Slaya360
02-16-2005, 02:46 PM
My class is raising money to create a scholarship in memory of Brett Childs, who died earlier this school year. I am hosting an airsoft event to raise money for this.

This event will not in any way be a milsim event. Simply a fun day to help out for a good cause.

Price: $20
Location: Fran Bar Park, 13861 E. Broad St Pataskala, OH 43062
Date: March 12th, 2005
Waiver: http://www.franbarpark.com/form.htm

You can register at www.airsoftevents.com

its not milsim man

stewb_10
02-16-2005, 04:26 PM
ok, umm what kind of firepwer are we talkin, springer, GBB, AEG or what, and does anybody planning to go have an extra gun w/ battery and mags they would let me use/rent. its a good chance to get a warm up for rising city, and its for a good cause.

also, can you release some info on rules (FPS, MED) and games (CQB, speedball, scenarios)?

Slaya360
02-16-2005, 05:54 PM
TriggerHappy10, As was already answered, there is no limit on the type of mags you use. If you want to use a hicap, go right ahead.

stewb_10, If everyone wants to show up with a springer, I'm all for it. However I would expect most to have AEGs and some GBBs.

As far as FPS and MED, Standard AO rules. While the limit is at 500 fps I would strongly recomend not going over 400 fps due to the fact that the majority of this field isn't exaclty sniper material, and anything over 400 fps has to be semi auto only.

As for game types, I don't have anything concrete yet. There should be alittle bit of everything.

Onsite, Yes, I have the date confirmed with Fran Bar. In terms of people showing late, I'm not concerned with it too much. I'm going to try and keep most of the games shorter. That way, whoever gets there on time can just have that much more fun, and those who are late can wait for the next game.

So far I'm not planning on having any night games, and I'm unsure of camping the night before.

Raptor, I've used my AEG in the snow and in freezing conditions over the winters for several years now without a failure. I've never been concerned about this, nor have I really ever even heard that issue addressed before. Have you heard of problems in cold weather or something? I'm not harping on you, I'm actually curious is all.

As to me, I'll try to attend if possible. Sounds like a worthy event to do a show up and spend some time plinking for the heck of it.

of course unless he has like a 600fps psg-1 and it is like -10 degrees then u u might want to worry :D

I don't remember who, but someone told me that in cold weather your gearbox becomes more brittle and the chance of cracking it is higher.

OldSchools son here. Slaya if you have ever played this field then you would now a lot of it is mostly CQB. So from experience I would recomend you setting a FPS limit of 400. I mean if you plan playing where the little houses are for majority of the day. But its just a thought.

Thanks DEFENDER, OldSchools son

Slaya360
02-22-2005, 07:01 AM
Edit: The following Information is now outdated and inaccurate.

Yeah, I'll agree to that, FPS limit will be 400. Also due to the lower fps limit, we will request that anything shooting over 350 shoots semi only. Full auto features won't have to be disabled or those guns be excluded completely, just make sure that you keep it on semi auto.

Stewb_10,

not to change the subject but MRMAX has come up for our weekly airsoft in Canton, and he's from Columbus. Maybe you could bum a ride with him next time he comes up.

In regards to the event at Fran Bar, I have to check and see if I'm free that weekend.

Later,

Topics that have just been finalized:

The first game will start at 10:00. Please arrive early and be ready by 10:00.

The minimum age is 12 yrs old. Everyone must have the waiver filled out(can be found at in the first post of this thread). If you are under 18 yrs old, you must have a parent sign the bottom portion of it.

There will be a chrono present to check the fps on all of the guns. Please make sure that none of your fire arms are shooting over 500fps.

Topics that are still pending:

Camping might be available depending on terrain(it could be too muddy). If we can use there campgrounds, it will be $10 for a tent, or $5 per person, whichever is cheapest.

There may be a "retailer" present at this event. I would like to at least have ammo available to buy, but at this point I am unsure.

I think we will be able to provide some refreshments, however I doubt we will have any food. So as of now plan on packing a lunch.

Thats all for now, I will post any updates as soon as possible.

