View Full Version : Airsoft Assault in Pittsburgh
So a small contingent of RTA set out to pittsburgh to check out this Airsoft Assault place we heard of.
Supposed to be an indoor cqb field that was airsoft only. We chose the nov 1st game because the national guard would be there.
All i can say is WOW. The place was completely geared towards airsoft. No paint anywhere. The store was all airsoft.
The field was very impressive. You could tell they spent weeks prepping the place to make it both challenging and fluid. You could also tell they spent a great deal of time on planning the games. Lots of different styles to play from objective based to elimination.
We played from 2pm til a little after 10pm at night i believe.
Staff... well one word.. awesome. They went through great lengths taking us around the place to get us familiar. Were extremely friendly..and then something strange happened.. as soon as the game was started it was all business. Ive never in my 6 years seen a game so well reffed. They were also extremely well tempered. You could tell they spent alot of time figuring out a ref system. Cheating was at the null level.. Any that i saw was obviously not intentional and most incidents were resolved in a split second between the players..
The staff created a hugely positive atmosphere that truly encouraged good sportsmanship. This is why although there were surely less seasoned players there as well as veterans; everyone was still able to have a great time.
I and RTA will be headed back there as much as possible.

its definately sparked my interest!
that guy in the google video does not know how to clear an obstacle. and he definately kept poking his gun into every intersection as if to start blindfiring.

While I'm sure he wouldn't mind your critique, you've never played with him. So unless you are going to email him, or show up in person to give him a lesson, keep your assumptions about his tactical knowledge to yourself please. The National Guard holds a monthly game their and before games start they do a free training session on room clearing and moving as a unit. They have beginner courses and advanced courses.
From what I saw of almost all of the players out there, they were rather good players. Very laid back group and minimal down time between games. Very honorable group and as John mentioned, the place was well reffed. I think out of the whole day our team personally saw one person have to be called out by a ref. That's rather good considering their were 35-40 people there at the attendance climax.
You expect tempers to flare and fists to fly in a high intensity place like this, never happened. I personally got a burst to my mostly unprotected face from about 8 feet and the guy called himself out in a very sporty manner.
We will definitely be back out their as we not only made a lot of friends but we had an absolute blast.
A little side note, they've added more to the field since that helmet cam video was taken. That open area in the middle is not as open now and has more bunkers.
FPS limit is 350, no MED and burst fire is allowed as you all saw in the video if you watched it. Hi-caps are allowed. Full face protection required for those under 18. And I highly recommend it for everyone.... and gloves. Ouch.

Actually guys, I was one of the few guys who built this place.
All of the guys staffing down there have a pretty laid back temperment, and are out to help as best as they can.
The guys selling Airsoft Gear, is Amped Airsoft
The place has come along way since its opening in June and I believe that the facility is currently around 20,000 sq ft. I'm not sure what is happening for the future as the lease is up in December, but I believe they are expanding into the basement as well (there is access to all levels from the playing field) which will bump the facility up to a little over 40,000 sq ft.

You did a good job then. That place is pretty amazing. They show no signs of quitting in December.
Ah yes, i forgot to mention Amped Airsoft. Talked to their smith for a while about some of his work and what-not. Told him a few of my tricks and he shared a few of his.

Airsoft assault review
i took a trip to AA expecting a little bit more than what i got.
First the setting up area has no outlets which is fine but batteries do die.
They used masking tape to represent each team by wrapping it around your arm which made it very hard to tell who was on your team (friendly fire).
The first 2 games i played were fun it was pretty much control a building making sure you rocket was in the center of it.
Than they played shotgun tag which was one guy has a shotgun and trys to stop people from running down the stairs which is stupid.
The last game i played was a free for all and your never out. the only time you are considered out is when you cant take anymore hits.. the ref played in this one so there was no one refing.. well i was done with that real fast
The wait between games was absolutely ridiculous anywere from 30min to a hour wait... There was no organization most of the players were around 15 years old which made it difficult to get anything ready.
The one thing i like is that Curt the owner was a good guy knew what he was talking about and was really friendly.
Average prices
the field was fun it had a great layout fast paced and fun when we did play.
thats my review of Airsoft assault

me and a few guys are going up there on November 29 to give it another shot.
hope to see you there
i think it's important to mention we went down during an event day. not just a normal play day.
We're heading down this sunday. so i can add an additional review on the open play days.
Edit: So we went on an open play day.
Open play day review:
I found the open play day to be largely identical to the event days. 2 major differences were less people and no national guard.
it was colder this time. The AO doesn't have heat. However the building is largely brick and i was roasting once play started.
Charging;stations were available. You simply have to hand them your battery.
Again minimal cheating. good sportsmanship. teamwork is somewhat lacking but that is normal. That's why im in a team.
I would suggest going to Airsoft assault if you're looking for fun. i'll be going back more and more. I wish i listened to my buds from pa sooner.

