i can't tell whether it's plastic or metal, but it's definitely seperate from the rest of the barrel (meaning it must be glued on)
i can't figure whether it's orange painted metal, or orange plastic. do any of you have experience with removing tips like these? thanks in advance.

Hey, you're in Wake Forest? Me and a few friends down in Fuquay play airsoft (I don't have my gun yet :( ) almost every weekend. Good to hear that more people in NC are getting into airsoft!

Do a search for this topic within the forums..... I know there is at least one thread addressing this subject

I'm pretty sure that it is plastic. Because when I had my m11, I tried to put nailpolish remover on it and it started to turn white. So I just painted it, looks as good as if it had never been orange lol.

I ordered a KWA M11A1 (Version 2) from Airsoft Atlanta about a year ago. My KWA M11 came with a metal barrel with about a 1/2" of thick orange / red paint.
After just a little use the paint started to chip off. Once it got to a certain point, I just decided to chip the rest of it off myself. All I used was my finger nail. It did take a little while, but nothing too long.
The inside of the barrel was a little more difficult and I carefully used a metal finger nail file. Like it said in one of the posts above, there was a very slight white / gray residue left over that I could not remove. It was hardly noticable, unless you are a perfectionist like me.
So to sum it one, my KWA M11's (Version 2 - metal bolt) orange tip just chipped off. It maybe hard to start, but once the first chip is off, it should come along easily.
Just FYI, I used rubbing alcohol and a cotton ball to get the orange off of my TM Tactical Master with good results. Maybe if the orange on your M11 is different that mine, this might work. Just don't let the alcohol get into the workings of your gun.

thanks for the help man. i'll try that out tonight. and for the other player in n.c., i'd play with you if you didn't live so damned far away. i just got into a team, and while my gun isn't the best for primary use, it sure is a hell of a lot of fun to shoot.