Scorpion

i want to add to your FPS regulations a little bit, i think that semi only for 350+ fps is rather out of place considering a lot of people will have guns over 350.

my suggestion is that if you do in fact have 350+ fps that you need to use semi when ENTERING and clearing rooms in CQB. there is no need to limit it otherwise.

let me expand on what i am saying:
you can use auto when you are shooting into the buildings from a distance of 15ft or greater and you can also shoot outside from within the buildings on auto. BUT you can only use semi when entering the buildings and clearing them.

if you are on the inside and you are aiming into the building or aiming within another part of the room and not out a window or door to the outside you will use semi as well.

this way the players with 350+ fps(myself, my team, and many others) won't have such a serious disadvantage.

if you like this or want to discuss this further go ahead and PM me. i will also be glad to help organize at the actual even itself if needed.

McAnderson
02-22-2005, 05:32 PM
i dont know if this applies here or not, but i have been to Fran Bar twice both of which were hosted by wallace and at each event he has allowed up to 500+ tollerence fps and they were used in the cqb area.

the cqb area has plenty of room for highly upgraded weapons, just because it has a cqb area doesnt mean that 350 plus weapons cant be used. if anyone who attended wallace's events last year at fran bar would know what i am talking about, and i hope would back my statement.

if fps limits are set i still might go depending on ride and fps situations with my friends.

P90killer
02-22-2005, 06:04 PM
i can also back mcanderson up. i was there and was totting my 500+ sniper rifle about all day, minus the first game, wallace asked everyone, since this was an AO event if it was ok that i used a gun over the 500fps limit and everyone was ok, and wallace just set me to a 100ft limit i believe, maybe 125ft. so yes the limit at the one that i played atleast was 500. and followed stadard AO rules, with the exception of my gun which he check with everyone to make sure it was ok

stewb_10

killers sniper is OK with me, especially since hes probly renting me a gun hehe.

P90killer
02-22-2005, 08:09 PM
and hopefully mcanderson can back me up on that b/c i was the one shooting the guy in the parking lot, under his own will, and i was very truthful in game with my distances. oh and i wanna get the guy that said i sucked. "i can't shoot inside 100ft" ;) (and that was the shot he wanted me to take)

Scorpion
02-22-2005, 08:17 PM
i for one can speak on P90's behalf, i have played previously with him and have seen his ability with a sniper rifle.

That aside Slaya360 i strongly encourage you to consider our suggestions for your event. It will help a lot of people out and make for a much more varied arena.

If not then i think you'll be missing a lot of people who would otherwise love to come and support your cause/play some airsoft.

stewb_10
02-22-2005, 08:19 PM
so basically, if we hear him shoot, just run as fast as you can in the direction of the fire :D .

EDIT: now im worried couse if boomstick doesnt come im screwed, especailly if its cold outside. does anybody going here have a gun i might be able to borrow as a back up to killers (boomsticks) gun, just incase boomstick cant go?

btw- im just now realizing this cuz i was out playing today with my GBB and it lasted for 30 min before failing. if that happens at the game ill be sitting around all day.

Cold weather = loss in battery performance/life, higher tendancy for BB jams in tighter bore barrels, and higher tendancy of stress fractures on plastic parts.

Playing in freezing conditions means to have the battery speed chargers a blazin cause you will on them several times throughout the day. Batteries drain like MAD when in cold temps.

Tight bore barrels jam more frequently. There is a shrinkage factor involved and dirt on BB's/in barrel is much more pronounced in BB trajectories and jams. Not to mention hop-ups go screwy!!!

Some players are little rougher on their stuff than others...ie ME! Alot of AEG's have heavier metal parts being supported by plastic parts. In colder weather plastic becomes somewhat more stiff/brittle and can break/crack easier as it is not as flexible as in warmer conditions.

Ok, The FPS limit will follow the Standard AO limits. Up to 500fps will be allowed. However, due to the small size of some of the bunkers there, we will go ahead and use Scorpion's suggestion of only being allowed to shoot semi in cqb areas if your guns is shooting over 350fps.