This sounds like a good CQB place, too bad its in Pittsburg, PA.
Wonder if we could list this as an event on AO??

To be honest it doesn't matter where it is. The airsoft community as a whole needs to be willing to support players and events across county and state lines. The guys who run and maintain Airsoft Assault are the same ones hosting When Hell Freezes Over, on Ohio soil, in February.

Correction, one of the members. Kurt/Angus is a member of Mil-Pro. He's also the owner of Amped Airsoft, and part owner of Airsoft Assault. Hes the driving force behind Airsoft Assault. Mil-Pro has no direct affiliation with Airsoft Assault.
However to back what Demon said, we should all try and make each others games. I think a lot of people forget that airsoft is bigger than their team, town, and state. I think it's about time for some regular unions from state to state, it would make the games better. Sorry to go off topic guys.
Reconteamanaconda has members from akron cleveland and youngstown. We also have good relationships with other teams in those areas. I know NEO has no problem associating with PA airsofters.

My mistake, I was under the impression they were all in on When Hell Freezes Over. Nonetheless, you will see RTA out at Airsoft Assault regularly.

Just thought i would keep those that are interested up to date
Airsoft Assault has recently announced that they have found a new location. This new location will house both Airsoft Assault, and Amped Airsoft, just like the current location does. Airsoft Assault is closing their current facility after the weekend of the 16th-19th, which means there is only two more weekends to play at the current site. After the 19th, Airsoft Assault will be closed for approximately a month to tear down the current building and rebuild the playfield at the new location.
Sorry about the lack of general information, i have no affiliation with AA beyond being friends with Angus and a few other members, which means no inside information. The details are being withheld until closer to the open date, so thats pretty much everything i know right now.
This is the thread about the moving on WPA (http://www.wpairsoft.com/forum/showthread.php?t=774&highlight=moving)

Feel free to post on wpa with any questions, or you can PM me and i can forward the question for you

yeah that place is awsome ive played there a few times , great if you want to play cqb
AA isn't far from my current location, but hopefully they are moving it somewhere a bit closer for us north-west of town. Be interesting to see where it goes...
good for them. they should really wire the place for video and more audio. having some flash bangs and biocarbs for sale wouldn't be bad either.

so as i watched the video it occured to me that this guy, at first, seemed to not know how to clear corners, but then i noticed that he is always holding his weapon the same way but just switching sides. so i would have to come to the conclusion that this guy can't shoot with his off hand.

7 members of S.T.A.T. headed out to Airsoft Assault today not knowing what to expect. We had heard a few different opinions from people we respect and trust. It took a little over 3 hours to get to Pittsburgh from Huron, OH, which is actually a bit shorter than the drive to Enon for us.
When we arrived there was only one other player there, and the place was a little late opening up. We had a chance to walk the building a bit before play started and instantly knew it was going to be a fun field to play at.
Once a few more players showed up we got the action going. We played several scenarios, starting with Team Deathmatch to get us acclimated to the layout. We continued with several other interesting scenarios that kept the action varied and frequent. Downtime between scenarios was only about 10-15 minutes, just enough time to reload, rehydrate, and rest briefly before heading out to play again. There were only about 7 other players there beside us, but we had fairly even teams and the amount of players related very well to the size of the field.
Today was the last day they will be open at their current location, which is unfortunate because I really liked this field a lot. However, we can look forward to a bigger and better field in the future.
Kurt was very friendly and helpful, and the refs were fair and kept everyone in line. Considering the age and apparent experience level of the other players present, everyone had a great attitude and played very honorably. There were no more issues with hit calling than there usually is anywhere else I've played. There were a few incidents of blatant blind firing, but the person involved stopped once something was said to him.
So, I just wanted to let everyone know we had a great day at Airsoft Assault. I want to thank Kurt, the staff, and everyone who we played with for making our 3+ hour drive worth it. I have quite a few painful welts, but such is the nature of airsoft CQB.
I do want to share a picture with everyone. This happened today as a result of a careless friendly fire incident. One BB was fired from a stock Classic Army M4 from a distance of about 10 feet. That one bb struck my nose, then traveled along the side of my nose and under the foam of my ESS Turbofans, striking me barely a centimeter under the right eye. It hurt like an SOB and I was initially terrified that I lost my eye. Within a few seconds I opened my eye and realized I could see the BB rolling around inside my goggles.
Just goes to show that even with expensive, full sealing eye protection there's always that one in a million shot that could get through somehow. Those of you who think shooting glasses are sufficient eye protection would likely be missing an eye right now, so keep that in mind. This was pretty scary and obviously a very close call. Hopefully it'll be the first and only time I experience something like this.
Play safe out there guys.
Ghost elite. That is a technique some people use to shoot around right hand corners. If he was holding a right and corner you might see him switch.
excellent post tony
