Operation: Anzio
By bryanonfilm

The following scenario would be one that is to be enjoyed by all. Though the theme is WWII battle, all non-era weapons and gear can be used. We hope to get at least 20 people, but if more show up then it’ll work out even better. After every Point match, players in the waiting area may rejoin. The players participating in this scenario have to be brutally honest, as there are many key factors in this scenario that rely on responsibility and honesty. Without, this scenario would never work.

The story starts out with the actual liberation of Anzio (Point 1), then flashes back to the events that lead up to this landing (Points 2-5). The scenario ends with Point 6, an epic battle for the Gustav Line, which opened the gates of the Road to Rome.

Teams will be of the following:

Allied Forces:
Americans (1/4)
British (1/4)

Axis Forces:
Germans (1/2)

Story:
During the early morning hours of 22 January 1944, troops of the Fifth Army swarmed ashore on a fifteen-mile stretch of Italian beach near the prewar resort towns of Anzio and Nettuno. The landings were carried out so flawlessly and German resistance was so light that British and American units gained their first day's objectives by noon, moving three to four miles inland by nightfall.

The location of the Allied landings, thirty miles south of Rome and fifty-five miles northwest of the main line of resistance running from Minturno on the Tyrrhenian Sea to Ortona on the Adriatic, surprised local German commanders, who had been assured by their superiors that an amphibious assault would not take place during January or February. Thus when the landing occurred the Germans were unprepared to react offensively. Within a week, however, as Allied troops consolidated their positions and prepared to break out of the beachhead, the Germans gathered troops to eliminate what Adolf Hitler called the "Anzio abscess." The next four months would see some of the most savage fighting of World War II.

Scenario:
The scenario would work out with different points. The basis would be a half day (maybe full day) operation, but between points it would be possible to take a break. If you choose not to break, the points can be linked for the full scenario.
If a certain Point match was favored, it can be replayed, as this scenario is cut up into distinct parts.

Refer to this map for placement of key areas.

Point 1:

Story:
Following the successful Allied landings at Calabria, Taranto, and Salerno in early September 1943 and the unconditional surrender of Italy that same month, German forces had quickly disarmed their former allies and begun a slow, fighting withdrawal to the north. Defending two hastily prepared, fortified belts stretching from coast to coast, the Germans significantly slowed the Allied advance.

Background:
The Germans are split in 2 teams of 5, G1 and G2. G1 is defending D1, and G2 is defending D2. Both of these points should be somewhat near each other, depending on the size of the land. They should be elevated or at least have some type of geographic advantage over the attackers.
The Allied troops start in Allied Base #1.

German Goals:
* Hold your given posts for 45 minutes
* Retreat to C2, 2/5 of team must survive

Allied Goals:
* Eliminate more than 3/5 of German Team

Rules:
*Germans have geographical defending advantage, Allies have armor advantage (Allies can take more bullet hits than Germans)
*A German death is 2:1 (2 hits to the body or one to the head)
*An Allied death is 4:2
*A German soldier cannot leave his post to defend.
*A German soldier can only respawn 1 time (Axis respawn base #1 or #2)
*An Allied soldier can respawn 2 times (Allied respawn base #1)
*After respawn limit is up, you must go to the waiting area till the next point match.
*Once evacuation time is up, the German soldier who is keeping time must scream “EVACUATION”. At this time the German’s have to retreat to C2. If a soldier is killed during the retreat, they must go to the waiting area till the next point match.

Point 2:

Story:
Luftwaffe Field Marshal Albert Kesselring, whom Hitler had appointed as commander of all German forces in Italy on 6 November 1943, promised to hold the Gustav Line for at least six months. As long as the line was maintained it prevented the Fifth Army from advancing into the Liri valley, the most logical and direct route to the major Allied objective of Rome. The validity of Kesselring's strategy was demonstrated repeatedly between October 1943 and January 1944 as the Allies launched numerous costly attacks against well-entrenched enemy forces. This is in the early months of the Gustav Line, before the actual landing on Anzio. Over one air raid, a few Allied bombers went down. They are now in deep enemy territory with little equipment.

Background:
The Germans are deeply entrenched in C3. They have all the ammo they’ll ever need. The British Allied forces are shot down and start in Allied Crash Site. They have very little ammo left, but a lot of armor. The American Allied forces are sent in to rescue the British, but with weapons taken from the local militia (semi-auto). They start in Allied Base #2.

German Goals:
*Eliminate more than 3/5 of the downed British troops

Allied Goals:
*American: Bring at least 2/5 of downed British troops back to Allied Base #2
*British: Get at least 2/5 of your troops back to Allied Base #2

Rules:
*A German death is 3:1
*An Allied British death is 4:2
*An Allied American death is 2:1
*A German soldier CAN leave C3 if they choose so, but cannot venture too far away from post
*An Allied British soldier CANNOT RESPAWN AT ALL. They must go to waiting area upon death.
*A German soldier CANNOT RESPAWN AT ALL. They must go to waiting area upon death.
*An Allied American soldier can respawn once (Allied respawn base #2)
*An Allied British soldier can only use 1 magazine (hi cap or standard) and must use semi-auto fire.
*An Allied American soldier can only use semi-auto fire.
*A German soldier can use full-auto fire.

