If I have the money and am willing to do some work to the airsoft, would a Classic Army Mp5 be worth the investment?
thanks,

My first AEG was an ICS MP5A4 Version 2. I loved that thing to death..loved it so hard that I broke the cocking handle off...lol. It was a great gun, no problems (besides the handle) whatsoever.

Airsoft Elite are like ICS, but with TM internals if I remember right. Outside TM, i just havent messed with Mp5's. CA i really stayed away from simply because they werent my thing and CA's history.
ICS ive heard is just about as good as TM, but simply not as popular. And when it comes to AE, like I said, AE, are ICS bodies with TM internals.

Ummm......TM internals don't shoot 397 fps (it's a version 3 gun) AH. I think if you'll look around, AE guns are pre-upgraded with reinforced gears, metal bushings, some type of spring, aluminum pistons, spring guide, etc. They AIN'T stock TM internals.

why does everybody stear clear of Classic Army?
the reviews that I read say that as long as you get the latest version, everything will be alright.
any comments?
I agree with ArmyHummer.
I bought a TM because I heard they were the most reliable. I got my gun shooting 380(m120 spring) for about 40 bucks. So the gun itself was about 350. Not sure on CA prices but to me that seemed the best way....

CA SD5- 250
TM SD5- 186
CA A4- 265
TM A4- 181
*(Prices are all withOUT battery and charger at WGC.com, UN companies were generally about 1-2 dollars cheaper)
I was thinking that since the classic army are all metal that they were a great investment esp. if you want realism.
Any counter thoughts?

As far as MP5s go, I'd buy a CA first, then a AirosftElite -> TM -> ICS.
Classic Army - I heard a lot of good things about CA MP5s, not many (in fact very little) bad things about them. Everyone who owns a CA MP5 loves them. The only bad thing I heard is that the motor is crappy, but it does the job. They are a bit costly, but still my first choice.
AirsoftElite AEGs - Although I heard a lot of good things about them, I heard a fair amount of negative issues with them. One of my airsoft retailer friend's ordered a batch of six AE v3 AEGs, he said 5 out of 6 broke within one week. Though problems ranged from small things like shimming/motor timing, one of them had a bad piston. So I would have to put the AE as my second choice.
TM - Well they're reliable, but they're too light to even work as paper weights. They have had their share of problems too. Most TM AEG problems are with the MP5 serious. Now, I'd have to say the TM MP5 is the number one newbie gun (aka 'first AEG'), so first mistakes are experienced on them. But if I was to buy an MP5, I'd only consider the TM MP5 because it is cheap and reliable for the most part.
ICS - Bad quality control. There are people who own an ICS and are happy with it, but they are not worth the risk in my opinion. I know a guy at my field who owns one, he paid over $440 in repairs on it...and the gun still breaks. Though I have heard that the motor is pretty good.
ArmyHummer,
AirsoftElite MP5s are not ICS with TM internals. They are ICS MP5s with AirsoftElite internals. They have an aluminium piston, stronger spring, metal bushings, steel gears, etc...
Also,
A lot of people buy an AirsoftElite AEG and think it is the same as the ICS. Cause if you go on their website (www.airsoftelite.com) you will see that the title is 'AirsoftElite/ICS'. But the ICS and the Airsoft Elite MP5s are not the same. I believe ICS has stopped production of their MP5s and is teamed up with AirsoftElite, hence 'Airsoft Elite/ ICS'. Though many retailer still sell ICS v2s.

It's a good review.

I've honestly seen the most problems with the TM guns, and the least with the ICS.
Granted, this may be due to the fact that TM MP5s are generally classified as "noob guns". However, I am willing to bet that just is not the whole case.
I honestly would NEVER buy a Marui MP5 (minus the RAS). As someone else said, they are just to light, even to work as paperweights.
ICS is the only MP5 I would even consider getting, since it comes with a metal body, and is shooting perfectly for CQB games (300-320). That, and I think the foregrip just feels better.
Regardless, tho, this is purely a matter of personal opinion. It is going to be very difficult to get just one answer here, as everyone is going to "play up" their own gun. Some people refuse to buy anything but Tokyo Marui (which I say is absurd, they just don't realize the other awesome stuff out there. Oh well, their loss). Some would die for their Classic Army, while others stand firm for ICS.
Either way, look into what YOU want from a gun, not what other people do. If you don't mind dropping a couple hundred more into the CA, it will take ANY TM MP5 out to pasture.
Good luck.

When you guys say 'ICS' do you mean 'AirsoftElite'? Or that infamous ICS MP5s that have the worest track record?
Why even consider an ICS gun when you can guy an Airsoft Elite, which I noticed is missing in the poll.
I still think CA MP5s is the better choice out of the three/four brands.

so are all the classic army aeg's upgraded to around 325fps?

No, not all CA aegs are at 320fps right now. Classic Army has changed the standard spring for their AEGs from the 170% spring to the 130% spring, however you will still find plenty of the 170% spring CA gun's on the market.
The upcoming CA MP5s will most likely house the same improved internals as the CA Armalites (polycarbonate piston/pistonhead, new hopup, new gears, new motor, new tappet plate, etc...).

Ranger,
I decided on the CA MP5 becuase of the metal body. The TM feels like a toy. If it breaks, it gives me an excuse to upgrade it, but I don't fire much.
