Guys last night I was watching Black Hawk down. You know the movie where a helicopter goes down in Salmoili. Well anyway as I was watching, it came upon a seen where 2 guys went down to save the pilot in the helicopter that was being surrounded by samalions(spelled wrong) rebels. Now this is the part that has to do with my topic. The two guys that went down were excellent soldiers who could have easily held off the rebels, but they ran out of ammo. When you think about it a soldier can only carry like what maybe 10 magazines tops which are still only around like 300 rounds at the most. What if they could somehow incorporate the ammo we use in airsoft guns into real weapons? My hi-cap magazine can easily hold 400 rounds. I do understand that the airsoft bullets wouldn’t be nearly as accurate as the bullets we have today and designers would need to find a place to store the gunpowder, but this type of ammo has been used in the past with effectiveness to a certain degree. Could airsoft be the possible solution to this problem in the future for our weapons? Please post and share your ideas on this.

I don't know if you're suggesting that real guns shoot 6mm bb's or if they make hi cap real mags, but neither would work. Guys can continue on fighting once they've been shot with .223 rounds, 6mm plastic bbs would be like a scratch...

Im suggesting both. Also the bbs would be made of solid lead which would be shot using gunpowder which is leathal just like the muzzle loaders of the civil war.

So your saying were going back to muzzle loaders? How will we get the power behind the bb fast enough to keep up with todays guns that have a insane ROF?

There's a reason they don't use lead balls anymore. Gunshot wounds in the civil war caused more death from infection, instead of the actual wound itself if I'm not mistaken. And esentially, you're talking about a bb gun with gunpowder, which is still ineffective as compared to a 5.56 or 7.62. And where would the gunpowder be stored.

I understand that ROF would be a problem with these. But these wont be muzzle loaders theyd just use the ammo muzzle loaders used. Again this type of ammo would have drawbacks but it would have a advantage of having a ton of ammo on you which can still be leathal.

Or you could just keep more 5.56 ammo in your track. Oh wait, they do.
The two guys that went down were excellent soldiers who could have easily held off the rebels, but they ran out of ammo.
If they didn't bring enough ammo for their mission, I find it hard to believe they were good soldiers.

Nope. Most airsoft rigs carry more magazines than that, a plate carrier with 5 magazine pouches holds 15 magazines. A soldier could carry way mor emagazines than 10. Hell I've played with players who carry 20+ mags with them at any time.
What if they could somehow incorporate the ammo we use in airsoft guns into real weapons?
That would be a huge backwards step as far as thenology is concerned. We switched from balls back when muskets were phased out like 200 years ago. Rifle bullets are infinitely more effective than any ball being fired without the spin a rifle would give.

No

A guy cant carry 400 rounds of 5.56 ammo on him at a time. Soldiers carry the esentialls (water, limited supply of ammo, guns, gernades, smoke, etc.)
Yes he can. that's only 13 magazines(which only weigh about a pound a piece loaded), or two boxes on an m249, dude. You obviously have no idea what you're talking about.

Muscket rifles were around until the 1880's and they had rifled barrles which imrpoved accuracy trendmeslly so they are still good.

If you studied before you said that you would have known the rfiles from the late 1800's had a effective range of over 150 yards or 450 feet which is good enough for close range. Obvisley you dont know what your talking about.

They got rid of muskets in the 1800's for a reason. Like in airsoft, the best barrel won't make a difference if your using **** ammo, and alot of times, it will acutally make the gun worse. And as far as shooting at 150 yards, if we compare that to 1000 yards (I think) of an M4. I'd take the M4.
Threads is over, doesn't make any sense at best.

If you use this reasoning, every soldier that's ever ran out of ammo is a bad soldier. That's absolutely retarded on more levels than one. The human body is only able to sustain so much weight before it gives, or simply can't move. In addition to this, the soldiers present on that fateful day were told it wouldn't take very long, so how were they to know to bring 90+ magazines each.
Personally, I think they they did damn well considering they were two men against a mob of hundreds.
Both men he is referring to received the Medal of Honor for their actions, have you received such accolades? http://www.snipercentral.com/gordon.htm
