I will be going out in the next week to assess the field and determine where we will set boundries and so forth, and i will be taking pics then.

I will try and get an open game going in a couple of months depending on my weekend schedule.

My wife has a booth at the ohio renn fest and that is coming up real soon, so i will have our children on the weekends with only a small chance of a babysitter to be able to get out on the weekends.

I will check the AO schedule and time the open away from any other event as a courtesy to the other field owners. Schedule for sitter services for my kids and then get things going.

Just a little bit to note about the field. The gentleman who owns the field hasn't gotten much PB business lately, which is why he is opening it up to us ASers. So the field is starting to get a little wild again. I will be spending the next couple of months clearing out some undergrowth (anything prickly) and getting more added to the field. The obstacles in the field currently are geared for paintball which is great, but i want to add more flavor to the field eventually.

Anyone willing to lend a hand is welcome, i am sure we can work something out as a form of payment for the time and labor.

That's awesome. I, and a bunch of friends live in germantown and have been stuck in my small field.

This'll be great.

Count me in if it ever gets up and running.

I now have a map of the field. It is a little oddly shaped, but there is at least 15 acres of solid square land. I have some ideas on how i will expand the extra bits...

I just talked to a few of my friends. We're willing to help you get the field ready.

We'll do whatever it takes to get it airsoft-ready. It would be sweet to have a field literally not even a 10 minute drive away.

Ok, here is my schedule for the weekends between now and labor day.

8/1 - My daughter's birthday party
8/2 - I plan on going out there to clean up the field

8/8 - Canoe trip
8/9 - I believe this day is free and I plan on going out

8/15 - Valley Creek
8/16 - R&R

8/22 - Red Dragon
8/23 - R&R

8/29 - Blind fury is going on so, while i am not going, i have no plans
8/30 - up in the air right now, if the field gets ready by then no plans

9/5 - Ohio Renn Fest Starts

This is the tricky time frame for me. Between now and then, i will talk with my parents (who live in ashland, ky which is 3 1/2 hours away) and see about having them watch my children one weekend a month and maybe get some open plays starting in Sept.

I talked with the owner and while he said he doesn't let people play for free on the field, he is not concerned about making profit. My thoughts are that if we charge $10-15, and give him money for the field, the rest will be used to buy building materials to enhance the field. Once we get a couple open plays and money for building supplies then i will call upon the community once again to help construct buildings and what have you.

I have a few things in mind that will need construction:

Lots of smaller buildings for a Shanty Town
One large building (no roof) for a "Warehouse"
Trenches and bunkers
A "Rebel Camp"

The main building material i will be using is Pallets
I got the idea for building using them from here:

http://summerville-novascotia.com/PalletWoodShed/

They show a lot of things being built from pallets and since i live in cinci i am sure i can find a surplus of those.

Oh, I should maybe list some of the things you guys might want to bring.

Gloves - I want to clear out all the prickly thorn bushes and trees that out there. I don't enjoy playing in and around those so i will not ask other players to do so.

Overalls/Mechanic Jumper - This is a suggestion, if you don't want to have thorns tearing up your clothes a jumper or overalls are good.

Safety glasses - There are some thorned trees in the field (this is why the obstacle fields are roped off) and i plan on cutting them down.

Any tools you wish to bring would be a GREAT help. I know the owner has some tools, but i haven't talked to him about borrowing them.

Here is a list of things i expect i will need for clean up:
Chainsaw
Tree Trimmer
Weed Hacker
Tree Saws (bow saw and others)
And i MIGHT have access to a mulcher, but i am not counting on it.

I am now working on plans for a concession stand. When complete I will offer a variety of foods. As long as i can get someone to work it the full day, food will be available for the duration of the event.

Checked on some formica today at home depot and it wont be very expensive to get a counter top made.

I can tell you that the biggest amount of work that i will call for help on is the construction of buildings on the field. Brush clearing isn't going to be too hard, a truck, some hands, some blades, and some eyes.

Ok guys, it is official. I am going out this Sunday to start the clean up. All those willing to help can meet me there around 10am and we will work for as long as people still want to work.

Anyone who does show up and help out even if it is just for a couple of hours will get a free pass on the 2 games I have planned for this year. I will also feed and water you on sunday as well. I am sorry but i just don't have the funds to pay cash for help.

The address is:

13680 Friend Rd.
Germantown, OH 45327

When you pull into the drive park somewhere in the camping area (see map above)

I will also be going out next sunday same time as well. And if the field still needs cleanup i will start going out on weekdays.

UPDATE: Walked the entire field today and realized i forgot my camera. Honestly i was there to work and camera wasn't on my mind.

There is a ton of wild muli-rose bushes. Some of them so large we couldn't pull them out. There is also a few Black Locust trees that we could not pull.

