I want to paint the handgrip on my SP M203 to have more of a matte/metal look. It looks pretty plasticy. I assume the best way is
1. steel wool to rough up the surface
2. wipe with spirits to remove grease and dirt
3. Prime with spray primer - dry, sand, repeat
4. Spray with Matte Black spraypaint, dry, sand, repeat

I will post results, but has anyone done this? What is the best paint for different finishes? (Arnies has a nice project to get a shiney metal look)

I did that to mine, but not as comprehensively..
I just used a fine grit sandpaper, cleaned it all off really well with a light cloth, and then lightly sprayed 3-4 coats of Testor's flat black enamel on it. I don't have my M203 any longer, but the person that does plays on our team, and the pain has not flaked off, or otherwise started to look nasty.. I'm sure following your plan, the paint will last a loong time..

I wish I could post a picture, but my wife left my digital camera in a cab.
The M203 turned out perfect.
1. I sanded the whole surface with a fine drywall sanding sponge to get all the ridges.
2. I wiped the whole surface down with rubbing alchohol.
3. I sprayed several light coats of KRYLON CHARCOAL BLACK PRIMER

This is idiot proof paint. The whole project took less than 30 min.

Wait, she left it in a cab!!!
Ouch. Sorry, expensive mistake. Any chance in hell of getting it back?

Our entire camera bag with over a $1000 worth of gear. SOmehow I think it is gone for good. The 203 looks great though, and my wife can't ride me for wasting money on airsoft anymore...
