Hey all,
Wanted to introduce myself as a newb to airsoft. My son got me interested after he told me his buddies were playing.
Not knowing a whole lot about it, I bought him an Umarex MP-5 Navy and Walther P99 combo. I thought it was a good starter pack to get him going. These are low FPS guns (250-300) my ex wife insisted he used, since he's only 10.
I immediately saw the limitations of these guns when we went out back and shot at cans, baloons abd paper plates. The guns only dent the cans from 30'. Weak sauce!
So after doing a little reserch on the web, I came across this site and a link to Airsoft Arms, which was less than 2 miles from my house.
I finally let the bug bite me and bought a Echo1 Stage Arms Mod 5 RIS.
I wish I could afford a CA or TM, but I've got to limit the toy purchases to a minimum at this time.
Anyhow, look forward to testing the waters here and hopefully getting some good advice on do's and dont's.
Later

Welcome aboard. One warning to you, once your bit by the bug, it's all over lol. I started out the same way, son wanted to go out and play so I bought some guns and then he didn't want to anymore lol. But it got me into it and now I'm hooked. So hope you enjoy it and look forward to seeing you out at some of the open's. Make sure to look at the forum rules and have fun.

Welcome to AO!, as far as do's and don'ts just follow forum rules and you'll be fine. If you have airsoft related questions, do a search, most questions newcomers have will already have been asked and answered on the forums. If you still can't find an answer there are a great bunch of guys and gals here with a wealth of experience who are happy to help.
You should come out to the open plays at Red Dragon in Hamersville (about 45 min. from Milford)and Valley Creek in Williamsburg (30 min. from Milford). They are a great place to get your feet wet in airsoft.

Thanks to everyone who responded. Unfortunately, I'm going to be traveling for work the next 6 weeks so I will have little time to get out and play. I will try to get out to an event or two ASAP.
Still need to get some BDUs, a decent side arm and some goodies before I play.
Cheers

You really don't need a sidearm. At least right off the bat. Unless you're going to be doing a lot of CQB, you may never use it.