The big thing is that there is probably 100 wild blackberry bushes in the fields. They actually had a lot of berries ripening on them, had I like blackberries i would have brought some home. Not everyday you get "organic" wild blackberries.

To note, the owner doesn't want the blackberry bushes pulled. If they get trampled they get trampled but he doesn't want them pulled. The other stuff i could not pull i am going to chop down or kill with round up.

There is not a whole lot of maintenance that has to be done, so next sunday should have everything ready. The big thing next sunday is going to be chopping out the big bushes/trees, clearing the paths and roads of overhang, and outlining the border of the field with nylon rope.

I already have a few more ideas on what i am going to build on the field and i have been designated manager of the field.

I will get with my friend and his team who has volunteered to be the hosting team and we will get a couple of games going.

Went out with Pvt_Bigg this eve to look at the field and start making preperations for the madness that will ensue. Unlike previous trips, I remebered myself a camera! These first few give you an idea of the setup and staging and some of the play field. I think I'm going to see about posting a few more in my profile to give everyone an idea how dense some of this forest is... and whewre some of the upcoming repairs are going.

I'm loving it, and the brainstorming session tonight was good. I look forward to helping get events up and rolling here!

Ok, I sat down with the Hohne Devils and together we are going to begin hosting events at this location. They had a lot of great input and combined with my input we have a lot of plans for this field.

Future plans of this field have switched up a bit, but definitely for the better.

Plans to include:
2 full towns.
CQB "Warehouse"
Fuel Depot
Communications Bunker
Artillery Bunkers
Chem Weapons Storage
Radar Station
Helipad

Up in the air plans:
Missile Launcher Platform

We are still working on some other details but be assure things will roll on this field pretty quickly.

But I have already secured some stuff for the field. That stuff just isnt ready quite yet.

Wow, blue, i must have missed your question completely...

I was going to update everyone on the status of this field, but blue asked some valid questions.

Games Types:
Right now we are going to be doing things like Down Pilot, Objective Capture and things like that. Without buildings our games are rather limited, but most of the proceeds of the games are going into construction.

I need to stress this point a lot. The field owner is only asking a small percentage of the entry fees for himself. ALL OTHER PROCEEDS go to building. I should be able to have 1 building per 10 people that show. I know Valley Creek had 40 people last game. If i can get that kind of turn out there will be buildings built by the next game.

I am meeting with the Devils soon to start hashing out the details of the games and when we are going to hold them.

The only thing that still needs to be done to the field is to remow some of the trails, and we need a new staging net. The current net is big enough to stop paintballs, but BBs can pass through them. Once we install the new net, and mow the trails, we will be ready to go.

The schedule will look something like this:

Remainder of this year will be milsim opens aka 1xx events.
We might run some winter games, but that has been yet to be determined.

Next year:
Milsim opens for the first couple of months, once we have enough buildings and objective points constructed, we will hold a 2xx event.
The overall goal is to be ready for an Operation by fall of next year.

We have already started discussing storyline and things for the Operation. This year and next will be trial and error for what works and what doesn't for the Operation.

When it comes closer to time for the operation, I will have a website put up just for that op. I have a lot of interesting ideas for you guys that will lead up to the OP.

Once this field is good to go I am sure it will be a frequent of mine, it's alot closer than anything else besides Springfield, but still a drive none the less.

Private Bigg,

Fyi, the 2xx series is something the Strikers created. They use it to distinguish their two types of events, the 1xx and 2xx series. I would not use their concept without their permission. Night OPEN 0XX and OPEN 0XX are team S.P.E.A.R.s way of labeling events and Stormblade uses MILSIM Open as theirs. It's unique to each team, something you might want to consider.

Private_BIGG
09-09-2009, 05:33 PM
If 2xx is a springfield only concept then i will respect that. This is the first i have heard this though EH. Through all the research that i looked through, it appeared to me that there was a structure to all of the events

0xx = open
1xx = milsim open
2xx = Milsim event
operation

It didnt occur to me that the 0,1,2 was based on location... funny how it works out that way though doesnt it...

We are going to be doing milsim open style events this year. I have no idea what we will call them next year for the larger milsim events if 2xx is out as an option. We will find something im sure...

I am ordering the new netting today. So that will be out of the way. Caine is going to consider the repair parts for the bridge.

Once that is done we will be pretty close to done and ready.

Minimum age right now is yet to be determined. We are going to has out some of that this weekend...

Just to clarify, from my understanding, Blade's 1xx series events are like regular open plays, no mag or BDU restrictions, shorter simpler scenarios. The 2xx series events are kind of like our MILSIM Opens w/ BDU and Mag restrictions and longer more complex scenarios. I believe SPEAR's OPEN XXX series is sort of a middle ground between the two, with longer more complex MILSIM type scenarios but lesser mag and BDU restrictions. EH/Blade feel free to correct me if I am mistaken!

