Air America Flight 971 failed to check in on the last leg of its mission. It's an aging World War 2 era Navy R4D with two 1,200 horsepower Pratt & Whitney R-1830 radial engines. She is loaded with 4500 pounds of classified cargo bound for a classified destination. The aircraft last checked in 4 hrs previous and the pilots transmitted a prearranged signal.
CIA Chief of Station in the flight's country of origin has serious concerns regarding their safety. The crew is all experienced on this aircraft. The aircraft passed a safety inspection 2 hours prior to take-off so the possibility of mechanical failure is not high.
A satellite has been re-directed however, it will take some time for it to come onto its new station. Intel photos will not be readily available. CoS has placed a request with the SAS for a SOG team to locate the aircraft, cargo and crew.
The mission specifics are as follows:
Locate 971 and completely destroy the aircraft and the classified contents by fire.
Find the crew. Rescue or terminate as necessary to the situation. If there is any evidence that the crew has cooperated with persons or forces hostile to American interests, terminate them.
Draw foreign uniforms and weapons from available sources. No evidence of US involvement permitted.