Playing in freezing conditions means to have the battery speed chargers a blazin cause you will on them several times throughout the day. Batteries drain like MAD when in cold temps.

Your batteries do not drain faster do to the cold. Their internal resistance goes up making it harder to get the stored energy out of the battery. This is why when you warm your battery up when it seems to be "running down" in cold weather, it will seem to act as if you charged it back up. So you don't really need to fast charge your battery, just warm it up. This can be accomplished with those chemical hand warmer packets that hunters use in their gloves and boots. (They are really cheap right now due to the fact that deer season is over.)

Be aware though that these packets activate on moisture (I belive) so you may have to wrap it in a wet paper towel that's been wrong out very well. I belive others once activated don't need to be kept in a wet environment, or something like that I'm no chemist

hey slaya, any updates on scenarios/games?

EDIT: and oh yea are we dividing up by kriegers/tropicos or armands or what?

Slaya360
02-28-2005, 07:17 AM
The Kriegers/Tropicos are irrelevant for this event. The fact that you can pick between the too is just an error with airsoftevents. Also, there is no camo requirement. As long as you have clothing on, I wont complain.

As far as game types, I don't have anything specific yet. All I can tell you at this point is there should be a good mix.

Yes warming up the battery will do the trick but don't wrap it with a wet paper towel. The packets are activated by air. That's why they are sealed in packages and once you open them you have to use them. So if you wrap you battery with a hand warmer and stick it in your pocket you will be fine. But be sure to bring warms clothes and i'll see everyone there.

Some of the games that we play, I will mention that they will be played with realistic rules. I'd like to clarify what I mean by this so there is less confusion on the 12th.

If you get shot in the:

head you are dead.
chest or stomach you are dead.
right shoulder, you must shoot shouldering you gun to your left shoulder(shoot left handed). Vice versa for left handed people.
If you get shot in a limb, you can not use that limb.
Ex. If your leg gets shot you must limp or if your arm is shot you cannot aim or shoot with that arm.

Basically, make your wounds as real as possible. Act them out, if you get shot in the throat, fall down holding your neck making gurgling sounds. The more realistic your wound/death is acted out, the more fun we'll have.

Some of these games will have respawns, some will not(we may request that when you die in games without respawns, that lay were you died and do not get up and walk away). Some of these games will have medics, some will not. If you don't like these rules, please remember that only some games will have these rules. We will have a good mix of games.

Dante

will armbands be given out at the field to decide teams or what? also will we get to hear any of the games ahead of time or is it a suprise?

Slaya360
03-02-2005, 10:43 PM
As of now, we have no armbands. That is unless fran bar has some for us or someone can lend us some. I'll have to get back to you on that one.

As far as specific games, I haven't decided how much I should tell you yet. I am definately considering saving some for surprises.

Nosebuckle
03-03-2005, 01:10 PM
Slaya, let me make some good suggestions from someone who has endured really bad and reallly good fran bar events.

Keep it simple. I know you want to make it realistic in acting out your wounds, but this is too much for most people. regular elimination rules work just fine. Also, be prepared. Be there early and make yourself visible if you plan on running the show. This includes having a plan of events/mission/scenarios. Keep them simple and fun. It really kills the fun when a complicated mission is attempted and people are confused and end up complaining and arguing. Fran bar is perfect for simple side VS. side elimination, assualt missions (on the large house for instance), BHD-style defense, VIP escort, and good old speed ball. Stick to these tried and true Fran Bar games and you can't go wrong.

Also, teams need to be clearly marked. I've never seen and partaken in so much friendly fire anywhere else than fran bar. woodland vs woodland simply doesnt work. it creates lots of frustration when yu cant tell whos on your team. arm bands are a good idea, different outfits/uniforms are even better.

Above all, keep it simple.

Slaya360
03-03-2005, 03:09 PM
Thanks for the tips nosebuckle. Because of those reasons, I will keep most of the games simple, however, I can't resist at least having a couple games that aren't restricted to "dummy" rules. If I try a game, and it doesn't work, we won't do any more like that. However, if it happens to be a big hit, we'll throw in another couple.