Perhaps we should collaborate on a standard? :D

Being the guy who has to do most of the paper work and stuff for the Devils, I would be very appreciate if the big three were to offer a 'standardized guideline' on how the local fields should classify things.

If not no biggie, it will just give me an excuse to create multiple write ups and calls for voting that just bores my teammates to death.

09-09-2009, 08:59 PM
Ok, i am going to take the topic of event guidelines into a new thread so this one will stay on track about the new field.

I will also want to talk to Blade, EH, and Loc to figure out some scheduling so we don't overlap too much and upset one another. I know you guys are already on that page, but i want in, but i don't want to step on more toes than i have to.

The purpose of my field was to find a place where cinci and dayton people alike can go without feeling like they have to travel too far. Germantown is a nice 1/2 way point between springfield and east cinci. and i really hope to pull all you guys in. Thats why we are investing 100% of the proceeds into construction. I am hoping by our first op later next year, the buildings themselves will not just be erected, but finished (stucco or brick, and roofs). I am hoping for a once a month time slot for some sort of event. An open, a milsim style open, and full milsim non operation games.

To be honest with you BIGG, the players will pretty much dictate the schedule. With more than 6 fields available at any given time, there is no way we can get schedule to work. In my case, I have to please family and work too....so the way it is going right now, I will have to schedule when ever I can. Also don't forget, there should be another 2-3 fields opening before the end or early next year....

Blade, while i agree with you to an extent, here is what i am not overly concerned with:

Those other fields (no offense to field owners or event organizers) are pretty darn far away from here. The people from dayton or cinci that will go to those, are going to go for the sake of visiting a new field or because there is an OP, and will i think go no matter what event is going on here short of an OP. And there are plenty of overlaps between the miami valley fields and the cleveland/eastern ohio fields.

As for the cinci CQB, i talked to the guy last weekend to see how it's coming and what some of the details are going to be. With them being open to the public every day of the week, im not going to worry about taking business away from them. They have a good idea and if it hooks the public into playing, then they will have a niche that will make them a lot of money. I've never looked at this as a money making venture but i wish all the luck to those guys...

But you guys have been doing this a long time, and i respect your fields and respect you as organizers well enough that i don't want to step on toes too much. I am well aware that we might get overlap. It's bound to happen at least once. But i think we can handle the situations when they do happen as mature adults.

That's my plan anyway.

OK guys and gals, time for a little update:

Next Sunday (weather permitting) Sept. 20th, we are going out and repairing the bridge, putting up the new netting and roping off the playing field.

If this gets done, we are a go for our first event.

The tentative date for the first event is Oct 24th.

This will be an M1 event. Minimum age limit of 15 except for special invite.

If you come out Sept. 20th and help with the repairs, we will waiver your entry fees.

There MAY be 2 buildings completed for the Oct. event as well. This doesn't seem like a lot i know, but we are fronting money out of our own pockets to at least offer something besides a bunch of bunkers.

Bigg, make sure you post on the boards about what time you want us there, so that we can come out and help. Sides we havent met yet. Tell Caine or Makaiju to call me with details...this is Prowler, btw.

Currently the forcast looks bad for tomorrow, and I have had some issues come up. I don't know if Bigg will be back from Cali in time, so it is looking like a wash... we'll keep people updated on when we can head out there. We might just have to put in time during the work week.

Hey guys,

I feel i need to update on this a little bit.

I am back from my business trip to california. Had a great time out there, not as liberal as i expected it to be in a lot of places, venice beach on the other hand....... anyway, that's not what i came on to post about.

There are some things developing in my life that may slow down the progression of the field. I still have plans to move forward, but there may just be some bumps in the road here pretty soon.

For starters, my wife and i are having some marital problems. While it almost ended, I have agreed to try and work it out. At the same time, my wife's mother is on her death bed from cancer. At the time of this writing, it could be any moment that we get a call. I have made a commitment to put aside any issues i have with our marriage to be there for my wife as she will have only 1 surviving family member left and he lives in Georgia.

The reason i am sharing these details with you guys is because i don't want you to think that i am not committed to getting this field up and running. I am very committed as airsoft has in the past and will continue to serve as a distraction for things in my life that aren't positive.

Thanks in advance for any concerns and condolences.

I'm sure everyone here knows family comes first. I might be new to this forum and all, but my mother went through a long tough battle with cancer. I'm sorry to hear about your mother-in-law and your marital problems.

Take care man and don't hesitate to ask for any help when you need it working on the field. I want to start getting to know people on this site, I just have had some medical problems that were getting in the way quite a bit until recently.
