what is the average age of airsoft players here.
I would think it would be more of an older group with a lot of the younger people doing paintball instead.
I am 23 myself

how about we take out all the 13 year olds with springers.
And how about those with GBBs and AEGs only eh?
i'm guessing that to be 25?

hehe well im only 16 myself... and last time i played in hawaii there was a kid not even 10 running around with a gas pistol and silencer that was almost as big as him. lol thats an image ill never forget...
Will be 19 in.. a few days.
So.. im 18 right now, and in the past 3 years I've spent an ungodly amount of money on airsoft, and kicking my self for it.
I totalled it all up once on Arnies a few months ago, and I beleive (not minusing what guns and gear i've sold) and including my most recent purchases I've spent some where around $15,000.
Just a little warning, don't let it suck you in like me :D if you get a troublesome gun, get rid of it quickly, don't let it be a money pit. I've had 3 or 4 'money' pits, one costing me probably around $3000 or so after every thing, and I finally sold it recently.

I am 17 years old, will be 18 May 15th, just graduated High School. I have spent over 4000 dollars on Airsoft Guns, Ammo, Gas and Equipment over the past 4 years, 1250 on my P90 alone.
Its a costly hobby? Yes it is. Is it worth it? It has been.
I notice a lot of age ranges that play this sport. I have a 6 year old nephew who owns 4 springers and a GBB, all hand-me-downs from myself (wish I knew about this as a kid!). I also know a 58 year old man who owns a few of my guns, but doesnt skirmish due to health conditions.
A couple of the gunsmiths and hobbyists in my area are catching on to this as well. One of them is even thinking about carrying basic stuff like ammo, batteries and gas.
Overall, Airsoft is definately expanding. Is that good or bad? Only time will tell..
Although this person's question has been answered, and he never asked about if its a costly hobby or not.. in regards to the costs, it doesn’t have to be so extremely costly..
You can buy an AEG and battery for around $300 and even less if its used (not bad compared to prices on some paintball guns) spend perhaps $10 on cheapest cammo they have in the surplus store (prolly flektarn).. Buy a bag of .2 BBs (3700 rounds aprox) for about $15 every once in a while and be conservative about your ammo.. Find a place to play at locally where you can have your games (and usually not have to pay field fee of any kind)... So over all, its cheaper than paintball or laser tag at commercial places..
Putting thousands into your weapon isn’t really necessary unless you want a particular rare modification or think you need some performance advantage.. the stock AEG will be perfectly good, and a minor upgrade that keeps you below 350fps (and no minimum engagement distance) costs maybe 30 bucks if you feel you really need it...
Other things that you might spend money on for airsoft if you have the budget are magazines (not needed if you get 1 hi cap), tactical assault vest, and radio... If you plan to go to large scale events, those usually have field fees which in this area are between $5 - $30 usually.. and then gas to get there if its a drive..

Currently 15 1/2. Have a 600 dollar G3 SG1 and a 300 dollar P90. Also have my webbing (German Flecktarn Surplus) and gloves, goggles, BDUs, helmet. About another 200 dollars and I'm not even done buying. Still need to buy a P1, some magazine pouches, more magazines, and so forth. Also thinking about buying the VSR 10 G-Spec as soon as it's in Hong Kong stores (Havnt checked in a while, might be there as we speak) as the VSR 10 seems to be a very upgradeable and less expensive yet just as reliable and awesome as the CA M24 and Maruzen APS series.
Just thought you all would like to know :D

I first started playing airsoft when i was 7, back in the gas gun days. i remember when AEG's first came out, and we all went "it'll never catch on". didnt really play much then though. Now, im 18, going on 19, and i've probably invested close to 7,000 dollars in airsoft. I summed it up. My PSG-1 cost: close to 2 grand, but split between two people
My G3A3 cost : 400 even id say. Stock gun, lots of standards, and a supressor
my G3A4:......really really expensive. Probably....1500 dollars easily.
My SG-1 : 300 bucks, kept it stock, sold it.
SR 16: 800 bucks
FAMAS: 400
AK 47 : 450
M15A4 (priceless) somewhere in the hood of 700 so far, and im STILL modifying it.
Then you add in things like gear, bb's, batteries.... lets say.....about 400 there. thats 6950. I havnt even began to dip into the GBB pool AKA money pit that i used to have (maruzen mp5k, glock26C, TM chrome beretta, taurus raging bull, KWC Desert Eagle X2, TM desert eagle 1st gen, WA 6" Infinity single stacker SVI, and lots and lots of mags)
So um, yeah, im 19

I am 15 and i have spent about 1500 on airsoft altogether. About 1200 of it was towards my M4 and its problems...but I think it was a worthy investment considering i dont do anything else except play mil-sim games online...

I am not sure of the laws in Ohio since I am from Illinios but is it legal for anyone under 18 to purchase a gun in your state? If you can purchase a gun do you guys have to have your parent present to play? I am asking because I dont know. I am 26, as of yesterday.

If you look at the store sites you'll see they require people to be 18+ to purchase a gun in their stores and online. Wether or not it's the law, they keep it that way.
17 here btw, and I've only got two springers. Only invested about $7 though.. my first springer I got as a gift, the second I got for parts for free (technically a gift too), but was able to get it in working order and just had to buy a spare part online that cost $7. Now I have two well working ones.