Point 3:

Story:
After the rescue of their troops, the Allied forces are lower on supplies than ever. The idea for an amphibious operation near Rome had originated in late October 1943 when it became obvious that the Germans were going to fight for the entire peninsula rather than withdraw to northern Italy. The Allied advance following the Salerno invasion was proving so arduous, due to poor weather, rough terrain, and stiffening resistance, that General Dwight D. Eisenhower pessimistically told the Anglo-American Combined Chiefs of Staff that there would be very hard and bitter fighting before the Allies could hope to reach Rome. As a result, Allied planners were looking for ways to break out of the costly struggle for each ridge and valley, which was consuming enormous numbers of men and scarce supplies.
The Allied forces heard news of an ammo drop in position T2. There were 3 main supply boxes, but they are scattered among the outskirts of Tremoli. These boxes must be found, or the Allied troops will surely lose this battle.

Background:
The German troops are regrouping from their attacked entrenched positions. The two German troops (G1 and G2), will each start at positions C4 and C5. The supply “boxes” will be in 3 random positions on the map, around the area of T2. The Allied Base is set up at Allied Base #3, this is where our Allied soldiers start.

German Goals:
*Keep the supply boxes from being brought back to Allied Base #3.

Allied Goals:
*Return all 3 supply boxes to Allied Base #3 at all costs.

Rules:
*A German death is 2:1
*An Allied death is 3:2
*German soldiers may move around as they please, there is no post to attend to.
*There is no respawn for Axis or Allies! Troop reserves are far too low.
*A German soldier may move a supply box, but only one supply box, and he may carry it to it’s new destination for only 30 seconds. After 30 seconds of holding a supply box are up for a German soldier, he may not touch another supply box.
*An Allied soldier can hold supply boxes for as long as they need to.
*If shot holding a supply box, the soldier must leave the supply box in the exact spot of his/her death.

Point 4:

Story:
The Allied troops have successfully received supplies. The results weren’t as great as expected though, they still have to be conservative. The Tremoli incident still stands. The town is ordered for extermination of all Axis troops inside.

Note: This mission would work best in a small run down town setting, but if that requirement cannot be made, make sure the battlefield is open with mounds or objects for cover.

Background:
The German troops start out at German HQ #1, beyond the town of Tremoli. The Allied troops start out at Allied Base #4, on the mere outskirts of Tremoli. This battle will be a remembered one. The town of Tremoli is about to see the most action in its history.

German Goals:
*Eliminate all Allied soldiers, save Tremoli!

Allied Goals:
*Eliminate all German soldiers, take Tremoli!

Rules:
*A German death is 2:1
*An Allied death is 2:1
*All soldiers may move around as they please.
*All soldiers can respawn 3 times each.

Point 5:

Story:
When the Allies conducted a successful amphibious operation at Termoli on 2-3 October, landing behind German positions on the Adriatic front, hopes were raised that a similar, larger assault south of Rome could outflank the Gustav Line. Such an operation could facilitate a breakthrough along the main line of resistance in the south and cut German lines of retreat, supply, and communications. On 8 November British General Sir Harold R. L. G. Alexander, commander of the 15th Army Group (consisting of the Fifth and Eighth Armies under Lt. Gen. Mark W. Clark and General Sir Bernard L. Montgomery, respectively), passed down orders to Clark from the Combined Chiefs of Staff. They directed him to formulate a plan for landing a single division at Anzio (code-named Operation SHINGLE) on 20 December 1943 as part of a projected three-pronged Allied offensive. The subsequent lack of progress, however, and a chronic shortage of troops and shipping due to the ongoing buildup for the cross-Channel invasion of France (OVERLORD), soon made the initial landing date impractical. Clark had to be transported to an undisclosed location to speak over a secure line to his superiors.

Background:
The Allies begin in Allied Base #5. One British soldier is assigned as Clark. Only the Allies know which soldier Clark is. The Germans begin in C6. This match should be set in a fairly wooded area.

German Goals:
*Prevent Clark from communicating with his officers, eliminate him.

Allied Goals:
*Transport Clark to T3

Rules:
*A German death is 1:1
*An Allied death is 2:1
*Clark’s death is 4:2
*Clark may only use semi-auto fire.
*Decoys are allowed to trick the enemy, but when the real Clark is dead he must scream “CLARK DOWN”. This signals German victory.
*All soldiers may move around as they please.
* There is no respawn for Axis or Allies!

Point 6:

Story:
Defending two hastily prepared, fortified belts stretching from coast to coast, the Germans significantly slowed the Allied advance before settling into the Gustav Line, a third, more formidable and sophisticated defensive belt of interlocking positions on the high ground along the peninsula's narrowest point. The Germans intended to fight for every portion of this line. So do the Allies.

Background:
The Allied troops start in Allied Base #6. The G1 German troops start in C7 and the G2 German troops start in German HQ #2. C7 should be an uphill fortified position with little cover for the attackers. German HQ #2 is quite some distance from C7.

German Goals:
*Defend the Gustav line, kill all the Allies!

Allied Goals:*Destroy the Germans, pave the Road to Rome!

Rules:
*A German death is 2:1
*An Allied death is 2:1
*When a G1 German in C7 is killed, he must respawn at German HQ #2, and wait for C7 to be captured by the Allies. At this point, they may be sent into battle once more.
*G2 German soldiers in German HQ #2 must wait for the capture of C7 by the Allied troops before they can be sent into battle.
*On the attack of C7, Allies may only use semi-auto fire, but when C7 is captured by them, they may use full-auto fire for the rest of the battle.
*Germans can use full-auto fire at all times.
*An Allied soldier can respawn 5 times (Allied Base #6)
*A German G1 soldier can respawn 3 times.
*A German G2 soldier can respawn 3 times.
