I've heard about these guys in a lot of the events. What exactally do Shadow Squads do? Just random stuff during your mission, or do they "shadow" you and make sure your out?
I'm new to this whole airsoft thing.

Shadow Squad guys are based off a TV show about 2 years back that put teams of real operators into missions and scored them based on various things. To make things level and similar for each team, on group of guys always played OPFor. (opposing force) They called themselves the Shadow Squad. At the very bottem of the forums the guys here have at least put on two combat missions and possibly a third.

they were mainly used in wallace's cm1 and cm2 and hopefully soon to be cm3. if you had read the thread about the event (cm3), he definitely did explain what shadow squads are and what they do very well. the little flasky thing at the top that says search is your friend.

bigpepper,
I was part of Shadow Squad. I am with OVMB. Our purpose in the CM's was to pose the "challenge" of the missions for those participating. We were the "bad guys" you had to go through/defeat in order to successfully be awarded points. The scenarios were timed and it was up to the challenging teams to be tactful and work together to win each game. We repeated the same set-up every time we ran it and ran the same field placements to assure fairness to all. It was fun but ALOT of complaints were heard that teams were making it IMPOSSIBLE to win. This was the case on one of my missions and I had only 4 others on the field with me spread out and I was in plain view!!!
It is actually harder than what it seems if you are not team movement based. You have to use tactics and communication in order to be successful at CM events...remember that.

Understand gentlemen...Deviant is 6' 5" goes a generous 290/300. Tough target to miss. When he crouches, most of you could hide in his shadow. He blocks out the sun. Sabre is 6' 6" and maybe 260 since he lost weight. Stand them side by side, they are a two man solar eclipse. The reason you missed them is because the lack of light disoriented your vision. When playing against them bring appropriate night vision equipment. ;)

Correction Spook....I weighed last at 272. :D I would imagine the reason they paid no attention me or Sabre was because they were too scared to attack after seeing a real live EWOK with a Thompson running around.
I would imagine SOME thought that you were COUSIN IT moving around.
I do agree, however, that most teams failed to use their noodles on how to TACTFULLY pull off the sceanrio in the time allotted....they simply ran in, got killed, and did the best they could. I do hope that some players there learned a little and made plans to at least stressed the need for team unity and organization before attempting CM3.

Think about it tho Shawn...we do have some BEEF on OVMB brother, you, Sabre, Steak, Flint, Jesse, Chowdah, etc etc, and when you count some of the RTPA guys like Psycho (6-2/230), Moose (6-3/200+), Merc our new guy 6'+, that is quite impressive. Stack em side by side, the enemy would need NVGs just to walk 5 ft. Then you all duck and let the sun hit em right in the face, like a tactical nuke going off. Then us little ankle biters can just shoot em all while they try to recover.

How would you go about becoming part of a "Shadow Squad"?

wallace only asks certain teams with good reputations because he only wants reliable people to be on the shadow squad becuase otherwise he would be left a few men down. if you READ the cm3 event thread in the upcoming AO forum, you would read this as i was the one who originally brought up the question.

What if you're not currently in a team and would like to join shadow squad as a "mercenary"?

he ONLY ASKS RELIABLE TEAMS!! not individuals. read the cm3 thread in the events section. i already said this. wallace has said it before. man, is it too late or am i running out of patience because i always hae to repeat myself? he asks the reliable teams because he knows he can count on them. he wont just let anybody be on the shadow squad.
your question was directly answered in the cm3 thread.

notabob,
We did. First, Shadow Squad MUST be highly disciplined and we've (only) invited several well-established AO teams to perform the duty, and MANY of them turned the offer down - they'd rather play then work as the shadow squad, and I don't blame them. Once I told them what the SS have to do they all got scared away. Furthermore, to maintain the quality of the event I will NOT just randomly allow anyone to be on the SS. The last we need is some guy that make all the promise in the world and ended up not showing up on the game day. I am not saying you are not dependable, but there are enough un-dependable people in the world that I will not risk my events.

and this and much more regarding shadow squad, in the same thread, even in the same post, would have been revealed if the little flashy search button at the top of the page had been used...

i love AO, its just gotten a little trashy lately...you kow what i mean agent? we should start an official "texx zone." you have to have a certain number of blunt, corrective posts first before you can join though...
