1- any and all TM stock guns produce relatively the same results when shot STOCK. the comparisions in FPS, and range are so close it is really more of an issue with barrel length (of which the famas is pretty long) and your own personal style.
2- if you are interested in upgrading, I have heard several times (but have no concrete experience myself) that the FAMAS is of an older design that has yet to really be improved upon since it began and will not upgrade with the same results as a more modern gun. IT WILL TAKE UPGRADES but the payoffs will not be as exponential as a more modern gearbox etc.
3- back to 1- ask yourself what YOU want out of a gun because if you keep it stock, it will within reason, perform the same as another stock TM gun. it will have a little more range than the TM mp5's but otherwise shoot relatively as fast and hard

if u do get a FAMAS, just dont hit the spring release system while shooting it :D anyway i know this guy who actually did upgrade tha FAMAS to 400fps so it isnt impossibly but very difficult!

yeah, but what about howsturdy is it, will it have anything that needs to be worked on, like the m-16 has barrel wobble? im sure the famas wont have barrel wobble though, because most of it is inside the gun., but is there anything that will fall off or break more easy on ot? like the trigger guard, it flips forward, should i be careful with that?

one of the most solid AEG's available IMO (next to the AUG and AK) Does the job well in stock. The thing is a bullet hose. It can be upgraded to around 400 fps at redwolfs. i havnt seen one fire around 350 though :(
The only thing that bugs some about the Fa-mas is it’s plasticy squeak. But I fixed mine by taking the grip off, placing some tape around square peg the grip slides over. Now mine is almost as quite as my AK. Mine has taken quite a beating and is still in great working order. As for upgrades, I’ve talked to as many upgraded fa-mas owner as I can find and most have had good results with m100 springs. I’m about to take the plunge and start a camo paint job. Scarry. as a side note the TM Scope mount is nice I have a Tasco red dot on mine and it looks good in my opinion.
I should have some time this saturday and was planing on a review for my (soon to be) web page.

i bought a FA-MAS as my first gun. its a good gun to start with but not worth upgrading. The only motors you can fit in them are EG-560s And EG-570s. Which basicly means if you put an M-100 or for that matter other than stock spring in the gun you fire rate will be extreamlly slow!
With mine I moded it for use as my CQC gun. Really thaty just means you cut the stock spring down about an inch and give youself a extreamlly fast rate of fire. That an the gearboxes are a pain in the butt to get back together on th FA-MAS.

Are there any problems with the famas? I've read every review I can get my grubby little hands on, and they all have good reviews, but I want to hear the bad points, because those are usually more useful to someone in the market than comments like "really good rifle! highly recommended."
For example, I know that they are tough to upgrade, tough to mount a sling to, and there are hardly any cosmetics for them due to their design, but I want to know about common internal problems, and if they are prone to be lemons.
(PS: I'm more interested in the Famas SV than the F1 version, due to the shorter outer barrel and the larger handguard, if that helps any.)

Ok i have had a famas for some time about 4 or 5 years the thing just wont quit iv dropped it fell on it tripped and threw it picked it up and used it .the famas is darn good ive put a psg1 barrel in mine painted it od green the only bad points i can say is that i here the selector switch comes off sometimes you can hit the mag release with your hand while holding it there for losing bbs or mag but again only heard these things never happened to me. wich one did you plan on getting sv or f1 i have the sv i think its does a good job seeing how iv put it through accidental hell:rolleyes: well thats all i got thanks for your time.
I have two Famas SVs, I purchased both of them used. They probably had at least a year of good use before I bought them. I've had them for almost two years now. They've been nothing but great. One of mine has begun to have a few problems with firing on semi, which seems like it could be the same anti-reversal latch problem discussed here: http://airsoftgear.com/techtalk.htm under the March Update.
I've taken one of them down in the past and I agree, the Famas gearbox can be a pain to work with. I use both of these as extra guns that I lend to people. So they don't get treated very well. They are extremely tough guns. Because of the high rate of fire, and the fact that newbies are always using them, two or three times the amount of bbs go through these guns than my own primary. They last a very long time. The only problem with it physically has been the flash hider falling off once in a while. But that was just on one of my guns. If you keep the screw tight it shouldn't be a problem.

I'm not real worried about cosmetic problems. Nothin a little tape, velcro, or rubber bands can't fix. :D
I was lookin at one cause of the size (I'm 5'3" and its one of the shorter rifles I've seen,) ROF, and the reliability. I tend to move very quickly and duck into cover fast, so I don't want an M4 with all the trinkets on it getting battered by my rough treatment. Also, the $220-260 price tag is a huge plus...

i have the SV and my teammate has the F1. with a PDI 130% spring and a 6.04mm barrel the F1 chrono's about 330fps (.25g bbs). it is a bb hose. if you run a 9.6v battery with the upgrades the r.o.f. still rocks. www.airsoftgear.com is a good site for info and upgrades for the famas.