Im 15 I have spent about 1200 on all of my stuff. I got a ksc Glock 19, and a spetsnaz with about 360 fps and a silencer+RDS . Three more of my friends are 14 and they have stock Tm aeg's. My two older friends are 16 they have stock Tm aeg's also.
I by far have spent the most with all the guns, gear, and ammo, out of my friends but enough is enough its time to save up for my acessories for my Acura Integra.

16, 17 in July.
I made out great in airsoft. My first gun I bought used last year, an M16a2 with 2 highcaps, 2 standards, a battery, bb's, and some other good stuff for only 280 shipped. The only problem I had was a broken hop up. I did a 350 fps upgrade and its still my gun to this day. I have quite alot of gear, but I don't go too over the top. Total, including my gun/gear/accessories, I've spent a tiny bit over $600. Not bad at all.

I am 16 and ive owned:
TM Thompson-stock
TM-MP5 A5-stock
TM MP5 SD5 - systema poly piston, Silent head set, sp100, systema oiless busings
CA MP5 A2 v3
CA M15A4 Armalite
And a couple of GBBs
To me i think airsoft is'nt to costy because when u buy a well working good AEG its around 300$ but say for instance paintball there guns are 1500$ for good ones. I mean you can deck a AEG and make it go 2000$ but for paintball theres not that much external stuff like there is in airsoft.
well thats my opionin

I am 19 years old. I have been playing for just over a year, and have invested somewhere in the neighborhood of $2500
Guns I have owned:
TM Mp5-A4 - Upgraded with reinforced gearbox, reinforced gear set, m100 spring, 2 standard caps, 1 high cap
KJW M9 Gbb - Two mags
KSC Steyr TMP - Two mags
Guns I still own:
CA Mp5-A4 - Upgraded with m100 spring, metal bushings, reinforced spring guide (Waiting to ship: RAS w/verticle foregrip) 3 high caps
TM M3 Super90 - Sawed Off w/7 shells looking to sell, PM me for info
TM AK47 Spetznaz - Upgraded with metal bushings, m120 spring
KJW M93R - one standard mag, one extended mag
I think that's about it...
Lates,
Scott
Well, It looks like I started a trend
Maybe some one should have an on going post (Sticky maybe?) of how old players are. And another one for what guns you have/have had, and how much you have spent.
It seems like a pretty intresting topic over all, and it comes up every so often.
Just an idea.
Cheers

So far 5 players out of the 25 that have posted in this thread are over the age of 20. If you were to show up to an AO game, you would obviously see the average age to be more along the time line of 15-18 years old.
You dont see a high volume of older players because being "out on our own" responsibilites take over and Airsoft becomes a hobby that is played ONLY IF budget permits. We dont have the luxury of it being a fun time that Dad and Mom can pay for or a part time job can finance. :(
AO has grown IMMENSELY over the last 2-3 years and gets bigger every season. Though many of us would like to see a larger base of older aged players, it is still great to see more people getting into the sport regardless their age (with moderation). I am currently 29 years old and play regularly with a group that the youngest age is 17 and that is only 2 players.
Though age doesnt matter, maturity does. The younger the age ususally means a stronger lack of responsibility and that is what makes both a pro and con to any group that is growing. ;)

The Hong Kong police just siezed my spare parts a couple of days ago, because we didnt think that putting them in a stroller would be a problem! Spare parts man!!
Uhh, yeah. Tex here, long time reader, first time poster -- I've been reading this post for almost two weeks now and wanted to comment.
from "Sixteen Going On Seventeen," The Sound of Music
You are sixteen going on seventeen
Baby, it's time to think
Better beware...be canny and careful
Baby, you're on the brink
You are sixteen going on seventeen
Fellows will fall in line
Eager young lads and rogues and cads
Offer you food and wine
Totally unprepared are you to face a world of men
Timid and shy and scared are you
Of things beyond your ken
You'll need someone older and wiser
Telling you what to do,
I am seventeen going on eighteen
I'll take care of you!
I am sixteen going seventeen
I know that I'm naive
Fellows I meet may tell me I'm sweet
And willingly I believe
I am sixteen going seventeen
Innocent as a rose
Bachelor dandies, drinkers of brandies
What do I know of those?
Totally unprepared am I to face a world of men
Timid and shy and scared am I
Of things beyond my ken
I need someone older and wiser
Telling me what to do,
You are seventeen going on eighteen
I'll depend on you!
Now ain't that just pretty as a picture?

that's part of my sig lol, didn't just put it in at random on this thread (just want to clarify it).
I was about to say... This thread almost turned from being the most pointless "look at me, i am only (insert age under 18 here) and look how much money i've spend and all my gear! blabla!" into the most pointless political "my guy is better" thread..
Can someone lock this please, before it gets out of hand?? The original question that was asked (what the average age is) was answered about 10 times over already...

Everyone's opinon matters. Just because he can't vote dosen't mean that his opinion dosen't matter. He could influence undecided voters with his opinion. There his opinion would matter.
