Don't give up yet. The sport will still be around when your older and away from you parents. You just have to wait.

i had to wait 2 or 3 years from my initial proposal of the sport, but the time was well spent researching and reading reviews and gaining knowledge. dont let it get you down and dont bother them about it. ask again next year.

my dad's biggest concern was letting me play around in the woods with total strangers..... cause nobody around me plays... he said he wouldnt drive me down to play, and they wont even let me get one to shoot around in the backyard because were getting another dog and my mom doesnt want the dog eating the bb's

well first of all i've shot BBs all around my house and my dog as well as the neighbor's dogs don't eat the BBs. mine is a maltese and the neighbors have labs or something like them. so that concern can be thrown out the window. as for the strangers thing my mom is the same way. i just blow her off everytime and say that i have friends going with me to all the games i go to. that way she is cool with it. now i know this cant possibly work for everyone, just an idea though. 'course all my friends play airsoft so they can cover for me. :)

If I remember correctly, Sgt Horvath's parents were ardent anti gun folks who lived in an urban area. We all agreed in that discussion that it was better not to play airsoft in downtown Dayton or Cinci.
I also remember that there was a big discussion regarding Horvath's state of mind and why his parents wouldn't let him play airsoft. It came down to a big flame war that became intrinsically entwined with his parent's dissatisfaction with his choice to join the Marines.
I would just like to say that I found airsoft when I was in the Marines. However, I found it when I was 19 (two years after I joined). Those first years I was busy as hell and didn't have time for airsoft. Unless you join the reserves or get a stateside desk job, you too will never have the time or money to play airsoft kid. Now that I am out of the Marines and paying a mortgage, guess what? I barely have the time or money to play airsoft. Go figure. So good luck Sgt Horvath.

LOL, why would a dog eat BBs? Dogs have a pretty good sense of what they can eat and what they can't... maybe if you used a raw steak as a target and the BBs had little peices of meat stuck to them I could see a dog trying to eat them.. for about 2 seconds before they realized they were not edible and spit them out.... :)

This is the AK-74 guy from section 8 (brian). Don't give up on your parents dude. See if they know full well what airsoft is, and tell them that it'll keep you out if texx's street gang.
As for the dogs eating the BB's, hit wm with the bio-degratable ones. They start to dissapear overnight.

Still thought, dogs wont eat bb's, I just tried to feed my dog one, and it didnt work. Besides, if a dog eats them, how bad could it be? Worse than eating cat poop? Or his own poop? Or anything.

BBs, being plastic, are inert, it wouldn't hurt the dog at all... maybe give him an upset stomach I guess.. but eventually that too will pass. :)

Also about the parents thing....mine were fine with it, they just thought it was a waste of money, and that I'd be tired of it in a month or something. My only parent problem is going to any events down in Dayton area, with that field being 3 1/2 hours away.

My parents were really pissy about letting me get my first springer. All you have to do is convince them. I told my parents in an angry rage, and they blew me off. Then I tried again but I was sincere, and just said "You let 17 year old football jocks blast me, from 2:30-5:00, every-damn-day and a few plastic bb's on weekends is going to hurt me"? Then they busted out the, I don't like guns thing. Well me being my suave self I said that learning about guns is just like learning about anything else it's just something that requires lots more safety and even more attention. They came around and got me a few springers. Just try and try again brother.

Horvath, just keep on trucking, and make sure you keep your cool when talking it over with your parents. Bringing it up ocassionaly (don't overdo it) and preseting a consistent point seemed to work for me. Mind you, it took a long time (took a year to get them to allow a PB gun, then 6 more months for airsoft), but it was worth it!
Just keep trucking and don't give up.

Ugh, Mom power...
Sgt. Horvath-
I dont know how long you have been trying to get your parents to let you play airsoft, but if it has been quite a while, then I doubt being persistent is the way to go. They might get annoyed that you are not "respecting their descision" and become even more stern about you not playing.
If you stick with reading and learning from as many people as you can about the sport, the day you are free to do as you please you will be that much more informed. Plus, it is worth the wait.
Respect your parents, they loved you enough to literally wash your own *** for you when you were a baby and spend hundreds of their earned dollars to raise you, and years of their time to make you into a respectable man one day. I will agree that with what you have shown that your parents are obviously biased on the subject of guns themselves. For them to force their personal opinion on you like that is very wrong from my point of view. I know in my younger years I always respected and did what my mother told me, but never did she force her own biases upon me. But I guess every parent is not like my own.
If they are feeding you lame excuses like the dog eating BB's, they are not doing what they should be doing as parents. I would personally just ask them in a respectful manner the reason they wish for you to remain "airsoft-less". If they feed you more excuses like that, then it is obvious they are biased and you wont be getting anywhere anytime soon. If they say "because I said", then that is pure fascism, and you should do what you want to do with airsoft as soon as you are old enough to make those decisions on your own behalf. Either way, you can't escape their judgement unless you become emancipated, and that is not worth a few replica guns at all.
Either way, you are stuck. I wouldn't recommend harassing them about getting a gun constantly, or you might face their retalliation. If you cannot convince them to let you participate in this hobby, then enter it of your own free will as soon as you are old enough, if you still keep interest. Keep reading and learning from those of us who play, and read reviews so when you are finally able to join the hobby, you will be certain of what gun you want to purchase, who you will play with and also be twice if not three times more knowledgable than the common "newbie". Other than that, stick it out if you cant change their minds. When you get that first AEG, you will know it was worth the wait.
I wish you the best of luck.
Edit: Spelling Errors.

or find someone (like texx) w/ some cheapo springers and ask your parents if you can get just one cheap gun to show them what they are, because they arent being fair by not even giving it a chance. just make sure the gun it very weak and underpowered so they will think, "these cant do any damage, buy as many as you want." it just may work....

Sgt. Horvath, I suggest getting permission from your parents before you have someone like"Texx" send you a springer. If you don't it'll only make your wait to join us even longer. Be smart.
Say good-nite to this one.
