View Full Version : Silencer on Gas Gun

I just recently (today) acquired a KWC M9. I am considering purchasing a metal threaded-barrel, and here is my question: Will I run into any difficulties having a silencer on my M9? I know that many gas guns do have silencers, but I was wondering if it would put any added stress on the barrel. Thanks for you help.

It may make the cycle rate of the slide slower, but I think some sort of high flow valve fixes that, not 100% sure though

Ok, thanks for the info.

The accuracy should be better, and the gun may be a little more front-heavy, but no real problems.

Phizz, the accuracy wil only improve if the bore of the silencer is THE SAME as the inner barrel, IE the silencer acts as a barrell extension- at which point, little or no actual sound suppression will occur because the snap of the gasses expanding will have no where to go to; a suppressor works by allowing a cloud of expanding air pressure to dissapate into a larger sound absorbant cavity than the original barrel, changing the amplitude and the pitch "tone."
here are some threads to furthur answer your suppressor questions...
here is some good info specific to the silencer on the Mk23, but adding the ratcheting of the slide on a GBB, this info SHOULD apply to any foam filled, larger bore suppressor.

http://www.airsoftohio.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=200 see my post on the physics of a silencer- also rates performancees of silencers on various weapons;
there are also many salient points not made by me of course
I am not the all knowing guru of airsoft, but I am a sound engineer and a firearms enthusiast and suppressors and the recording of sounds for firearms in broadcasting and video games has always been of deep interest to me as they never quite get it right. I hope this helps you.

To add further to what Cobalt cited.....
Not only must the bore ID match for the extension, any noticeable "gap" between the original barrel and the extension will degrade such "accuracy" as well, as it provides a point of variable contact between the original barrel and the extension.
True "accuracy" increases from such mock-suppressed systems comes from an actual one-piece, full-length inner barrel going through from the chamber to the muzzle throughout the length of the mock suppressor.
Case-in-point? The original Western Arms ProKillers I and II, and the ProKiller 2000s.
