Alright guys here it goes...
I've been reserching lots about upgrading my TM M4A1. Well I actually herd that getting a aluminum piston and aluminum piston head will actually crack a stock gear box. Well I'm gonna upgrade my gun to achieve say 400-450fps, I guess my question for you all is what would I need to upgrade my gear box to get that velocity safefully?
I know that I need say a Systema M120 to M140 spring, also metal bushings, maybe new gears:confused: , cylinder head, what else????

Well if you have the money, get an Systema M120 Full Tune Up kit (which will provide all the necesary gearbox parts) and a reinforced gearbox of any type. If you dont have the money, get an M120, Metal bushings, steel spring guide, and a Poly carbonate piston or aluminum. That should last you a decent amount of time.
Please note if you upgraded above 400 FPS most places with in ohio will make you go semi-auto only, and have an engagment distance of 50 feet.
So, recomendation: Don't loose the good idea/bad Idea game. Stay under 400 FPS.

You could best achieve this of coarse with an FTK, as described, but, if your wanting to just customize using your own skill/parts, youll want ATLEAST the following for starting purposes:
Bushings
Spring Guide
Piston - Polycarb
Piston Head - Polycarb
PDI 210% Spring
If it was me, I would also replace just about everything I could, gears, tappet plate, nozzle and cylinder head to finish it off. And of coarse, a reinforced gearbox. In my opinion, anything over about 375 to 400 depending on gearbox's, need to be properly equipped or youll end up paying in the end.

Alright guys I get the help, thanks guys.
So I take it I would need a new polycarbon piston w/head, spring guide, spring (ok ok so say a M110-M120), and new bushings. Got that once cleared up...
On the other hand what really is the difference between ver. II and ver. III gear boxes? Is one better then the other?
So If I upgrade my gun it should lighten my pocket book to bad? I'm thinking around $50 for my parts...
try at least 100 to 150 for a decently durabile v2 mech box upgrade.
The difference between the V2 and V3 mech boxes is their durability. The V3 mech box, found in the AK series, and a few others, is much stronger then the the V2, which is found more common, especially in the M16/mp5/etc series.
The V2 will break very easily.
For a decent -400~ upgrade I'd recomend this:
Systema Helical Gears, flat ratio
Systema Piston and piston head (some say poly carb, some say aluminum.)
Re-enforced Mech box of your choice (if putting it in a V2 gear box gun)
guader sp110 spring, PDI 150%, or systema m100 (M120 will put you at about 420-430)
systema spring guide with bearings
Metal bushings (Classic army, systema, guarder, all about the same. I like systema parts.)
Higher FPS you go, more crap you break, more you gotta fix.
In all honest, for bang for your buck, get a pre-built V2 pro-gear m120 mech box. It will shoot a little over 400 ('bout 420 right off, but it will wear down to the 400 line). They run 200-250, come with a pro-gear re-enforced mexh box, with a systema FTK and systema wiring.

Just a note, ive heard horror stories about those prebuilt mechboxes, make SURE you check them before you actually put them in. It halfway defeats the purpose of buying one, but it is MUCH easier to just open it up, check for some shimming error, or anything else that may be a problem, and wasting 15 mins then wasting 4 hours and frustration.

ok I'm a stupid idoit....newbie..lol
I see that field rules only allow 350fps full auto...so thats what I want.
Ok Systema M100 spring! Maybe M90 If needed.
Thats all I need fokes right? Just having the M100 spring shouldn't do that much dammage over a long period of time.
THanks guys I believe this raps up things here.
And also..I can only carry 2k bb's on the field...well I guess all I need now are 6 Hi-cap mags and I'm good to fire away.
Ty guys!

350 fps is the limit? that is sad...Over here in NJ its up to 500 for full auto...just range limits over 450. And Windex get the spring, and metal bushings are needed as well. Since the restrictions are only 350 fps, u should save up for a systema super hi-speed 350 fps FTK so u can have crazy rpm and still be below the limits...

Actually, its up to 400 FPS with full auto, just 350-400 there is a 25 foot engagement limit. Thats all. 400-450 is a 50 foot, and 450-500 is 75 foot. Last I heard the 500-550 for bolt action wasnt passed or approved. Truthfully, I think we could increase the limits, if we had better player respect of the rules and limits. It just seems about every game we ALWAYS have someone hit or hurt minorly or moderately and causes a problem. Decoy seems to take it quite often :) once a hard hitting tooth, hurt a bunch, and ive seen some blood from head hits and such. Just always seems like people are either not following limits, or they just do seem to be that bad at these distances.
