View Full Version : Test Trial at "Swingset's Jungle", July 31 (THIS Sunday)

07-25-2005, 09:21 PM
Hi all,

I have recently obtained approval to use a field north of Grandville (5.5 miles south of intersection of SR-62 and SR-661, 25 miles from the Airsoft Arms Columbus Store, or about 40-60 minutes from Columbus depends on which part of town). This private field is about 40-50 acres of wood (about twice the size of Jewtiful's field, or half of Springfield's Hidden Spring), with some open areas. Currently MOST of the field is HEAVILY wooded, that we have trail access to only about 20% of the field. But if all goes well I will have permission to mow and cut out additional trails and clear up more open areas "any way I want", as well as potential access to his brother's side of the property which makes it almost 100 acres. The field has small rolling hills but not as punishing as Springfield, but enough to conceal troops. So I see great potential of this field.

Initial discussion with the field owner (actually a friend of mine) indicated that field fee is likely to be around $15, which will includes all the props and organizations, etc. But for this weekend, since its a "trial run", its only going to be "$5 donation" per person to cover his incidental expenses.

In addition, the purpose of this weekend's game is to give him a feel of the potential impact of airsoft to his field and family (he lives there), as well as obtain feedback from the community on how we can continue to improve the field. Obviously I would like to leave him a good impression that we are not going to trash his property playing airsoft, which I don't think will be a problem. I also want to show him some good, solid organization that we at Airsoft Ohio is capable of doing.

I know this is a short notice, and that Op. NW-II and the Red Dragon game are both running next week so chances are most players are already committed to these other events. But I am only looking for about 15-20 players - no experience required, as long as you cooperate with me in showing positive behavior. Game will start on Sunday 10:30am, run until everyone decided to quit. You are welcome to join in half way in the afternoon. Games will also be scenario driven, but the scenarios will be very simple (escort, bomb hunt, etc.)

Please response to this thread if you (and/or your teammates) can come. If I secure enough interest I will confirm the event with him and post detail direction. Either case, I will announce the detail no later then Friday afternoon. Thanks for your support!

07-26-2005, 11:12 PM
ive got me and and 4 others that will show but we definatly need an address

07-27-2005, 01:55 AM
I don't have the field's address... otherwise I would've posted it already. I am just surprised most people can't figure out whre Grandville is... I guess its too small of a city... I will see what I can find out.

07-27-2005, 01:59 AM
I went through Yahoo! Maps, and this is approximate where the field's entrance is:

NOTE::: The street address shown on the Yahoo! Map is NOT necessary the actual address... I still have no idea what it is. I just point-and-clicked the closest location on MapPoint based on my memory (I drove there a few times) and it gave me that address. So I used that address on Yahoo! Map and it gave me something pretty close... which, I'd say, for now its close enough.

Also I checked for direction on Yahoo! Maps, looks like 2 hours 20 min. from either Cincinnati or Cleveland, about 1 hour 40 minutes from Enon / Springfield. I will post detail directions later.

07-27-2005, 10:58 AM
Couldn't you just call your friend and ask him? Ill need to know the exact address.

07-27-2005, 12:33 PM
granville is pretty small....my grandparents grew up there... isnt like dennison college up near there?? I think i visited that place.i cant make it ill be in florida but i was trying to give everyone a round about location....

07-27-2005, 01:28 PM
I'll see if I can make it, if dreamer will take me. and only if he shaves, lol

07-27-2005, 03:03 PM
I drive that way pretty often and there isn't far between the tree farm and the next intersection. If he just put a balloon or something on the box it should be findable. If you have a name of the person or phone number you could do a reverse lookup and get the address.

If you're coming from the west on 661 you'll be going 55mph for most of it, you'll come upon fredonia and it'll drop to 45mph and in between the speed drop and the big tree farm looks to be the place. There isn't any fast food within 15 minutes so I'd probably pack something to eat.

While I'm still trying to get Wallace to post the address to the field on here, the best way to get directions would likely be to Private Message him with your intent to attend this test game and he will probably send you the address.

It is fairly easy to get to. If you look at a map of Columbus, Ohio, you will take Route 161 East until you get to Granville. Take Lancaster Road/South Main Street north into the center of Granville. Turn right on Broadway, and then make a left onto North Pearl Street (Route 661).