As far as armbands go, we will have armbands available, but the players may be required to get them via deposit. If this is so, it will cost an additional $5 to rent your armband, and then your will get your $5 back when you turn your armband back in.

Glaeken
03-03-2005, 04:59 PM
Out of curiousity, is the $20 fee in addition to the $15 fee imposed by Fran Bar itself?

Scorpion

Out of curiousity, is the $20 fee in addition to the $15 fee imposed by Fran Bar itself?

Slaya isn't it only $20 and now $5 more for armbands?

When did $35 come into the picture?

stewb_10
03-03-2005, 08:54 PM
i agree with scorpion..

also, we have 27 people registered, who hasnt registered, i was thinking we would get anywhere from 35-50. maybe you should set a deadline for registering slaya..

Slaya360
03-03-2005, 09:41 PM
No, the $20 is including the $15 fee for Fran Bar. $5 more will cover an armband. So it will be $25 total and you will get $5 back.

Also, If you would like to camp at Fran Bar the night before, I would highly suggest calling(1-740-927-3568) and confirming everything with them. From my understanding, we will be able to camp by our cars or walk back to the camp grounds, but it will most likely be too wet/muddy to drive any vehicles back to the camp grounds. And from my previous post, it will cost $10 per tent or $5 per person, whichever is cheapest.

As far as registering goes, I too wanted about 50 people present. So please register as soon as possible. The "deadline" will be set for Thursday March 10th at about 9:00 PM. We will be attempting to provide refreshments, but it will be baised off of the # of people registered at the deadline(when I check on thursday night). So you can still regster afterwards, but don't expect any extras.

Yes there is an age limit. Second page about nine posts down. You should be fine if your profile is correct. The limit is 12 yrs old.

ok my question is this..... my school has a state championship game on friday night at 8pm. what i was wondering is if i roll in around like 10-12 pm then will i be allowed to camp the night, (aka sleep in my car) i am just wondering b/c i don't wanna get there and then not have a place to sleep, park my car.

i would also like to know like how i would be charged for that if i just sleep in my car....

one more thing is if i have a gun shooting at say 400+ fps then will i be allowed to use this weapon, and if so, i know i read something about semi only.... will i have to have it completely disabled or is that another one of those honesty type things.

what weight bb's will guns be chronoed with.... i.e sniper rifle chrono with .20's or .43's

blade if u have any sniper weight bb's please also bring them... will email you

Nice one jack, that was pretty funny! Too bad he can't make it this time.

Stew_b - try to be at the event at 930am and also stay on the lookout for a black suburban or blueish grey honda accord(1990s). those are our vehicles and where your rental gun will be if Boomstick doesn't show for you.

Also when you trun off the main road there is a small parking lot type area with a bus. you ahve to regiter there and get an arm band from Fran Bar to play for the day. then from there a small road will be to teh back and that will take you to the main parking lot/camping area.

P90killer - Slaya has adopted the AO rules for FPS and MED regulations at this event. so you as well as myself are set for the 400-420fps deal.

as for the Semi rule i had suggested that we use semi only when entering the buildings and then when clearing room to room, but now that i have seen what Fran bar is like this is a moot point, there are no rooms. Only hallways and large areas with walls around them :P

Ok, we will have hot dogs. As of now we are planning on boiling them. We will provide buns, ketchup, and mustard. We will also be providing various kinds of cheap pop(probably walmat brand).

P90Killer, I will try to get an answer for you on that, but your best bet would be to call fran bar and get a direct answer from them. I would think, since you wouldn't be using anything more than a parking space, you could "camp" there for free. However, I am not fran bar and cannot give you a definite answer. Again, I will try to get an answer for you as soon as possible, but to be completely sure, you may want to attempt to contact them yourself.

As for guns that are shooting over 400fps, you will have to shoot in semi only, but you don't have to disable you full auto function. We will be chronoing with .2g bbs.

