For smaller numbers, a pathfinder scenario could be interesting. THe job of the pathfinders was to insert into an area and map out a potential landing zone for paratroopers.

The job can be done with 3-4 pathfinders. Simply mark an area with approved objects of some sort and exfiltrate the area. The object is of course NOT to get caught. The Pathfinders must of course be outnumbered or the OPFOR must have infinite or near infinite reinforcement.

The Pathfinders can use medic rules or even Ultra Realistic rules.

For a combat engineer scenario, the playing area must have some obstacles which are movable without an excessive amount of effort. A downed tree or heavy brush across an access road is all you need. The engineers are responsible for clearing the obstacle(s). Once they do so, they receive reinforcements BUT UNTIL A PATH IS CLEARED through the obstacle(s), the engineers are on their own.

The term Pathfinders is a little dated, true. I think they are called Combat Air Controllers now or Combat Weathermen. They have to know all kinds of info about the drop zone, map it out etc.
