body armor or not. Ear protectors? Full face vs. goggles and any other recommendations for a new player. Maybe -good bb brands, websites/stores/companies to avoid things like that. I don't mind helping with the creation of this, I am a firm believer that you shouldn't make a suggestion without a plausible means of execution or willingness to assist. But I feel that this would be a great addition to the site.

like a sticky where everyone can give a newb tip?
or how bout making the search button bigger and flash brighter and attaching a wav file to it so it screams "Please click me, please!!!"

I think it would make it easier for people to be able to read one thing, that has basic tips that maybe people wont think to search for. It would maybe yield something for you above reproach people that have been playing awhile. Perhaps a tip that someone might know though they have been playing awhile. On other boards that i belong to no matter what topic, if it involves a game or sport there is a basic tip area.

Yeah, now that I think about it, every time I use the search button all I get are 50 pages of crap about how "the super 9 is aweshum" and "I made a GReenade with duct tape n bakin soda giosh itz aweshum booom" or a bunch of threads with posts telling people to use the search button

I think it would make the quality of information higher. And would be fairly easy to accomplish. Yes a sticky would be good, but might take a lot of work to keep updated. A newb board or whatever would be easy. Anyone could make a suggestion. Not really looking for discusions, but more of a thing that tells people the pros and cons of full face vs. goggles, and maybe a poll of how many people use face vs. goggles. And the same for body armor. Who does, who doesn't, what type of event might yield an advantage to wearing it. Like not just prevent injury, but also maybe a battlefield aspect. And a good thing would be what brands to avoid for the serious airsofter. Like maybe cyma and stinger guns or something. Mainly those aren't powerful enough or upgradable. Perhaps a little reference stuff.
The problem is, most newbs don't take the time to familiarize themselves with the site or with actually looking for topics. Instead, they post 40-50 repetitive topics. I mean, in one month, you, alone have posted 50+ posts. Our latest crop of new members have 50-150 posts in less than 2-3 months.
Even if they can't find what they are looking for using the search engine, that doesn't keep them from simply scrolling through the various sections to look for what they want to find.
If you have enough information to know that the gun you are looking for is an electric gun, you automatically can narrow it down to 2 sections. Now if more of the new members would actually post in the correct sections, they would make that search even easier.
As far as looking in "one thing with tips" that is what the Newbie Faq is for. You have read it, right?
Here's a basic tip for you - Just because all of the other boards have something, doesn't necessarily mean that all the rest should have it. You visit other forums, great. That's the best tip any of us can give you - visit other forums.
More Forums = More Points of view = more help = more information = more better-er-est.

And then maybe after we make that, we can make a n00b neutralizer that IP bans all n00bs who don't use SPELL CHECK!
Yeesh.
Is it so hard to write "enough" that you have to write "enuff", also is it so hard to write"whatever" that you have to write "w/e"?????
C'mon.
I guess they just don't make 'em like they used to :D

Is it so complicated and heart breaking to read my posts when I type things shorthand? I feel that perhaps if it is so strenuos to read it, that a post criticizing it may put you over the edge.

Would that include you? There are quite a few spelling mistakes in your signature line. I guess the IP ban is the only answer, noob.

I understand that just because one forum has something that not all do. But the reason many have that is to make life easier. I have been here a short time and made several posts. I am active in my persuit of knowledge and am seeking guidance from those here before me. I have received much criticism and little help without critism. I joined this board to learn. As others have. And perhaps those posts that are so redundant and share a place of hatred in your heart may be eliminated, or at least minimized to a certain degree. It was a thought and a suggestion. And i have seen it work. Perhaps on here it wouldn't. A new member is not welcomed here, but rather is scorned for posting 'too much'. *as shown several times* I apologize and revoke my suggestion. Apparently it is not well recieved.
And how dare you call me lazy! I work for a living and am a member of the United States Air Force. How does that make me lazy? Just because I don't type with perfect grammar do not insult me!

