I am lucky enough to have a neighbor who has a go kart & likes airsoft. We are currently thinking that we should mount a rear gunners seat above the engine just behind the roll cage with a swivel mount and we are also in the proses of adding a swivel mount in front of the passenger seat. what are your thoughts?

It sounds like it could get expensive. If the gokart has an open top, you could just do the old shoot n' duck.

I'm thinking you oughta stick to the passenger gunner. I'd think the extra weight in the back will make your go-cart prone to wheelies, and you might wind up dumping your rear gunner! LOL
Maybe give the driver a swivel, and turn the passenger seat to the rear?

Only problem with a swivel mount for the driver is that how would he drive:confused:

Very carfully and slowly. Hopefully.
You want my thoughts,
Ditch the idea of a person on the back shooting, and stick with just the passenger shooting. Then spend the extra money you saved by not adding another seat to the back on plexi-glass, and armor the heck out of your go cart.

Well, not sure what kinda firepower you're talking about mounting up there, but if you offset the swivel to the left, and mount some sort of personal weapon there (not a SAW or M60) the driver should still have an arc of fire from 10 to 1-2 o'clock...needless to say, if he's driving at the time, his aim won't be great (and he should be concentrating on driving anyway) but if you're going for the FAV look, that'd do it.
Getting 360 degree arc of fire on a two-man vehicle is gonna be tough, especially if you play it safe and let the driver focus on driving. I suppose if you or your buddies are handy with welding and don't mind spending some $$$ at Lowe's or home depot, it'd be possible to make a ring mount above the passenger allowing you to traverse a full 360.
What kind of go-kart is it (model, make, h.p., etc. a link would be nice!)? It'd be a lot easier to come up with ideas if we could see what we've got to work with!

Check out armoredfistpaintball.com They've made tanks and other fighting vehicles out of go-carts, golfcarts, ATVs, pickup trucks and 6-wheelers. I know they're paintballers, but they have a lot of good vehicle ideas that may help you out.

This sounds great! How would you armor it though? Wood can rot, and welding a bunch of metal might make it really heavy, right?

There is a proplem with plexy glass. It cracks. One day at a usual airsoft war, it was lunch time. the war was at my friend's house and he always is making armor and special riot gear for airsoft. (he is working on an old dune buggie that is from the 1970s that has a thrid back seat wth ring mount) He showed me his inch think aluminum swat shield with a plexy glass window in the middle. (inspired of the xbox gmae counter strike) He took his M100 upgraded ICS mp5a4 and fired it from twenty feet back at the shield's window. It cracked. He now desined it to have easy-to-replace window inserts. This was not a very powerful gun. Its velocity is 360fps. You better do tests be for buying alot of plexy glass to find it swiss cheese after a war.

Reminds me of one of the new patrol dune buggies the army has. I would definately stick the gunner facing forward. Not sence in shooting backwards, plus the driver could line you up for a good shot, and a good degree of range, incase the target moves.

Why cant we mount the passenger seat to face sideways? that way the gunner can position himself at an angle to effectively fire forewards, to the side, and backwards so some extent. If he has some leg room then that would work fine.

All you have to do is put a gun where the passenger shoots and mount it on a swivel, mounting the gunner to the side of the vehicle would be unsafe because he could hit something hes passing, but if you just mounted the gun at the front you get all you need, a gun that shoots anything ahead of you.