Since I will be there with the Airsoft Arms truck, I'll be sure to park it out near the road so you'll easily be able to see it. Also, if anyone needs me to bring anything (BBs, Gas, Etc) to this game, please let me know before Friday night as I am not planning to bring additional items to sell at the game.

Darkstar out.

07-27-2005, 04:58 PM
Darkstar could you please bring 3 bags of stealth .2g bb's?

Patient people!!! Patient! You can't expect things to be done in a moment's notice, he is not an commercial operator, just nice enough to stick his neck out and let us run through his property shooting each other. Plus I have works to do, I got bills to pay, and I don't just sit home and organize games.

Anyway, lets just pretend that the address I have already posted is his address. The actual street address won't help you much anyway - you can hardly see it from the street. I will try to put up the AirsoftOhio.com sign on the entrance so you can't miss it this way.

07-27-2005, 09:37 PM
hey wallace maybe you could put like a sign at the end of the drive for dumb people like me

07-27-2005, 09:40 PM
Sign...Isn't that what he said he'd do?

07-27-2005, 09:52 PM
how about waivers?

07-27-2005, 10:12 PM
opps i didnt know there was a second page haha

07-27-2005, 10:32 PM
i dont know if this will help anyone but if you goto this link and just change the start address to yours it will give you good directions

07-28-2005, 04:12 PM
this question is for any 1 who had bought from the airsoft arms truck at a game, do thay charge tax? and whast it look like?

07-28-2005, 04:26 PM
Its a OD Green Jeep Cherokee with Airsoft Arms painted in yellow on on the side. I think tax is .07 to the dollar.

Also Darkstar could you please bring 2 bags of Stealth .25g OD Green BB's instead of the 2 bags of .2g Stealths. Thanks.

07-28-2005, 04:31 PM
Yes, sales tax is charged on all purchases.

07-28-2005, 10:59 PM

THANKS darkstar!

07-29-2005, 09:16 PM
so are there going to be no waivers....or for those that are under 18 can't come without and adult present?

07-29-2005, 10:09 PM
Event Update

Date and Time
Official game start time is now NOON, and please DO NOT show up before 10:30am. The field owner won't let you in until I get to the field, and I won't be there until 10:30am. Since it is quite informal, the overhead (rule explainations etc.) should be short, and we can get underway relatively quickly.

There will be a waiver for this field, but its not ready yet. So for this weekend you do not need to sign a waiver. I would prefer anyone under 18 to bring your parent(s) if at all possible.

The field's address is:
6250 North Street,
Grandville, OH 43023
But if you type that address into Yahoo! Maps they will send you to the wrong place. MapQuest is a bit better, so is Google Map. Anyway, here is a few tips:

1. AVOID the I-270 and SR-161 Interchange. Both onramps between the north side of I-270 and SR-161 are CLOSED. The whole area is a giant mess.

2. Use Morse road to get to SR-62. Take I-270 to Morse road, go east 3.3 miles and you will find the SR-62 intersection.

3. SR-62 is the fastest way to get there from Columbus. Take SR-62 (either from Morse Road, or through somewhere up north (e.g. Central College Road if you know where it is) into Johnstown.

3. Once you are in Johnstown (the center of Johnstown is about 11 miles from the Morse Road / SR-62 Intersection), look for "Sportsman Club Road". Johnstown is located on the SR-62 and SR-37 intersection, so once you pass SR-37 starts looking. Sportsman Club Road is just outside Johnstown (less then 1 mile from SR-37), on the north side of town. You will see a yellow sign saying "Sportsman Club Road" right before the turn. Turn right into Sportsman Club Road (head east).

4. Once on Sportsman Club Road, go east for 8 miles into Fredonia where you will meet SR-661. You should run across I think 4 stop signs (don't quote me on it...)., and Fredonia is not really a town... just a few houses really, but once you are there turn RIGHT onto SR-661 (heading south). The entrance of his field is on your left, and I will put a "AirsoftOhio.com" sign up front.

5. Coming from the north (per the above directions), if you pass the "Timbuk Tree Farm" sign, you've JUST missed the entrance - turn around. Coming from the South (say you live in Grandville of Newark), the entrance will then be on your right (east side of road) immediately after the "Timbuck Tree Farm" on the "hill top".

I hope the above directions are helpful.