First off, the community highly encourages you to familiarize yourslef with the forums and site features. This is a message boards - an archives of questions and answers. That being said, it is in your best interest to go through the archived posts to look for answers.
As you have indicated that you are a new airsofter, it would be in your best interest to read the Newbie FAQ as it contains the most commonly-asked general questions about airsoft.
Secondly, we have a review section with several well-written reviews on several different airsoft guns.
Thirdly, we have sections dedicated to general questions about different types of airsoft guns and equipment. These section contain information regarding performance, accessories, upgrades, and other issues deemed important.
Finally, we have sections dedicated to troubleshooting the different types of airsoft guns. These threads deal with specific issues and techniques to keep your airsoft gun running and/or to help you fix specific problems.
This forums is not a Message Service. Some thread may never be answered, others may not be posted in such a way that anyone understands what is being said or asked. With that in mind, it is in your best interest to check your spelling, sentence structure, and insure that people can and will understand what you are trying to say.
Shorthand may be acceptable elsewhere, but it is not here. If you can't spell the entire word out, then use a synonym or spell check. If you still can't spell it, don't use the word.
i have been here a short time and made several posts. i am active in my persuit of knowledge and am seeking guidance from those here b4 me. i have recieved much criticism and little help w/out critism.
Welcome to Airsoft Ohio. Be active in your pursuit of knowledge by spending the vast majority of your time here sifting through previously-posted threads to look for what you are looking for. If you would like to be taken more seriously, take the time to properly format your questions.
If you are having trouble with members being overly critical, then please point the criticisms out and "admin and mods" will personally deal with these people. At the same time, you are far better served by taking the time to read the old threads on this board than posting questions.
i joind this board to learn. as others have. and perhaps those posts that are so redundant and share a place of hatred in your heart may be eliminated or at least minimized to a certain degree.
Very well. Then take the time to learn. Many questions take time to learn from experience. Many of them are best answered through experience. It is difficult for people to sum up combined experiences to answer so general a question. Often it takes further experience simply to sum up that experience to give a specific answer.
Redundant questions are a waste of forum resources. Basic questions about airsoft can be answered by reading through old posts. Again, experience will enlighten you as to why answering repetitive topics is so annoying.
it was a thought and a suggestion. and i have seen it work. perhaps on here it wouldnt.
It might work here, but it would be just one more section for people to post repetitive and redundant threads, requiring more moderating resources.
a new member is not welcomed here but rather is scourned for posting 'too much'. *as shown several times* i apologize and revoke my suggestion. apparently it is not well recieved.
WOuld you like a little help with that cross, there? I love it when new members automatically assume that they are not welcomed just because they are asked to use the search button. If you are on your quest for knowledge, you should begin that quest by doing research. I have already given you tips on where you can look. Now spend less time posting questions and more looking for them. If you look, you will find, with experience, that most basic questions are answered.
and how dare you call me lazy! i work for a living and am a member of the United States Air Force. How does that make me lazy? just because i don't type with perfect grammar do not insult me!
Finally, you are trying to argue with a member whose profile suggests he is 13 years old. No matter how effective you argrument, you will ultimately lose. Laziness in forums ettiquette does not automatically make you a loser in life. This is a Hobbyist Forums, not real life.
I believe the better question would be, as a member of the Air Force, why would you assume people thought you were a lazy person, based simply on your member status and posting habits on an online message boards?

I do appreciate the welcome and individual breakdown. I do not appreciate the reference to christ as i do not see how i paralleled myself with him. As a whole it is made popular to criticise new people to use the search button. I don't feel singled out. I see that trend with many new member's posts. i do however give up and realize that no matter how easy i think that new thread would make things...it will not be adopted. And moderator resources shouldn't be that thin spread. I said that i would step up and help with this. I know that others would be willing to help as well. Che-gregory has offered good criticism as has master_titled. Some members seem to be more open and tolerant of new members. It seems that i have found those who are not. And i have searched many backloged posts and typically find very little information on what i want. That is why i ask. The faq's are a general generic-where to start listing. Helpful, however do not contain many of the things that i was interested in. I would appreciate this being locked/deleted, as it shows that there is no interest. I feel that it is being drawn out now.

Sorry that I didnt make my sarcasim on the IP bans more apparent. Often times sarcasm is lost in text. And also, sorry for that before I should'nt have "gone off".

Maybe a period of say 10 or so days where a new person has a limited post ability (say 20 posts), and the inablility to start say over 2 threads.
just a suggestion.

That would work, but in that case i would probably not have stayed with the boards. I am a bit active in boards, and questions. This is known. But i think that maybe that would really deter new members, since they may use post #20 and then find something that they really want to contribute to, and simply can't. It is a good idea, but perhaps those numbers are low. the 20 post in 10 days thing. ok that i can see, but 2 thread max would really suck.

The reason most people are against this is because we already have a noob FAQ, and a search button, and nobody uses them (you included). Everyone just comes in here and complains about how they can't find things, instead of actually looking for them. I went though a few of your previous questions, and then put them in the search engine to see what would come up:
You asked whether grenades had been thought up:

http://www.airsoftohio.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=6171&highlight=grenades

Then you asked if AO rules make any considerations for body armor: This could've been easily answered by reading the RULES!
Then you asked about hopup, which could've easily been answered by typing: "Theory of hopup" in google.
http://www.airsoftarena.com/hopup.htm
Then you asked about UTG MP5s:
http://www.airsoftohio.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=8095&highlight=utg+mp5
http://www.airsoftohio.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=8327&highlight=utg+mp5

http://www.airsoftohio.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=8958&highlight=utg+mp5
Then you asked about CYMA guns:
http://www.airsoftohio.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=8202&highlight=cyma
http://www.airsoftohio.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=5955&highlight=cyma
Then you put up a poll asking about opinions about the Super 9(which is actually against the rules to begin with):
Then you asked about Super 9s:
http://www.airsoftohio.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2811&highlight=super9
http://www.airsoftohio.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=5331&highlight=super9

http://www.airsoftohio.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=8526&highlight=super9
http://www.airsoftohio.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=8769&highlight=super9
I would post more of your questions, and the answers that went along with them, but I think you see the point.
I don't know about the rest of AO, but I help those that help themselves.
