This is for those who wanted to know how the scenario went with the use of civilians.

All action took place in the fictional nation of As Crac All place names amd people groups are pronounced exactly the way they sound.

Scenario 1

1st Recon PLT, 82nd ABN was inserted 1/2 mile due East of Bum Phuc village where enemy guerilla activity had last been reported. A CIA asset, codename BONES, was in the area amongst the civilians locating enemy positions and weapons caches and transmitting info to 1/82 via a low-level bandwidth clandestine channel.

Guerilla forces located at Pork Me in the neighboring country of Louse have been crossing the Phun Ke river and terrorizing the population. The area was lightly populated with civilians of a peculiar religious sect which worshipped chocolate. They were often heard muttering Iwana Kan DeBar. The Peeg Pu guerillas came and stole their sacred stashes of chocolate, which of course inflamed the natives.

The local physican Dr. Quac Phuul maintained a clinic at Drop Trou and was friendly by and large to both sides. The Louse-based guerillas respected Phuul and the clinic, and so it was a semi-neutral area. All of the civilians were armed with small arms, which was typical of the region.

The 1/82d Recon came into Bum Phuc at roughly 1200 hours local and proceeded to speak to civilians. The 1/82d had been supplied with sufficient local currency to illicit information from villagers. Peeg Pu guerilla forces ambushed the 1/82d just outside of Bom Dout, a collection of ruins along the road to Drop Trou. Casualties were taken to the clinic and treated by Dr Phuul.

2 weapons caches were found in a subsequent sweep and destroyed. A Mk 1 flamethrower was found in one cache at Con Creet and an RPG in another cache at Bom Dout.

1/82d reported to HQ that the Peeg Pu were much more organized than intelligence had led them to believe. Due to the fact that the Peeg Pu dragged away their dead, no enemy body count was available. The 1/82d sustained numerous casualties from Peeg Pu guerillas shooting from Louse into As Crac. Rules of engagement did not permit 1/82d to engage enemy forces on their side of the Phun Ke.

INTERLUDE

An AH-6 Little Bird on a classified mission was shot down by RPG fire from Pork Me. The pilot was killed and the passenger, CIA operations officer code-named BONES, was thrown clear of the wreckage, but sustained a concussion. He wandered about the countryside in a state of confusion babbling in Russian.

Scenario 2

1/82d Recon was radioed and given the mission to search for and recover BONES due to the sensitive nature of the information he possessed. Civilians at Bum Phuc were questioned and minimal intelligence was gained. Some civilians had been harassed by the Peeg Pu and their personal weapons confiscated. Some of their relatives were shot. The 1/82d used this info to gain the support of the villagers and encouraged them to become more aggressive against the Peeg Pu. This led to the formation of a Civilian Defense Group clandestinely led by Dr Phuul. At one point, Dr. Phuul ambushed a group of guerillas. At another, the CDG took out a group of guerillas who had captured BONES and were taking him to Pork Me for interrogation. The CDG then took BONES to Bom Dout where he was recaptured in a brief firefight. Dr. Quac Phuul was killed and his son Yura treated several members of the 1/82d. The 1/82d was eventually wiped out by the Peeg Pu in a series of brief encounters.

INTERLUDE

The CIA finally received approval from the highest level to deal with the constant incursions of the Peeg Pu and sent an SOG into Louse to once and for all deal with the Peeg Pu.

Scenario 3

2/82d was sent into the area for more Counter Guerilla operations. The Peeg Pu made an assault through the Phun Ke river valley into the B Gaas Forest and inflicted heavy casualties on 2/82d Recon, which brought their wounded to Drop Trou for treatment. SOG members received information from Dr. Yura Phuul, the son of the late Quac Phuul, who was making rounds in Bum Phuc, that it was possible to slip into Louse from Bum Phuc via a low spot in the Phun Ke river. The SOG did just that and proceeded down the Phun Ke and into Louse to ambush the Peeg Pu headquarters at Pork Me. The weather turned and the operation had to be aborted. The CDG assisted in the assault on Pork Me.

CONCLUSION

The use of "civilians" works. It added an interesting dimension to the game and forced both sides to be on their toes. The guerillas soon learned that they didn't own As Crac as they thought they did. The US forces learned not to underestimate the wily guerillas.

We used two sets of hit rules to make the scenarios realistic.

1. US forces used a 3-hit and dead rule. They were permitted to treat each other in the field or use the clinic at Drop Trou. In the 3rd scenario, dead Recon players respawned as the SOG team with a totally new mission and ROE with permitted them to operate inside Louse.

2. Guerillas used a run away and die rule. Dead guerillas were to run out of sight, count to 60 and return. They could also respawn in the clinic which has 3 entrances. This gave the impression that the area was infested with guerillas. It worked very well.

There was minor confusion which was quickly cleared up regarding where the guerillas could respawn. The answer was anywhere, so long as they moved away out of sight and counted to 60. Guerillas seen during their respawn had to move again and restart their count. The chasing of respawning guerillas was not permitted.