Finally, please note that:
1. All AirsoftOhio.com rules applies, look them up at the "Rules" section.
2. Remember to bring sufficient drinks - water, Gatorade, etc. Its not going to be toasty hot, but dydration is still important.
3. Wear long sleeve (BDU top/pants are best) if you plan to dive into any bushes - currently there are quote a bit of thorny stuff around still.
4. Bug spary is always nice to have.
5. APPROVED GOOGLES ONLY!!!!! No shop glasses!!! NO SHOP GLASSES!!!!!!! Remember it has to be full-seal.

If you have any other questions, post here before Saturday night and I will try to address them. Otherwise see you all in the field. Oh and remember to bring 5 bucks. :)

07-30-2005, 12:02 AM
depending on other situations i may or may not be there....it is a 2 hour drive from dayton...so is my understanding that i COULD play even without a parent signature?

07-30-2005, 01:02 AM
whoohoo game on me and hexonal will be there ready to play!

Quick question if you get it in time, is there mag rules? all i got with my m15 is a high cap so if its milsim im stuck with just my tanaka just curriuse THANKS

07-30-2005, 02:17 PM
P90 Killer,

No there is no waiver yet, but if your parent will be giving you a ride I'd like to speak with them before the game just in case.

There is no mag rules, anything goes... hi-cap, box mag, etc... this is an informal game so there will be more run-and-gun then hard core mil-sim.

07-30-2005, 02:47 PM
well seeing as i am driving myself......

Nate Dogg
07-30-2005, 06:44 PM
ill be there with two others, possibly a third other person, but probably just three total.

07-30-2005, 07:34 PM
I live basically at the intersection of Morse and 62.

What you need to do is continue east bound on morse rd. and follow the detour signs.

My development is on the right of morse rd. (its called harrison pond) so give me a wave as you go by ;)

I am 98.9% sure this is true (i dont drive, but i know there are SR-62 detour signs going down morse so its almost a certainty). if is is not closed you can follow the route wallace laid out.

07-30-2005, 09:00 PM
All right let me make sure I have this right. We are going to start playing at 12 and not 10:30.

07-30-2005, 10:19 PM
Yes thanks for the note... SR-62 is indeed closed between SR-161 and Morse (at least last I was there)... Sorry I completely forgot. Damn there is no good way to get there!!!

Yes game starts at noon, but when I say "game start at noon" I mean "game start at noon" - you are going to start shooting at noon! So don't just wonder by at noon or 12:15, you are gonna be stuck at the parking lot for a LONG time.

I'd say show up anywhere between 10:30am and 11:00 ~ish. 11:00 - 11:30 is briefing, and at 11:30 we will start walking into the field (its a good 15+ min. walk). First scenario starts at 12:00 sharp. Sorry for not making this clear before.

07-31-2005, 06:03 PM
That was probably one of the best games ive ever played, please have many more

P.S.The AT4 launcher was pretty cool

07-31-2005, 07:47 PM
Yeah, today was really fun. I like the field very much. I'll also try my best at getting the photos up on AO as soon as I can.

07-31-2005, 10:00 PM
ya great game cant wait till there are more trails and less thorn bushes :P but awsome game nun the less so thanks for havin me :D

07-31-2005, 11:19 PM
Awesome first game. The field was great, i've got tons of scratches and scrapes and i left thorns on the rug when I got home, LOL.

I'm excited to see what you do with the place, and the bridge Idea sounds great. only suggestions I could think of were maybe a (removable) low wall at the shooting position, and a real trail (smaller than an ATV track) looping up behind said position.

Everyone was really cool, and i hope to see you all again.

Sorry again about the headshot MP5.

08-01-2005, 09:20 AM
HAHA! That's ok.

08-02-2005, 02:27 PM
hey wallace if you ever need any 1 to help work on that field give me a shout and ill see if i can help out.

also i cant belive only four people posted there thoughts about the field :(

08-02-2005, 03:11 PM
It was one of my favorite events. Games were simple, players were nice, and I was happy. I'd definately go to future ones. I think the field is best suited for <40 players and with any more than we had something would need to be figured out for parking so we don't wreck the guy's back yard.

08-02-2005, 04:47 PM
I started a thread in the past events section about this game. Here is a link, http://www.airsoftohio.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7801
