I am a silly, silly noob when it comes to airsoft, but I would like to get into it once I get an AEG, and find a place to play (cant seem to find a field anywhere near cincy). Anyway, I was wondering, is airsoft growing, shrinking, or just kind of remaining an underground sorta thing most folks havent heard about? Any chance of more airsoft fields springing up near me, and the sport growing in popularity anytime soon?

You should ask yourself the same question.

Obviously since you're a silly, silly NOOB (emphasis on the noobocity of your noobhood) then Airsoft has apparently grown.

Yea, that helps (sarcasm). My point is this: all I know about the history of airsoft is that they banned guns in Japan, so they made fake ones for fun, like 40 years ago or s/t. Is this just springing up in America alongside paintball, or has it been a steady and ungrowing sport for many years (do to the general public's lack of interest).

Do I even qualify as a noob yet, if I have never been to a field, and don't own an AEG? I'm like a wanna-be noob, or somethin because I have yet to suck and know nothing.

It's not my fault you asked a silly question. Many people find it irritating when I reply with an apparent sarcastic answer. However, if you read your question, and think about it logically, it was the best answer.

In response to what you apparently really meant: It seems to me that Airsoft, while not completely mainstream, is growing at a rapid rate. I've seen paintball converts that now trash their old sport because they like airsoft so much. However, while I think the sport will continue to grow, I think it will become mainstream eventually, and that will be a somewhat sad day. I, maybe not others, think that being a part of something NOT mainstream, like Airsoft, or let's say...ice cream cone racing...is awesome. Almost a rebellious type of attitude. But the sport should be enjoyed by as many people as possible who are responsible enough to play.

So, in short, yes. It's like a cancerous growth, eating away at American badasses who can't shoot people with real guns....legally.

I didn't think it was a silly question at all, and I think it was a very valid point, so dont be so harsh. He freely admitted he was a newbie to the sport and he is new to the forums, so give him a bit of a warm welcome eh? No way to better scare off potential people to our sport than to give them unneccessary sarcasm...

To answer you question, yes I believe it is growing, but not as quickly as paintball. A few years back I had never heard of airsoft ( I found it while searching for paintball stuff). Now it seems to be taking hold in Walmarts aroudn the world with cheap springers, and you'll see cheap springers all over the place. I dont think this is necessarily a good thing because it starts to bring a lot of immaturity to the sport which can then lead to bad press which can then lead to bad legislation. Hopefully as the sport expands, it will attract more mature players as well.

Note I said more mature players, not older players. Young players are great as well, so long as they act responsibly.

I never said it wasn't a valid point.

But people should THINK, before they type.

When people don't think, bad things happen.

Example: JFK calling himself a jelly donut.

My reply wasn't written with any harshnocity.

But yes, the growth of Airsoft shall be grand.

However, our Wal Mart doesn't have any Airsoft.

No? Ours does, we get all sorts of stuff like Hardballer type shotguns and see through EBBs. No GBBs or AEGs obviously, just $20 stuff.

Also, no brand names, I've never heard of any of the names before.

Well, we don't have Airsoft, but we have random air pistols and such that shoot metal BBs and pellets for "varmints."

my local meijers has UHC mp5-sd3s. even though they are $70, they still do have them. i would say that airsoft is growing. every once in a while i will hear a close friend talking about airsoft to someone and ill be like, "dude, you play too?" i found out about airsoft when i saw the guns on ebay when my brother was looking for paintball stuff. i then found airsoftohio through a quick google search for airsoft in ohio, and here i am today.

And if you hadn't made that Google, we'd not have the great Nota to post with.

Yay for Google!

there is no doubt airsoft is growing but the problem is is do we want it to grow any more than it already is? in my theory i believe as airsoft becomes more mainstream that immature lil kids will blast out their friends eyes and get the sport banned or even ghetto gangsters using an exact replica of an m4a1 to rob his nearest gas station will get the government to ban the sport for good and that would be a terrible tragedy!!!!:(
