Umm, don't get shot.:)
Take your time while playing. Don't become a Rambo paintball style player, but think of tactics and try to make them work.

POWGirl,
Read, read, read! The newbie faq on the right is a great place to start.
Anyone find it strange that someone in Japan, the mecca of airsoft, would come to an Ohio website to find out about airsoft?? lol

Welcome to the world of airsoft!
I have to second Locutus's recommendation that you read the FAQ on this site. The Airsoft FAQ is relatively short and will give you a very rough overview of the sport.
The Newbie FAQ, written by the honorable DumboRAT, contains a wealth of information. It is recommended reading material for anyone interested in the sport. Its a long, and sometime technical and boring, read, but if you get through it, you'll be generally ready to ask the more important questions.
As always, feel free to ask any questions to may have about the sport as many of us here will be glad to help put you on the right track!

Welcome to Airsoft!
Probably my best advise is dont become a spray and pray type, or Rambo as Slaya360 stated. It doesnt get you anywhere and your team-mates yell at you when you do it;)

i'll be careful not to become one of those. my friends gave me some advice and they said they'd help me out. they're all still trying to get me to have all the gun types memorized  .

Unless you play a support class like myself, spraying = bad. Spraying keeps people's heads down pretty well, especially with 1700 rounds.
I can give you some tips I have learned over the past four years.
1. Play safe. Always wear the right eye or head protection
2. Follow the rules stated before the game
3. Stick with your team if possible
4. Take cover whenever it is offered to you
5. Bunny hop. While you shoot, your team advances. While they shoot, you advance
6. If your fellow teammate is not shutting up about his brand new metal body while in enemy territory, desert him or duct tape him to a tree
7. If you see an enemy, it doesnt mean you need to shoot. Conserve ammo, radio a closer teammate or keep hidden. Firing on a four-man squad while you are alone is guarunteed a death...unless you are well hidden and far away.
8. Never underestimate a skilled player wielding a springer
9. A good sniper is your worst enemy
10. Communicate with your team. They will lead you to victory.
11. If someone is bragging about his awesome BHD replica gear and wielding a gun RIS'ed to hell with a flashlight, laser, scope, foregrip, grenade launcher, silencer, c-mag, portable microwave, bear shaver and a pair of fuzzy dice, do not hesitate to let them eat the stock of your gun. Place their unconcsious body in a nearby breyer patch while they are stripped down to their tighty-whities...
12. CAMO!
13. Most of all, have fun!

Get as many guns from hk that you can :-p

i agree with el barto, your in the homeland of tokyo marui and the great land of AEG's. You'll be able to get good quality airsoft guns, meaning tokyo marui guns, for extremely low prices. I envy you because you'll get really great deals with out the hassle of high shipping costs, full trademarks, and no customs seizure (until you move back to the US). There should be a lot of great airsoft stores in Japan that people here can give you the name of and address, i hope you enjoy airsoft of much as the rest of the community :D .

"Bunny hop. While you shoot, your team advances. While they shoot, you advance"
I belive it is called the leap frog, not the bunny hop. LOL:D
Hobbles

I think the bunny hop was in reference to counterstrike, lol...jumpin' noobs...
anyway...read up. I read online for like 5 months before even starting to make a move into airsoft. Get a good team, and have fun.
Remember, the two biggest things I recommend: eye protection/face protection...and gun discipline.

If your dad is in the Military and you want to bring your guns back state side then just mail them to you home address in CONUS. Military folks abroad have the advantage of the FPO/AE system, which means no customs, no inspections, and no hefty shipping costs.

my friends and i have gone to several airsoft stores. they're everywhere here (they should be) . the only problem i have is it's against the base rules here to own an airsoft gun. it you're caught with one you'll b sent state side. so we all have to figure something out.

Have a friend that lives off base hold it for you! then when your dad gets ready to come back to the states you can send it back. That or does your family have a off base self storage site?
Kendodude

Yeah, you live in japan. Japanese people are cool. Meaning you should have a japanese friend. And as Kendodude #2 should know, I got beat up by one. Damn Kendo.
Oh yeah about the comment about bringing back guns from HK. Screw that, I'm goin to the Philippines and gettin me a Calico M-100 (SAW'em WITH MEH OWN EYES! two of'em and goin duel SMG stylez. and an AK for like 300 (but bargaining can bring it down, just don't let them know you're american).
Man... what would i do to do some kendo over there. And get tons of classic airsoft guns.

yeah, one of the guys who i play with lives off base. that's where all our stuff is now. but his mom's not too keen on the idea of more guns at their house.