Electricity, This is one issue I overlooked. I will ask fran bar about it, but for now, if you don't have an adapter to charge from your car battery, you may want to just make sure your batteries are charged by friday night(or you may be able to by one from Combat Depot. ;) ).

Also, Everyone must have the required waiver(http://www.franbarpark.com/form.htm) filled out and turned in before they play. Everyone under the age of 18 must also have a parent/guardian sign for them as well.

There is a good chance there will be more people there than what is registered on airsoftevents. I personally know several people who are coming that have not registered on airsoft events.

For those wondering earlier, www.combatdepot.com will bring Excel and airsoft Elite bbs (.2g and .25g) and will also have G&G (orange .25g).

If you want gas, let me know because with the incoming weather, I doubt any of you will want to use their pistols which mean I don't want to bring useless items to the game :D

Slaya -

Seeing as we will most likly have over 80 people coming to this, many unregistered, please be prepared to serve that many with the food(1 or 2 hot dogs, which ever you are doing).

EDIT - Just had an idea, what if you print a final list of the registered people from AE.com on friday night, and then ONLY those names on the list will get food. Since they are the ones who actually took the time to register.

Also if you need any extra help in setting up the event my team and i will be there pretty early. This looks to be a very fun game, snow or not!
:D

Scorpion,

very good idea and I would like to apologize if www.airsoftevents.com got and still have some issues, I am actually trying to improve the whole site, typing with one hand and reading a PHP book with the other hand :D

One thing is sure, people can register without problem.

Thanks, for the tips. My plan is to only let those who registered get hotdogs and pop, but it will mostly depend on how many hotdogs and pop I can get. I am trying to get some local companies to donated money, but I didn't think of this until yesterday, so I don't know if I can get it in time.

Hey Slaya360,

I may or may not be able to show up due to a combination of factors... (in particular, cold is not my thing). If I do decided to skip the game, is there a way I can send in $20 donation directly to you or to the scholarship? Thanks!

Ez.Wallace

p.s. I apologize if someone had already asked and it has already been answered in the thread... I've been too busy to read the whole thread. Sorry!

@ Slaya - Wonderful news on the food, and i'm happy you got the donation. I hope you do get enough. :)

@ Hardcorekiller - The registration thus far is set for friday at 4. Unless Slaya wants to change it, that was the last time established.

Slaya360
03-11-2005, 12:15 AM
Wallace, YOU MUST COME:mad: . Well, if you can't make it, and you would still like to make a donation, checks can be written out to The Brett Childs Fund. I would assume that you would then send that directly to my school. I will have to find out tomorrow for sure.

Everyone else, if Wallace does not come the only other access to armbands I have is from Fran Bar, which only has red and blue armbands. I for one am not thrilled about this, so I may use colored duct tape(brown, green, grey, ect.) for the armbands. If I were to use duct tape for the armbands, a $5 deposit would not be required. For now though, plan on needing your $5.

As far as registration, that's not the same time I remember posting. Hopefully I can get enough food and refreshments to compensate for extra people. No promises yet. However, there is still time if you haven't registered yet, do so immediately. Get registered in time, and you wont have to worry about it.

Onsite, sorry, but we are not planning any night games

D-Boy, I would like to keep things simple. You can still bring your tennis ball grenades to show off and what not, but I don't think that they will be allowed in the games.

Didn't think I'd be able to make this one but apparently the plant I work at is closed tomorrow. So I get a suprise day off! :)
Weather permitting, I should be attending and bringing a few people with me. Not sure yet but It's looking good so far.

Oh also, Depending on the weather and what can happen on a Friday night, we might be fashionably late. :D But we're going to do our best to be there.

Sorry, but I don't have any kind of paypal to use, your best bet would be to write out a check to "The Brett Childs Memorial Fund", and then contact me for the address to send it to. If paypal, is you only way to donate, I suppose you could send it to my brother, and then we could pass it to the appropriate place. If you would still like to donate just message me and we will work it out from there.

And Dreamer, 2 hours of driving just to turn around and leave! That's insane, next time come and find me. I'm sure that we could have worked something out.
