Hello everyone!
I guess I'll start with a little bit about myself. My name is Kyle, I live in Batavia (about 20 miles east of Cincinnati, in Clermont County), I'm 17 years old (18 this summer) and currently a freshman at the University of Cincinnati. Yes, a full-time college student at 17, I graduated in the class of '08 from Batavia High School (just verifying that because I tend to get a lot of "OMG REALLY?" from people that don't know me well). I don't really have a favorite color, but if I had to pick, it would probably be green. My favorite food is pizza. If anyone here lives in Clermont County, I think they'll agree with me that Gramma's Pizza is the absolute best. My dream car is a 1997 Toyota Supra Twin Turbo in Royal Sapphire Pearl, and has been ever since I played the first Gran Turismo on the original PlayStation (well before Fast and Furious!). Right now I'm driving a 1997 Honda del Sol Si in Milano Red, which is pretty much the Supra of Civics :p As you can probably tell by now, I'm really into cars. I also love video games, Battlefield 2 is probably my favorite (especially Point of Existence! Been playing that since the BF Vietnam days), but I also really like Oblivion, Call of Duty 2 and 4, Half Life 2, SOCOM, and the Gran Turismo series.
Anyways, on to airsoft. I don't really have a lot of experience in airsoft. My friend at one point had 3 or 4 guns (2 of them were cheap Wal-Mart springs, one was a pretty good spring Smith & Wesson, and the last was an MP5 AEG that he messed up when he tried to upgrade the spring), and we would get his neighbor who had a few spring guns and play in their back yards. I had a few friends who played more seriously, and would get 30 or so people for quick skirmishes in the woods, but I never played with them because I didn't actually own my own gun. Over this past Christmas break, my best friend came back to Cincinnati from Utah (he's a freshman at Brigham Young, and yes, he is Mormon) to visit. Apparently he had gotten into airsoft while he was out there, and bought himself a G36 AEG as well as a spring powered (I think) pistol. He brought those back with him (hidden in his luggage no less!), and on NYE we were over at a friend's house and he had another pistol with him that he had bought for his little brother. We decided we were going to "raid" another friend's party and "kidnap" a buddy that was over there, so we went out to Wally World and I got myself a cheapy $25 Mossy Oak spring pistol and a ski mask (can't imagine what the the cashier thought when she was ringing us up). After buying that, I started to really get interested in actually owning a respectable airsoft assault rifle and playing with some friends. So now here I am.
Right now I haven't bought anything, I'm currently in the process of researching different guns and finding something that I think will suit me. I really like G36C's, and I've considered the KWA G36C, because I hear that it is a fantastic gun for the price, and I've even seen the KWA internals (i.e. from their G36C and M4A1) compared to those of the Systema PTW's. However, I've also seen a lot of people recommend the KWA M4A1 over the G36C, stating that overall it is a little higher quality and is better platform for upgrades and the like. I've also just discovered GBB assault rifles, and watching videos of them on Youtube makes me feel like a little kid browsing for toys at a toy store. The AFC/WE M4A1 seems to be my best bet in that category, as it apparently is more durable than the more expensive WA M4A1 due to its all-metal construction (as opposed to ABS for the WA, and I've heard the WA likes to break), and significantly cheaper as well. I know that buying gas is going to cost me more money in the long run as opposed to charging a battery... but man, I really want a GBB now! Pistol-wise, I'm pretty set on a KSC Glock 19, as I'm a Glock fan and I've heard good things about KSC/KWA GBB's. Overall it looks like I'll be spending around $500-700 on the two guns (that includes the guns, batteries/gas, and extra mags). A little pricey, but I'm willing to pay to have a gun that I know will work when I need it to.
Gear is a different story though. I used to have some assorted camo items, but they've since been sold (or in the case of my actually pretty nice woodland BDU jacket, stolen), and I don't have a pair of boots that fit me (I've outgrown my last pair), so I'll need to start completely from scratch here as well. I'm a big big fan of Multicam, but after doing a bit of reading around here, it seems that MC can be somewhat of an annoyance when it comes to dividing people up for teams. First off, I'm going to ask, will wearing a MARPAT/Digital Woodland ACU with a Multicam vest and Multicam/OD pouches be difficult to place? (And also, would that be an effective combination of camo?) I don't want to wear tan as I'm also a big fan of stealth and blending in, and I'll be primarily playing in the summer, so I'd like wear something that will put me on the "green" teams when I play. Will the MARPAT/Woodland ACU be green enough that I will be distinguishable from the "tan" team? Anyways, I'm not sure on how to go about accruing my gear, since I don't have the funds to buy it all at once after getting the gun(s). I plan on getting high-quality gear (Propper's and HSGI where possible) that won't get destroyed if I play a little rough with it (and the warranty on HSGI stuff sounds nice, does Propper's have one too?). I'm not a geardo, but I am concerned with how my gear will look overall, how useful it actually is for me, and how it will hold up in the long run, because I want to do it right the first time and not have to spend more money replacing poor-quality items. I'm thinking Propper's Digital Woodland ACU with a woodland boonie (can't find a matching DW boonie, anyone know where to find one?), HSGI Weesatch in Multicam, HSGI drop leg pistol holster in Multicam, Field & Stream Gore-Tex hunting boots, Pantec balaclava in OD, Mechanix Wear M-Pact 2 gloves, and Bolle X800T goggles will be good to start with since it covers the basics. I might have to hold off on the Weesatch for a bit though at first, since it is a bit pricey. Eventually I'll want to get some more MOLLE pouches and bags as I need them, and I'll probably get a backpack/hydration pack as well (I like the Pantac MBSS pack, not too expensive, cordura fabric, and looks to be a perfect size for what I would use it for). Basically the setup I'm shooting for (no pun intended) is something that is light and doesn't take up a ton of space, but is also practical and can be used for whatever scenario I need it for. So, any recommendations on how I should go about this would be greatly appreciated.
Well, thats about it. Sorry for the huge paragraphs! I know some people don't want to wade through all that, and I don't blame you! I just wanted to let everyone know what I'm looking at and maybe get some helpful feedback on my decisions! Hope to see you guys on the battlefield sometime soon!
