View Full Version : firefox problem
I am using the latest version of firefox (1.0) and the nav bar on the right does not display correctly and lacks some function. Instead of being all alighned with the "home" link at the top of the list, it is all moved over somewhat further to the right. Also, the "rules" and "faqs" buttons do not fucntion correctly.

I think its becase this website was designed to be used with IE. I use Netscape and the RULES button has never worked for me when i click on it. Takes me to the forum index. There is a gap between Rules and FAQ and then another between FAQ and Auctions

Yeah, I know firefox doesn't like the collapsable nav bar on the right... but thats what you get for using a POS browser. :)

Bah, I can't believe you just said that about a microsoft product, something we all use yet all hate.
I think he was refering to firefox..
What I don't get is why use something that NO ONE designs web pages/programs for?
*shrugs* I'll stick to IE. Remember, a computer is only as smart as it's user. And if you hate microsoft products that much learn how to use linux - it's not that hard.

they also dont design as many popup ads and spyware for firefox. its a fair trade-off in my oppinion. less garbage means a faster connection. in my experience firefox is much faster than IE, but it would still be nice if everything looked the way it is supposed to. ;)
Yeah, I don't get pop ups or spyware... and I use IE.
As I said before, a computer is only as smart as it's user (no offense), so if your smart about what you do - you won't have to worry about Pop ups, Spyware, Spam, virus's etc.
It really doesn't matter. 90% or more websites are designed to be used with IE. If you would like to donate your time to write the code for use with firefox or any of the several dozen other browsers available, go ahead.
If you want to lessen the chance of spyware and pop-ups, stop surfing the porn sites. There are several free spyware and pop-up tools available and even more less obtrusive measures that can prevent them simply by recofiguring IE.
AO is written in PHP, Javascript, and HTML, (pardon me if I missed some). If your browser can't handle these industry standards then it is rather useless, isn't it?
I use firefox. I have the same problem with the buttons not lining up, but they still work. It's not that big of a deal.

Fox, what I meant by that was, if he's calling Firefox a pos browser then he must be implying IE is better ;). And I think you have the logic switched around, historically the reason people program stuff for IE is because so many people use it, not vice versa. Firefox is meant to mimic IE without the issues IE brings to the table.
Unfortunately what you say is true about the coding. I've used IE for years, and I have several enterprise programs I use to keep it clean. It barely gets dirty anyway because I'm not browsing sites that would pick up much, and I know how to browse effectively with IE. I'm known as the "computer guy" in college amongst many of my classmates, and the problems I end up fixing most are 98% spyware and trojan related.
I just recently made the switch to Firefox because I like the tabbing and plugins, I also like the email browser (Thunderbird). I love the download system too. The fact of the matter is, IE is targeted by everybody. Who goes after Firefox users with malicious code and trojans? I personally find SP2 with IE quite annoying when it comes to web browsing. SP2 is great for blocking open ports etc, and in that I think they did a good job. But I still feel IE is obnoxious now after SP2. It blocks TOO much stuff and its a real pain to unblock stuff constantly. Yet its also a large security threat to not have SP2 on your computer for the other things it fixes.
I agree with you on your major point though - if you use IE without getting into trouble, why not? I made the switch because I like some extra features of Firefox that IE doesnt have, not because of the spam or viruses (though thats definitely an added advantage).
Much <3 to you fox and texx, but I love my Firefox :o

I've been using Firefox for almost a year now and AO and Uncompany were the only websites that it had issues with. For some reason, UNCompany's Item pop up windows wouldn't scroll, but that's been fixed for awhile now.
The sidebar here on AO doesnt work for me either, but on the other hand I hardly ever need to use it, and if I do, I just fire up IE.
The main appeal for me for Firefox was the minimal if no security holes, Tabbed browsing, and all the plugins (Gmail, RSS, and the SA Last Read).
My combo of Firefox/NIS 2004/Spybot S&D has kept me Spywear free for 11 months now.

fyi, the problem persists when using IE 5.5 on my ibook and the problem is absolutely terrible when using safari. can you not just fix it? it would make the whole website look 5x better. (hate to bring up a dead topic but its just so ugly that i couldnt help but mention it.

Well, I don't know if they did anything, or mozilla did, but somehow it works for me now. I used to not be able to see any threads, but the only thing i can't do is rules and faq...but it's no matter..I just used IE for a sec.
